Neighbour kids climbing in my garden

Neighbour boys on the back play football against my fence all day long which is annoying but my problem is they climb over into my garden to collect them. I have never kept their balls as I throw them over if I see them on the garden so I don't understand why they keep coming over for the balls. I have caught them I don’t know how many times on my garden and asked them politely to not come on to my garden. The mother is well aware of what they are doing so going to speaking to her I feel isnt going to get me anywhere. As I am writing this I have had to ask them again to not come on to my garden . I have also ask if they could play facing the other way with I have just heard the kids slating me for it. I’m not sure where to go from here. I feel disrespected and feel like I have no privacy and I don’t want to go on my garden as I’m just waiting for balls to come flying over and can’t relax. The kids are polite and do apologies but they are back over the next day. What should I do about it?

Loose your shit woman! Go round get hold of the mother tell her if it happens again you are coming for her... be mean be nasty use language like a navvy and show her up. You have to make them more frightened of you than they are. I appreciate it is not lady like behaviour but used rarely and effectively it works..well ,it has for me!

Zanatdy · 19/08/2025 07:57

Just because the mother is aware they do it doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go round and ask her to stop them doing it.

caffelattetogo · 19/08/2025 07:52

Another vote for anti-climb paint or grease on the fence.

Hurryuphumphreygeorgeiswaiting · 19/08/2025 07:27

You are being disrespected OP. You can tell them until you are blue in the face not to go into your garden but they will keep doing it because of their mother's attitude. To say, " dont know why she throws the ef*ing balls back to her kids" is the problem. If you went round and spoke to her, then i feel you will get a mouthful from her. It is just the attitude of they can do what they like.
I would put netting around where the balls are coming over your fence or could you put in some higher fencing. Than again, you shouldnt have to especially when you are being neighbourly and throwing the footballs back.

I have two boys and they play football in the garden all the time. We have lovely neighbours and when the footballs fly over my boys will wait until they get throw back over into our garden. They wouldnt dream of going next door. Same with neighbours, as there dc's have balls come over and we throw them back. It is called respect and your neighbours haven't any and are entitled. Good luck.

pollymere · 18/08/2025 19:43

It's mean but effective — start collecting all the balls then donate them to charity. Or just keep them for a few months before returning them.

Say you'll start throwing balls back when they learn to stop coming in your garden.

We found older children were using younger ones to climb over the fence against their will. Mother didn't care. The kids did when they didn't have footballs anymore.

TesChique · 18/08/2025 18:23

Spikes on the fence.
Big dog.
Camera and police involvement

Id also when throwing back fucking lob them back at her house preferably hitting their windows

I did this and it hir their bins sending them rushing out panicking woth the noise. Followed it with more thrown at equally full force

Inconsiderate bitch

Campingisnexttogodliness · 18/08/2025 17:19

My tried and tested method is to let the balls down before throwing them back over.. . When their dps have to keep pumping them up and impacting THEIR lives the dc will be more careful.

Beaverbridge · 18/08/2025 16:30

Another vote for anti vandal paint on the fence along with jaggy bushes along side.

Woman donated balls to charity when they kept coming over and 2 hit her in the face. She spoke to the club and asked for an apology. They didn’t apologise so she donated them.

It was reported to police as theft and she has been ordered to pay £26 to replace them.

She says she has been told by police she will be interviewed and the matter could end up in court if she does not cough up.

That's outrageous!!

What on earth does “absorbed car, nice” mean? I’m assuming this is autocorrect but can’t for the life of me work out what you intended to say!

abandoned car and noise :-)

My dog has destroyed 2 balls that have landed in my garden because the neighbours kids kept kicking them over the fence .
Quite a few landed and I had to throw them over , eventually my dog got 2 of them and popped them 🤣
One of my friends said “ oh that is a shame your dog ruined the ball , you ought to replace it “
Me “ No way am I replacing their balls “

SandrenaIsMyBloodType · 17/08/2025 20:50

If you Google “defensive planting” there are lots of websites suggesting fast-growing spiky plants specifically to deter people from climbing over boundaries. There is even a page on this on West Yorkshire Police website. It is certainly not illegal

BooBooDoodle · 17/08/2025 20:33

Buy a couple of well established holly bushes. That will stop them. Any balls that come over, throw them in the bin. Had issues myself with balls coming into my garden. My plants were trashed and my back door hinges snapped due to them forcing a bolted door and climbing over it. Had it on camera and knew the kids and their mother. Presented mother with the video and she denied they were her kids. Her kids have numerous logs in with the police so I added another one and they got a police visit. Haven’t had them terrorising my end of the street since.

The other thing I'd be tempted to do is lob them back so hard that you break things in her garden, but that would probably be unwise 😂.

Alternatively, have you thought about chucking a few balls into her garden, and then climbing over to retrieve them?

I have 🫣 god knows what it hit but it went with a loud bang but that only lets the boys know I’ve chucked it back and then come straight out to play with it 😔 I’ve even tried gently putting the ball down but they must have a sixth sense 😅

Is it your fence? If it is, put anti climb paint on it.

We reported three things online, not harassment but absorbed car, nice and something else and they knocked on the door stating this was policy.

Burglar grease.

Nearly50omg · 17/08/2025 14:43

I’d stab the balls with a pair of gardening shears and then throw them back over and tell them if they keep coming back over the same will happen to the next lot

Inform their mother that you're going to be painting your fence, so could she tell the boys not to climb on it as they'll ruin their clothes.

Then put a patch of wet paint/varnish precisely where they climb over every day for the rest of the holidays. You can always sand it down when they're back at school!

littleHollow · 17/08/2025 12:50

Thanks for everyone’s replies I appreciate it ❤️❤️ I have thought about putting up a trellis but I feel it would just get broken and it would be something else to wind me up. I’m going to have a look at a net possibly if it doesn’t stop the balls it may stop them from climbing over. I’m also thinking about talking to the mother but I can’t see it ending well with how she goes off.

The Romans used big trenches full of wooden spikes - might be an idea 😀👍

The OP would like to keep owning her house but that would solve the garden problem when she ended up handing over her keys to its new child owners🙃

DaisyChain505 · 17/08/2025 10:18

Spikes/approved deterrents on the fence. Simple.

Go round and let them know you’ve done it so there’s no surprises/accidents.

If she asks why you’ve done it just say that seeing how easy her children can get into your garden has made you rethink your security set up.

Trespass is a civil offence, pal.

The mother is aware that they climb over. I over heard her last weekend when I was throwing them back over saying “I don’t know why she effing throws them back” to which I replied with “because if not your kids are in my garden” and she didn’t say anything. They climb over if she’s in garden. I don’t really want to have issues with them but I’m on edge at home just waiting for it to happen.

Stab the balls with a kitchen knife and throw them back.
