Comment to air hostess

Just arrived on holiday and I need the wise opinions of the Mumsnet community to help me decide if I’m being super unreasonable or if I’m right to feel pissed off.

On the plane off on holiday with my DH and DD9. Half way into the journey and the air hostess (think blonde, slim, attractive) comes down the aisle selling scratch cards, Prize being another holiday. She gets to our row and DH asks for x5 tickets and cheekily says “if I win, do you come too?” to the lady selling. I’m mortified and give her an apologetic look. She gives me a somewhat sympathetic look and I’m just feeling like the biggest dickhead.

I can’t bring myself to speak to my DH out of disgust and he laughs it off and makes me feel like I’m creating a drama for no reason. Feel so upset that he would humiliate me in front of my face.

Honest opinions please. Should I have laughed along or would you be fuming? Thank you!

Who says ‘air hostess’ these days? I think you’re both from the 1970s.
Anyway, he needs to be more of a grown up.

Ok smart arse, what do you call the female person who looks after you on a flight

CotswoldSleuth · 13/08/2025 23:01

Get a grip and enjoy your holiday.

Unless you have trust issues with your DH, this shouldn’t be an issue you’re posting about.

It was just a silly old fashioned throwaway remark, I say similar things,it's called humour, something a lot of people don't understand.

Humour? Does it not have to be funny to count as humour. Otherwise it's just a dickhead being misogynistic to a woman who is trying to do her job.

TheBeesTrees · 13/08/2025 22:59

Urgh, does he realise that not only was he being disrespectful to you, he made himself look like a complete slimebag that no woman in their right mind would touch with a bargepole

dapsnotplimsolls · 13/08/2025 22:59

She probably gets similar comments on every single flight. This doesn't make it ok. I suggest you take a deep breath, play happy families until DD is asleep then ask him how he thinks that comment made you feel.

Sleazeball... dont let him spoil your holiday relax have a lovely time get a bronzy and have a little flirt with the waiters.
Put him back in his sleaze box.

Edited

Is it ok for women to be sleazeballs too then?

Double standards surely.

It’s only humour if people find it funny. Who do you think, out of the parties involved, found this particular comment funny? I doubt the recipient of the comment did.

If he’s comfortable saying that in front of you what sexist drivel is he spouting when you’re not around?

This exactly.

nopineapplepizza · 13/08/2025 22:54

Yuck. Just, yuck. What a grim man you’re married to.

Air hostess?

Yes air hostess, air stewardess, cabin crew, trolley dolly - you know what OP means.

Crew here too - this kind of thing would happen all the time. He's been so disrespectful and acted like a massive fucking twat. He needs to apologise, but more than that he has to understand what he's done wrong and why you're upset about it.

Don't let this ruin your holiday. Chin up and be strong 💪

Well, maybe you shouldn't. If other people don't understand your 'humour', maybe you're the problem.

pizzaHeart · 13/08/2025 22:50

YANBU I would be upset too. It’s really unpleasant to think that your partner, father of your child is misogynistic twat.
I would want to have a conversation about it later when DD is in bed as I would struggle to play happy families after this incident. Hope this thread will help you with arguments.
Please don’t cry, you’ll look stronger without tears.

Ageism is just as ugly as sexism.

Tiredofallthis101 · 13/08/2025 22:49

I think I would probably give am incredulous look and have said - shame they won't take you away if we win, or even if we lose!

YANBU to be annoyed.

You say creepy, pervy things too? Ew.

I couldn’t be with a bloke like that OP.

tellmesomethingtrue · 13/08/2025 22:44

It’s cabin crew.
yes he was disrespectful. Would he have said that to a male cabin crew member?

Charlize43 · 13/08/2025 22:43

wizzywig · 13/08/2025 22:00

Or you could end it with "and then he said do you come to? And I thought I've never come with him, so what chance would she?"

😂

TitaniasAss · 13/08/2025 22:41

Well I wouldn't cry about it, but I would absolutely tell him he's a creepy wanker for behaving like that. What a massive dickhead.

Franjipanl8r · 13/08/2025 22:40

Ask him to make an announcement in front of everyone on the plane on the way back and say he’s sorry if anyone witnessed his misogynist behaviour on the flight over and that he’s sorry for bringing shame on himself, his family and men in general. (Only half joking).

surreygirl1987 · 13/08/2025 22:40

Urgh. I'd be embarrassed on his behalf. That's definitely misogynistic. He's the one who humiliated himself OP - please don't feel that way yourself.

Jollyhockeystickss · 13/08/2025 22:39

If he says that infront of you what does he say to women when hes not with you,

Booboobagins · 13/08/2025 22:39

@Backfromthebrink your DH is an AH. How would he feel if you chatted up some gorgeous man? Like sh1t no doubt. If he isnt normally an AH talk to him. If he is normally an AH, take advice on divorce. You dont deserve to be treated like that and he doesn't deserve you.
