To feel inconvenienced by a tragic accident?

OnemargarIta · 11/08/2025 11:36

I'm currently in Italy (staying in Rome) for three nights. It's my first foreign break in a warm country and I've been so excited and saved up especially.

We booked an excursion for today consisting of a trip to Sorrento where we'd spend time exploring, visiting shops and enjoying local food - and then on to Pompeii on the route back.

We've spent the whole morning/day so far stuck in traffic on the motor way. We are so behind schedule we can now no longer go to Sorrento first because Pompeii closes at 5.30 and there won't be time. A sit down restaurant meal will now be replaced by a takeaway which will be eaten on the coach.

We've just been told the cause of the traffic jam and it's because somebody has died in a collision on the motorway.

Instead of feeling saddened about the loss of life I just feel inconvenienced and pissed off that the highlight of my trip has been ruined.

Does this make me a shitty person? It just occurred that it might 😳

LemonCheesecake2025 and your mate who I don't have time to go back and quote, I think you should give it a rest now especially if, as you say, you're working on a busy A&E ward in 35 degree heat.

I don't know how, with the job you claim to have, you've found all of this time to sit on this thread lambasting me. Just hide it and go about your life.

I was on holiday for a week and went back yesterday evening..
And fair enough.
Have a nice life.

I think it does. I can't believe that we have got to this point in humanity where you will write out an entire post about being inconvenienced by a human being's death.

Someone's child, or parent or sibling?

Really?

This post sums it up.

I was not unkind. This is the last thing I will say on the matter. I know how it feels to lose a very close sibling in a car accident at 18 years old through no fault of his own. I saw how it affected my parents. How it broke them.

So yes, I thought OP's post was odd. I don't understand what she wanted to get from the thread. I agree I can't police threads on here. As for a pile on, you were just as bad not letting other posters get their points across and making things up.

OP, had an attitude too.

I don't care what you think of me either.

Edited

Everyone has had the chance to put their views across, I haven’t tried to tell anyone they can’t post, that’s a strange thing to say.

I’m very sorry about your sibling, I’ve also lost a sibling under tragic circumstances but I don’t expect strangers to care about my sibling, he is a nameless, faceless person to most of the world.

WhatWouldJeevesDo · 13/08/2025 20:52

Some people on here have said more goodbyes than Dame Nellie Melba. And asking someone to stop quoting you and then spending the rest of the afternoon posting on the thread is quite entitled @Justchilling07, don’t you think?

We'll agree to disagree. I'll move on from this thread thinking you are as odd as the OP. I honestly don't care what you think about me. I mean it when I say goodbye, it's been interesting.

Edited

Yes ok, I’m sure you’ll be back soon.

I never said I did care about the OP. The beauty of that being, she doesn’t seem like that would bother her in the slightest as she isn’t trying to parade herself as a bastion of virtue.

I haven’t taken the piss out of anyone being triggered but I do believe that each individual should take responsibility for their own feelings and sometimes that means avoiding discussions you may find upsetting rather than constantly insulting and having a go at people who feel differently to you.

My mind remains unchanged. Funnily enough, you telling me that you think I’m not a nice person hasn’t brought me round to your way of thinking.

I actually don't think you care about the OP. I think you just want to argue with people. I don't know what you have been through but you seem to have a problem with other people going through stuff. Taking the piss out of people who may be triggered says a lot.

Take a look in the mirror and ask yourself why you are so upset about OP being called out for a really odd thread.

Until you’re back again just like your pal @LemonCheesecake2025 who keeps leaving and keeps coming back…

It’s your choice what you do on your break. I’m not sure why you’ve told me what your job is or how hard it is and how hot it is and that you’ve used your break to reply to my post… unless you are looking for sympathy of course.

You know what? If someone had said what I did on a thread that I'd posted I would at least say, I'm sorry to hear that', not just 'well leave the thread then', it's not about sympathy, it's about common decency, something the OP clearly lacks, I dont go looking for sympathy and I dont want sympathy.
While she was sitting 'inconvenienced' on her coach stuck in traffic someone else was going to be getting a knock on the door that would change their lives forever.
You are coming across in exactly the same way the OP was coming across, you're proving my point with every post.
But you continue to polish her ego.
When something tragic happens to some people they become more empathetic because they know the circumstances and how family members are affected.
Now I'm working in 36 degree temperatures on a busy A&E ward tonight, I have used my break to reply to you.
I'm having nothing more to do with this thread.
Goodbye.

No, you are not a shitty person. The shitty people are those who making judgements of you on this thread! It is ok to feel annoyed and have sympathy at the same time. This does not make you a bad person.

She didn't have sympathy. That was the point of the thread.

LemonCheesecake2025 · 13/08/2025 19:46

WhereIsMyJumper · 13/08/2025 18:36

You said OP was a shitty person and said you hoped the rest of her holiday was shit.
TBF, others were far nastier than you I guess. Although that’s a low bar.

Like I said I don't care what you think of me. You've not come across well either.

I stand by what I originally thought. It was a stupid thread for attention. What on earth did she want everyone to say?

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 19:28

WhereIsMyJumper · 13/08/2025 19:18

She was right, I agree with her. I can’t understand why you’re putting yourself through it when you could just not read the thread.

And good for you - out here doing the lord’s work calling out what YOU deem as narcissistic or self centred. And is the world all the better for your crusade

This is the reason she said she hoped the rest of her holiday was shit and if you look back there were a few others who thought her tone was unacceptable in the context of my post.
I really don't care what you're saying about me on here, you're like a dog with a bloody bone.
The OP cares about no one but herself and I'm not a fan of narcissistic, self centered people. Thats why I call them out.
To not even feel a tiny bit of fleeting sadness at someone's death, albeit a stranger, just inconvenience, isn't normal.
But you continue giving the OP all the validation she wants.

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 18:54

And as me and Lemoncheesecake have first hand experience of losing someone in similar circumstances we're allowed to find this thread crass.
But you continue to call us virtue signallers 🤔

So leave the thread, why are you re-traumatising yourself on purpose by reading along and posting repeatedly?

This is the reason she said she hoped the rest of her holiday was shit and if you look back there were a few others who thought her tone was unacceptable in the context of my post.

Agreed. The Be Kind brigade always show their true colours in the end, which are not kind.

WhereIsMyJumper · 13/08/2025 16:22

Yep. Apparently it’s ok because the OP deserves it 😳

Because she had the temerity to say she doesn't have what some people are insisting are the only appropriate responses. I think we've even had 'do better' on here.

Not feeling upset that a stranger has died? Not going to affect anyone in any way whatsoever. Sharing that thought with the bereaved? The stuff psychopaths are made of. Whinging to emergency services that your journey is delayed (as I've heard of people doing)? Contemptible. Talking about it on an online forum? Failing to see what harm op has caused anyone.

myplace · 13/08/2025 17:00

And those three posters have not improved the world one bit with their virtuous crusade.

myplace · 13/08/2025 16:58

Some self reflection is in order from the people hounding other people for having wrong thoughts.

Volturra · 13/08/2025 16:53

Letmehaveabloodyusernameplease · 13/08/2025 15:56

Why all the questions? It's easy to miss a post on a fast paced thread.
The poster who did post that was out of line but it was OP who drew attention to it calling it 'gold'.

The 'get up' post has been misrepresented. The poster who made that comment was highlighting how dramatic people were being in relation to the op. I.e. the way some people were reacting you'd think op had done something shockingly crass. The post is still up and I fail to see that it's especially offensive.
