Comment to air hostess

Just arrived on holiday and I need the wise opinions of the Mumsnet community to help me decide if I’m being super unreasonable or if I’m right to feel pissed off.

On the plane off on holiday with my DH and DD9. Half way into the journey and the air hostess (think blonde, slim, attractive) comes down the aisle selling scratch cards, Prize being another holiday. She gets to our row and DH asks for x5 tickets and cheekily says “if I win, do you come too?” to the lady selling. I’m mortified and give her an apologetic look. She gives me a somewhat sympathetic look and I’m just feeling like the biggest dickhead.

I can’t bring myself to speak to my DH out of disgust and he laughs it off and makes me feel like I’m creating a drama for no reason. Feel so upset that he would humiliate me in front of my face.

Honest opinions please. Should I have laughed along or would you be fuming? Thank you!

Honestly men! What is wrong with them? Sorry but not sure why I found this so funny 😂

I take it you’re being sarcastic?

Backfromthebrink · 13/08/2025 22:16

Cheering up reading some of these comments. Sometimes you just need to hear some solidarity. Thank you all.

I would not be happy if my partner flirted with a woman right in front of me

TenderChicken · 13/08/2025 22:12

I can't believe he thinks it's OK to say that to someone trying to do her job, but ALSO WHILE HIS WIFE IS SITTING NEXT TO HIM.

Makes me believe he thinks/says shit like this all the time and it just rolled out.

Console yourself with thoughts of the lady regaling her colleagues with this tale and them all cringing with second hand embarrassment on her behalf.

Trust me they wouldn’t waste their breath ‘regaling’ anything. It’ll be the millionth time they heard some misogynist comment from some grubby smartarse who isn’t worth a millisecond of headspace.

I have family that are cabin crew. They regard men like your husband as detestable slime.

And probably consider themselves lucky that someone else is stuck with him.

fixed it for you.

The 1950s called for him. He's so ridiculous.

huuskymam · 13/08/2025 22:10

Why would you laugh? She's not there to put up with a creeps attempt at a joke.

Bluesclues1 · 13/08/2025 22:09

Sadly for the member of crew, this bullshit misogyny happens on a daily basis on flights. Fucking grim.

goudacheese · 13/08/2025 22:07

I interpret him to mean she would be the flight attendant if he won the prize. I would put it down to high spirits going on holiday.

Marylou2 · 13/08/2025 22:05

He's a twat. Don't let him spoil your holiday.

SereneCoralDog · 13/08/2025 22:05

OtterlyMad · 13/08/2025 21:50

I would embarrass him by pretending to feel sorry for him - be sure to tell all your family and friends how he attempted to flirt with the cabin crew and how she gave you a pitying look! Then pat him on the head and say “bless him”.

Why though? Why play act being unbothered and amused? I can't think of anything more cringy than doing fake tinkly-laughs whilst telling even more people what a knob dh was AND pretending not to care.

I wouldn't do anything of the sort. I'd tell him he acted like a mysogynistic and disrespectful prick, that his behaviour was mortifying and slimy and that the stewardess gave me a sympathetic look she was so disgusted. That I was mortified and upset and aghast that he didn't seem to care.

I'd expect some kind of reflection and apology and if none was forthcoming i'd be considering the relationship carefully.

Who says ‘air hostess’ these days? I think you’re both from the 1970s.
Anyway, he needs to be more of a grown up.

@fluffiphlox Constructive!

@Backfromthebrink you control your response to this. Your feelings are entirely valid. If you can, park it and enjoy the holiday. Your DH is a misogynistic bellend

Reddog1 · 13/08/2025 22:04

Cringey and naff, and embarrassing for your child too. Hopefully it was just an aberration though rather than a pattern of sleaze.

How disrespectful of him. Sorry op that was out of order

legalseagull · 13/08/2025 22:01

If he’s comfortable saying that in front of you what sexist drivel is he spouting when you’re not around?

wizzywig · 13/08/2025 22:00

Or you could end it with "and then he said do you come to? And I thought I've never come with him, so what chance would she?"

Purpleturtle45 · 13/08/2025 21:59

You have no reason to be humiliated, it's him that should be feeling that way. He was lucky the air hostess didn't take it further, that's the kind of comment that gets people in hot water nowadays. What a shit way for your holiday to start!

OlympicProcrastinator · 13/08/2025 21:58

I would actually consider divorcing my husband over this. If he wants to flirt with an air hostess he can fuck off and be with one then.

I appreciate most mumsnetters would think I’m a lunatic but I posted so you know you are not alone feeling hurt and tearful.
