AIBU- worried about rain on wedding day

We are getting married in Spain on 27th with our family ( my fiance is Spanish ) the weather this morning was showing sunshine purely and this afternoon 55% chance of rain. We wanted to get married outside and the inside option isn’t as nice and completely defeats the object of getting married abroad.

I feel really sad about it. I know it’s 10 days away and could change back as easily as it changed this morning… but I feel a bit deflated tbh

It rained on our wedding day. We've just celebrated our 24th anniversary.

MavisandHetty · 17/08/2025 13:30

You’re getting married in Spain, in August, and it’s rain you’re worried about? Aren’t you terrified of sweating through your dress and your guests feeling miserable in 30°+ heat?

RonnIeAl77 · 17/08/2025 12:52

It rained on my wedding day. They say that they rain makes the cords you tie on the day harder to break. We’ve been married 20 years and more in love than ever. Don’t stress about it- what will be will be. Good luck!

BIossomtoes · 17/08/2025 12:51

It rained on my wedding day. Then stopped halfway through the ceremony and a shaft of sunlight came through the church window. It was beautiful.

MrsDoylesTeaTray · 17/08/2025 12:49

Envisaging the perfect wedding = a miserable bride as some minor issue, go with the flow and your photos will be much better, genuine emotion - not forced permagrins!

Milly16 · 17/08/2025 12:48

Various showers on my wedding day. Didn't matter a bit and was still an incredible day

Rain on a wedding day is seen as a blessing.

Not quite but on the right lines, in the old days a couples wrists were tied together in a hand fasting ceremony. Rain makes the knot harder to undo.

I wouldn’t worry unless the venue is on the plain

This made me laugh!!

I’m sure I’ve read somewhere, or seen it on the telly, about burying a sausage at your outdoor wedding venue to prevent it raining on the day: it worked too.
Worth a try OP!

Tiktok nonsense

@MummaHud

There's no way, with the best will in the world, that the met office/Spanish equivalent, can predict that there is a 55% chance of rain in TEN days time. It's just a forecast, a prediction, a bit of an educated guess, but they are often wrong. Rain was predicted multiple times a few months ago, and it never materialised. Also, they've predicted temperatures of 27-28C 'in 10 days time' a few times, and it was 31-33C when it came to it.

YANBU to worry of course, but you can't alter the weather, no-one can. I am sure it will be fine, and won't rain on you! It is going to be late August after all. It will be lovely, I'm sure! All the best! 😘

If we didn’t want an external wedding, we would’ve booked England and got our Spanish family over to here.. not vice versa. When you have a wedding, you have a vision and a location dream… your sarcastic comments don’t take away from the fact that it’s ok to have a ‘perfect wedding’ vision and our wedding we wanted it to be outside.

You're setting yourself up to fail having a "perfect wedding vision"
As then if it does something like have the cheek to rain or your shoes are too tight the whole day's ruined
Unclench a little and focus on the wedding bit, you know the important bit

ridl14 · 17/08/2025 12:39

I get you, I was very worried about our rain plan. It ended up raining in the morning and not at all from midday (we had two ceremonies in the same month and it was true of both!). We actually ended up preferring our rain option for the bigger one.

If it helps, I've just been reading about how there's a major drought across the UK and Europe so you could be fine. And honestly on the day, you just won't care

JifNtGif · 17/08/2025 12:38

Looking at the forecast looks like it will be pissing down. You need to make alternative arrangements even if it's at the very least getting large umbrellas for all the guests and waterproof makeup for you.

Liliwen · 17/08/2025 12:33

I got married abroad and had a similar forecast. There was a tiny bit of rain before my ceremony but for my ceremony in the afternoon the sky was full of white clouds with a bit of sun peeking through. At first I was a little bit disappointed there wasn’t clear blue skies but my photographer said the clouds help create a softer light and create more flattering photos. Not sure if he said this to make me feel better or not but the photos really are beautiful!

Dozer · 17/08/2025 12:32

Too soon for weather forecasts to be accurate.

You made your choice of venue knowing the pros/cons of all your options. You knew there was no guarantee of weather conditions being ideal (heat, rain etc) and made your choice. Perhaps you’re experiencing some wedding nerves and buyer’s regret.

Wanting it to be perfect is likely to be unhelpful for you.

Myfridgeiscool · 17/08/2025 12:27

I’ve just googled it. You need to bury the sausage the day before the wedding.
(not a euphemism lol)

LemograssLollipop · 17/08/2025 12:26

I'd have thought you've enough to worry about already! The rain is one of the few things you can't control.

Focus your energy into buying some umbrellas for the day... Either transparent or matching your colour theme. Think of interesting photo compositions including umbrellas.

Hope you have a lovely wedding day!

Myfridgeiscool · 17/08/2025 12:25

Rained on our wedding day in January in Australia....... We had to move the ceremony from a beautiful waterfront garden to inside a restaurant. It was fine - we had a fantastic day, rain stopped just long enough for pics outside with a very gloomy, grey sky. It really didn't spoil anything.

IMissSparkling · 17/08/2025 12:22

"External wedding" 😂😂
OK Baby Kangaroo Tribbiani.

Teaandchocolate2222 · 17/08/2025 12:22

Is it possible that you are just feeling nervous and your thoughts have focussed on this as an outlet for your worries? It’s very unlikely to be raining all day, maybe the odd shower but I’m sure all will be fine.

theunbreakablecleopatrajones · 17/08/2025 12:21

I think when you’re planning a big wedding it takes over your thoughts, which is what is happening here.

No one wants it to rain on their wedding day. Chances are it won’t. If it does it does, you’ll come inside and still have a good time.

This is one of those situations where you need to have a word with yourself, and focus on something else.

2thumbs · 17/08/2025 12:20

I wouldn’t worry unless the venue is on the plain

MissMarplesGoddaughter · 17/08/2025 12:18

It rained on my wedding day which was 50 years ago and it was fine. Congratulations and wishing you lots of luck 🍀 and happiness for the future.
