Why are so many women beholdent to a male

I give up. I was brought up to be independent. I got pregnant at 16 ir was not I’m dead! I had the kid (she's now a Dr) I was a board director in a FTSE 100 at 32. I worked hard. Why are there so many posts on Mumsnet by women who can't take responsibility?

I met dh when we were both in college. We were a team, you’d possibly call it beholden while his friends would call him whipped. Neither’s right really but we have both learned to be our own people in the last few years, we were too reliant on each other and when we hit the rocks we really hit them hard.

Why are you so keen to lay the blame with women? Ask yourself that.

Women aren’t blameless for the way their lives turn out. In many cases they are responsible for the choices they make. Choosing to procreate with men who already treat them like shit, choosing to have more children when the father already does fuck all and is a shit dad to the existing kid(s), choosing to remain financially illiterate, choosing to stay with a man who treats them like shit and cheats on them rather than be single, and so on. All of these are due to women making stupid choices. Not all women are victims without agency. Stop telling them they are. Women HAVE to start making better choices and taking responsibility for themselves. Stop tolerating and putting up with shit men. And women should help women more - this site can be good for that. Advise and support each other, lift each other up.

gosh… only a board director 🥱

You’d probably get a better discussion if your post was less goady op

And I’d expect something more coherent from a “board director.”

Mollydoggerson · 12/10/2025 10:41

Did you have caring duties to other family members?

We're you parentified?

Did you work in an industry or organisation that took gender pay equality seriously, were you the poster girl fir that cause? The token female put on the pedestal?

Were you and your daughter supported by wider family, did your parents, parent and house your daughter?

Oh I adore these threads. These responses are the best. Thanks for giving me the laughs this morning that I didn't think I needed.

Gallowayan · 12/10/2025 10:34

Cut the crap.

snoopymug · 12/10/2025 10:34

???

Enigma54 · 12/10/2025 10:33

Your post is muddled! What’s your point? 🧐

Okthenguys · 12/10/2025 10:20

I’ve never met a board director with such poor grammar and punctuation. But, I guess well done for being so awesome?

TeaRoseTallulah · 12/10/2025 10:17

Of course you did,love 🙄🙄🙄

nomas · 12/10/2025 10:13

Would you like a collective round of applause? 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It always surprises me how educated people can be very narrow minded.

Agree !
Live in their own bubble and have no idea about others lives . If it didn’t happen to them , they have no understanding or any empathy whatsoever.

autienotnaughty · 12/08/2025 18:27

Because contrary to popular belief we don’t all have the same 24 hours

VividGreen · 12/08/2025 18:24

TerryPratchett, I responded and then realised the intention . Do you need to respond to a response or want to cause further conflict.

TY78910 · 12/08/2025 18:18

OP, do tell me the rest of your background. Having a baby at 16 isn’t exactly a ball and chain if you also have a trust fund.

Whoever this person is has achieved their goal by getting so many responses, stop responding to shut the thread down.

You know you have responded twice, right? 😁

You are remarkably ineloquent for a FTSE 100 board director.

Lol and as if such an empowered and positive person would feel like this in the first instance towards other women 🙄

EvenMoreCrisps · 12/08/2025 16:30

You wrote on another thread that you had your only kid in your twenties?

What are you giving up with? I don't understand your post, but that could easily be a me-problem.

SomeAlternatives · 12/08/2025 16:25

Gosh, the SPAG of those FTSE 100 directors has really gone downhill. Aren't there any spellchecks under bridges these days?

VintageDiamondGirl · 12/08/2025 16:20

A Board Director who can't spell 'beholden'.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 12/08/2025 16:15

Why, it's because you're just so much better than them in every way, of course.

VividGreen · 12/08/2025 16:14

Is this a man posting maybe? Or just a misogynist, not saying just men think this way so pls don't take this question as such, but have experienced this kind of remark from men before.

Is it because I am old, or does it seem that the grammar, spelling and overall wording doesn't come across as someone who was a Director of a FTSE company?

But I am happy to be told my pedantry is hanging out, and put it away.
