to think my colleague should just admit she is on weight loss injections?

At work we have all noticed Sally has lost a lot of weight in the past few months. She is always talking about diets and what she eats and does not eat anymore and makes a big deal about avoiding the biscuit tin in the kitchen. She keeps saying it is just willpower and cutting out snacks.

Last week I walked past her desk, her bag was open, and there was one of those weight loss injection pens in plain sight.

Now I cannot unsee it and every time she goes on about her self control it feels performative.

I am not saying she has to announce it to the whole office, but when she is preaching about anyone can do it if they just try it feels a bit dishonest.

AIBU to think she should either be upfront or just stop making a song and dance about how she has done it all naturally?

Leave her alone. I don’t use the jabs personally but she’s not doing you any harm 🤷‍♀️

She is doing me harm as I and everybody else gets told off for having snacks (while she has them herself).

You're very defensive, OP. I think you know on some level, you're wrong here.

No, it makes her sound understandably annoyed/fed up at the hypocritical colleague.

Well you read it the way you read it, and I will read it the way that I do. Although from the thread, more people are seeing what I see.

Is it normal to bring up dieting, food and exercise 5 days a week several times a day?

Maybe that is normal to you. It is not to me. I don't want to be told I should not be having a snack. Again this is normal for you?

She's being a dieting bore and policing what people eat, that's not OK regardless of methods. But that's a different issue than whether she needs to 'admit' anything about her own weight loss. WLI aren't a replacement for healthy eating and exercise, the weight doesn't fall off by magic. Yes they blunt the appetite, but that's not a guarantee of weight loss. And they're not as effective without exercise or long-term dietary change. She shouldn't be preaching, but she doesn't owe anyone personal details about her weight loss methods.

Indeed, and that is the bit that makes her sound judgmental and mean.

Why wouldn’t she? It’s the fact that she’s commenting as well as doing what she’s telling OP not to do that’s also annoying for OP.

All OP has to say to her coworker is please dont comment on what I am eating, I dont appreciate it. But if that was the point of the OP she would not have mentioned all the other stuff.

I agree with you OP. So many people missing the point just so they can stick the boot in you (typical MN).

She sounds like a right hypocritical nightmare and it doesn’t sound like you’re judging her or have an issue with her weight loss per se - just her going on and on and on about it and then judging you for doing something she also does (the snacks). I’d have to tell her to shut the fuck up about anything food/weight wise - there’s nothing more tedious.

If you want to lose weight, go on it yourself and stop moaning about the (imaginary) woman on here.

usersame · 11/08/2025 21:23

You are making this whole thing up OP. Nobody carries a MJ injection around in their handbag. There is no need. It stays in the fridge. You inject with it once a week. As if she is going to do that in the office! She would do it at home. Plus it wouidnt just be the pen in its own because it comes in a bag with needles and antibacterial wipes and people just keep it in the bag or box IN THE FRIDGE.

I would be more happy for her if she didn't keep telling everyone what great willpower she has and how we shouldn't eat snacks while having them herself.

Yeah that would be annoying 😂 I would just start eating cakes at my desk 😂

SilenceInside · 11/08/2025 21:06

Just tell her to stop commenting. That’s all it takes. Curious as to why you haven’t so far!

SomeOfTheTrouble · 11/08/2025 21:06

betnet · 11/08/2025 21:04

You would if you are hiding it from your family.

She’d still have to take it home with her when she goes. And surely she’d hide it at the bottom of her bag, not leave it casually on the top for anyone to see.
Nah, not buying it. Any of it,

CallMeEvelyn · 11/08/2025 20:53

This doesn't add up. Diabetes injections have to be kept in cool temperature, weight loss pens I assume too. She wouldn't have kept one in her handbag.

Secondly, why would you assume she has no self control and doesn't diet? That's exactly what she's doing by the sounds of it, medication suppresses the food noise most likely which many non-obese or overweight people don't understand because they don't experience it, and she eats a controlled diet. It's a level playing field and you seem very judgemental and ignorant.

Read the previous posts about the fridge issue.

If Sally has lost weight she has reduced her calorie intake. If she has been exercising as well, good for her. If she is taking WLI still good for her. She has still lost weight by eating less.

It might be annoying, but right now it is probably a big part of her life. If she has struggled to lose weight in the past and has finally found something that works, whether or not that’s WLI, she is very possibly obsessed with her new way of life. Be the better person and show some interest and some kindness.

We have been showing her kindness for years. Unfortunately it is not returned as we get told off for having snacks while she has them herself.

Exactly isn’t it a weekly thing? You’d not carry it round for a once a week jab.

You would if you are hiding it from your family.

Why does it bother you? Just be happy for her. I have friends on monjourno and it is not a magic pill, you have to still put some effort in to eat halthily and she might have also put in loads of other effort and the injection is one tool in her health journey.
I list three stone on the cambridge diet in three months, but I also excercised, changed my diet, did loads of yoga and basically changed my entire lifestyle and mindset and cambridge was just one part of the journey.

I would be more happy for her if she didn't keep telling everyone what great willpower she has and how we shouldn't eat snacks while having them herself.

I would tred very carefully here. 1. It's medical information and is protected under GDPR and is "protected data", colleague or not & insufferable or not it still does not give you the right to it.2. Why do you feel the need to 'look ' in someone's bag ...open or not could leave u open to all sorts of accusations in future e.g. if something goes missing you'll be first to blame ...3. It's none of your business , mind your own , she doesn't owe you a thing 4. If the behaviour bothers you communicate , change the subject, suddenly become "too busy to chat" or just be honest and say "can we please change the subject?"

Her bag was wide open on her desk. I didn't grab her bag off her and look inside 🙄do you walk round guarding your eyes all the time?

I haven't told anyone and neither am I intending to. I was annoyed because she is telling everyone off for having snacks and saying she has such great willpower. She has snacks herself though.

I’m on the jabs and the office keep asking me what my secret is and asking how I’m doing it. I’d rather not lie really, but I don’t want to be telling everyone or getting their opinions or further questions on it, so I just say calorie counting. If people didn’t ask, I wouldn’t have to lie, but I don’t think I owe it to people at work to tell them what I’m doing.

How do you know that is how we are all making her feel? Are you one of my colleagues?

Is it wrong to notice when someone loses or gains weight?

You said that "We have all" noticed her weight change.

In order for everyone to know that everyone has noticed it, it must have been mentioned amongst all of you.

People under observation from the rest of the group usually pick up on the fact its happening...
