Just a gentle reminder that it's only 4 pay days away

...For most people.
This is for the folk who say it's only August , but at the same time are surprised to find that Christmas has just crept up on them.
Also, spare a thought for those poor January born children who will have a lifetime of not being celebrated as much as because people are always too disorganised skint on their birthdays .
No excuses 🫵 😠.

I have a January birthday and it’s absolutely shite. I don’t bother trying to organise anything now, I will just be let down.

My friend's birthday is 5 days before mine and we go out for a joint birthday meal. It's something to look forward to while enduring the Christmas crap and the build up to it.

I misread and thought I was getting paid in four days😭

😂😂

Mind you, my DH still gets paid weekly! 😲

I hope that never changes as it's been a lifesaver in the past.

Great, you have 4 times as long as the op to prepare.

It's one day and a roast dinner .
I am THRILLED that we are all heading to the Dolomites for Christmas and will avoid all the nonsense .

Lucky you. I hope you have a great time.

Arlanymor · 19/08/2025 18:57

But that was my point, I think most people have five paydays, not four!

I get paid on the 15th as do loads of people I know.

DongDingBell · 19/08/2025 19:00

5 days days for me, 4 pay days for DH.
So I make Christmas 9 pay days away 🤣🤣

RedNine · 19/08/2025 18:59

Why a gentle reminder? What's wrong with a normal one?

But then you have to wait a trillion years to be paid at the end of January if this is the case.
Like I said, most people.

January first isn’t a bad birthday - it’s always a holiday, and if you’re into partying you can just start early.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 19/08/2025 18:53

Super ready for September

The countdown begins 🎄🥰🎄❤️

Catsandcannedbeans · 19/08/2025 18:51

I buy through the year - which sounds super organised… but the week before I’m running round like a crazy person with DH showering the house for where we put it all. You can’t win.

I have just sent the DC a text asking what they want for Christmas. All of them have birthdays between now and then too! (Sept, Oct and Dec-which has always been a poor result in comparison by her dads side of the family)

I need ideas for mums advent stocking if anyone has any?! 24 little gifts, as cheap as possible! I have 2 alcohols miniatures so far, she is mid 70s, loves shopping but has everything she needs, wants and doesn’t want 😂

Consumables for your mum. Candles, really good chocolate, unusual sweets, lovely body scrub/cream.... things like that. Love stuff that I don't have to keep, but that will make the days after Christmas and New Year (you know, those slump days) a bit nicer.

And thanks for the reminder OP, I really need to get cracking (big family, lots of presents to buy!)

Needhelp101 · 19/08/2025 18:48

I strongly urge anyone struggling to only do 'childrens' presents'. My family brought this in a few years ago and it makes it incredibly simple and much cheaper.

January birthdays are shit. This is a fact.

Not as bad as Xmas birthdays my son wss born on Boxing day.

GoodGollyMissDolly · 19/08/2025 18:39

This is genuinely very helpful, thank you!!!

Arlanymor · 19/08/2025 18:30

Five paydays for most people I would have thought, because most people get paid earlier in December. So that’s only one payday short of being six months, which is a half a year. I feel better now!

But then you have to wait a trillion years to be paid at the end of January if this is the case.

Single person, No kids.

Christmas is dead easy:

  • teenage nieces and nephews get bank transfers
  • something for mum

finished.

I honestly don't buy for anyone else! All my friends have kids and we stopped Christmas gifts for each other long ago when the babies came along.

Edited to add: actually, I get the sister that hosts Christmas a nice candle or something. And I never turn up without bottles....hicccc
I'm the cool aunt who brings the cocktails 💁‍♀️

ilovesooty · 19/08/2025 18:32

dannyufcfan · 19/08/2025 18:30

I think you've got enough time between now and December

Exactly. How long can it take to do a bit of wrapping?
The few presents I buy go into gift bags. I hate wrapping.

ilovesooty · 19/08/2025 18:31

My family was used to shit birthdays. My mother, my father and I had January birthdays in the same week. My sister's is at the end of November.

LlynTegid · 19/08/2025 18:30

What you should be doing is asking for any leave you would like over Christmas, and if there is a discussion to be had about who is working when, do so. Don't leave it until December.
