To think that the USA is a dictatorship now?

Trump appears to have ultimate power. Who can challenge him? Who controls him? Presidents should not be dictating what drug companies charge for medicines on a whim, or indeed any other goods, at the drop of a hat. He says jump and the US says "How High?" What on earth have you done to yourselves and the world to let this evil, thick, orange toddler clown represent you? What the hell were you thinking?

Anyone who is legal has no issues and ICE is not picking people off the streets despite what Reddit tells you. Their raids are targeted similar to how the Home Office target and deport illegal immigrants even through I don’t see any outrage.

This is a video released by the UK Home Office recently showing the arrest of illegal immigrants, I guess people of colour are scared to go out in the UK now.

Yes I repeat it’s bullshit lies claiming immigrants are scared to go out except in liberal cities in California where they encourage illegal immigrants with their sanctuary city policies.

Haven't read the full thread, so don't know if the DC situation has been brought up.

When His Tangeriness invoked federal law and brought in the NG on the streets of the Capitol, I started a thread to ask what citizens on the ground felt / how they were being impacted, and it tanked with tumbleweed.....

Have been listening to various commentators, and seen some interesting stuff about his plans to tidy up the homeless using existing but old laws, which include institutionalising people for "vagrancy".

And he's talking about extending these powers / actions to other states.

I'm extremely surprised how sanguine everybody seems to be about these things.

I would really like to hear perspectives from MNetters living in DC.

We have our own homeless - what’s the solution?

Sausagenbacon · 16/08/2025 07:36

You’ve ignored everything that anyone, including myself, has said to you if you can’t froth at it. Anything balanced or factual that anyone has responded to you you have absolutely ignored.

BINGO! 'frothing'.

And, whether you agree with vaseofviolets or not, I challenge any poster to find a post that displays that.

Sausagenbacon · 16/08/2025 07:27

I also read a report that said a third of rapes are committed by migrants in the U.K. that means two-thirds are committed by non-migrants. I hope that helps

Has it occured to you to consider what proportion of the uk population are migrants?.

Straycats · 16/08/2025 06:54

Oh dear your one of those OP, who barely reads beyond MSM.
Whilst here in the UK, we’ve got Starmer and Khan, complete open boarders, a dying NHS and record numbers being arrested for thought crime-oh god yes we live in such a great country, not!

YelloDaisy · 16/08/2025 06:29

I’d give him a ⭐️ for stopping immigration whereas our lot seem to be making it easier for immigrants to get in

15% of all sexual offences (including rape) were accounted for by foreign nationals in the most recent figures. Romanians had the most convictions, then Poles, Indians and Pakistanis.

I can't find the exact figure but I believe asylum seekers account for between 1-2% of all sexual offences.

I’m an American living in the US.

Clearly most posters here have no idea wgat they are talking about. They’ve hr er lived here and never will. Do you think we even care what you think? Until you’re paying taxes here, it doesn’t matter.

But things are not so great in the UK either. Protest groups being classed as illegal. People being locked up for a casual tweet (that was subsequently removed). You can’t even choose what your own children take to school to eat at lunch time.

Until you’re paying taxes here, it doesn’t matter.
And yet people voted Trump.

My “favorite” free speech incident in the UK was the teenage girl who was arrested for saying a police officer looked like her “lesbian nana.” That’s like something out of a dystopian novel.

If the US was a dictatorship, you wouldn’t be seeing loud, widespread opposition to Trump all over the nation. Do people think North Koreans are allowed to do that about Kim Jong Un? Do they think people in Nazi Germany were allowed to do that about Hitler?

Edited

That's not exactly the case. The girl was picked up by the police for Drunk & Disorderly and taken back home, where she became combative and verbally abusive.

One of the officers did arrest her for using a homophobic slur (they were obviously looking for a reason to nick her by that point), but she was released shortly after and nothing came of it. The officer was investigated, and their behavior was addressed.

Not really a 'free speech incident', despite what some would like people to think.

Here is Trump Tower in Chicago, beautiful building and I’ve enjoyed a few drinks at the roof top bar.

Can you explain how the money he used to build it can be traced back to Russia?

The Chicago Trump Tower was financed by a loan from Deutsch Bank, and three private hedge funds. One was backed by George Soros, I can't remember who the other two were, but likely not Russian.

NCReceptor · 16/08/2025 03:12

One of those dreadful democratic dictatorships that elects their leaders.

Does it matter? Your insistence that he is a dictator and his wealth comes from Russia is weirdly strong. All because weight loss medicine will increase in price in the UK 😂

So your proof is he sued Russian banks to finance some projects therefore Russia gave him his wealth and installed him as president 😂

What on earth are you talking about? I've made no such claims.

I pointed out that he has been financially linked/dependent on Russian money/government for 40+ years.

AspiringChatBot · 16/08/2025 02:33

Trump appears to have ultimate power. He has a lot of power, but not more than US presidents before him (besides Biden) EXCEPT that he is now exempt from prosecution just because he is President.

Who can challenge him? Congress, state legislatures, the courts at all levels, the people, the international community, any critics.

Who controls him? No one who knows will say.

I'm less angry at the people that elected him on the ground and more angry at the people who can and should challenge him and do not.

A young man I know was recently turned away and had his visa cancelled due to anti-Israel/semitic posts on his Instagram. I'm not unhappy if virulent antisemites are turned away; we have plenty and don't need more. I wouldn't give Trump credit for this though, it goes back decades.

Velmy · 16/08/2025 02:21

He's been financially backed by Russia for years. After all his bankruptcies in the 90s, he rebuilt the empire with money from Russia. Took out massive loans when he couldn't secure finance in the US.

But he was taking Russian investment as far back as the 80s, none of this is secret. And as we know, Russian money does not move without the government saying so.

Couple of direct quotes from Jr on the Trump business...

"Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets, say, in Dubai, and certainly with our project in SoHo and anywhere in New York. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia."

"We don't rely on American banks [...] We have all the funding we need out of Russia"

I was told a few days ago by someone who was travelling to Washington soon that they check your phone as you enter the country to see if you have any anti- Trump stuff on your social media. If you do they can and will refuse entry. So they are going to set themselves up with a completely blank phone. I was 😮
Do you believe everything people tell you? Do you honestly think immigration have time to do this?

They absolutely do. A young man I know was recently turned away and had his visa cancelled due to anti-Israel/semitic posts on his Instagram. He's a sportsman and it's basically tanked his career.

Carry on drawing your tentative conclusions. I find it odd that you care so much what one faceless stranger thinks. But anti-immigrant scaremongering propaganda is an amusing accusation, considering I’m an immigrant myself, and have been at several points in my life. It’s useful to have an outsider’s perspective on the UK. Brits spend an awful lot of time worrying about other people’s concerns instead of their own. It’s a shame; it was a great country, once.

Still the evasion. Since you said I can conclude all I like, I will. I assume that means you won't take offence.

Most likely the evasion means you do support Trump but don't have the stones to admit it because then you would indeed be revealed as a hypocrite. You won't answer the question about rape across cultures and nations because you know you posted a false statement about it, but you don't have the integrity to admit it and retract it.

You accused immigrants of being rapists right there in black and white. Have you forgotten you said that? It's easy to suss out what kind of immigrants you meant and that you are not of the same race as the alleged rapist immigrants, so your purported status as an immigrant is irrelevant. It's akin to the "some of my best friends are ___(insert race)" defence.

You seem to generalize about British people too, also with nothing to back it up. It's a flood of opinions with a drought of reasoning and facts behind them.

I have no idea what the Russia Gate hoax is. I assume it's a hoax that sucked American folks in? I don't bother much with internet hoaxes.

I do know about Trump's reliance on Russian money, his self confessed repeat sex offences, his close friendships with paedophile, sex traffickers, Russian oligarchs and Putin.

I also know that Russia handsomely funded pro Trump Americans.

Maybe that's why you voted for him?

Here is Trump Tower in Chicago, beautiful building and I’ve enjoyed a few drinks at the roof top bar.

I am American, living in US, and I am horrified daily by ICE beating up people and sending them to Alligator Alcatraz and other detention camps, the attacks on Universities and anyone who tries to stand up for Palestinians, having military forces in Los Angeles and in Washington, D.C., and the list goes on and on. Yes, Trump is trying to be a dictator, and the courts are largely allowing him to do it. If I could figure out how to move somewhere else, I would do it.

SpryUmberZebra · 16/08/2025 01:58
