Would you visit NI? Why/why not? I always find it interesting how marmite of a place my home is - keen to hear some opinions and maybe dispel a rumour or two :)

Fair enough so have I 🤣

ACynicalDad · 10/08/2025 21:46

Have planned to for a while, not sure when it will actually happen but giants causeway and the titanic museum would be really interesting.

Yes,have been 3 times.
DH has cousins who live in Belfast.

Brainstorm23 · 10/08/2025 21:40

Yes I live in Belfast. English people definitely shouldn't visit. They also definitely shouldn't even think of moving here as house prices are high enough already 😀

Yes I would. We have family in Ireland and visit regularly, but I'd like to visit Northern Ireland, particularly Dublin and the Giants' Causeway.

Yes - I did earlier this year
Did Mussenden Temple, Portrush for 1 night, Giant’s Causeway then drove down the east coast.

Stayed in Belfast for 3 nights. Did Titanic distillery and museum, Crumlin Road Gaol, Falls Road, bus tour etc

Fabulous holiday

No. I don't like the accent and I have little sympathy for the occupants who do not ant a united Ireland. I also feel it is too much effort to travel there when I could go to France or Italy instead.

Why would they if they feel themselves to be British?

Probably a throw back from the Troubles?

Omg of course. Sorry, long week and my brains not functioning.

Either way, yes I'd go back for work but also just to visit.

peepsypops · 10/08/2025 21:23

@Bambamhoohoowell, yes. Because the post suggested there would be a specific danger by them visiting and I wondered why they think that of NI specifically.

Why, do you want them go relive racist incidents for you? Talk about micro aggression.

I’ve never been to NI but my DH has. He was made to feel very unwelcome in Belfast and he could only assume it’s because he doesn’t ‘look British’. Other English people visiting the same places as him were definitely being treated better. It’s the first and only time he’s been made to feel really uncomfortable in a sizeable UK city.

PhaseFour · 10/08/2025 21:16

I visited Belfast several years ago. Took my teenagers amd we had a fantastic time. We'd all love to go back. Infact, I hanker after relocating there, but I have too many ties where I live, so it will never happen. Shame!

Ive been twice in the last 4 months. Is there a reason it's Marmite? I travel there frequently for work....

Probably a throw back from the Troubles?

wolleywool · 10/08/2025 21:13

I was surprised by the Peace walls, the houses with the cages over their gardens & some of the more scary murals. And then how a short distance away you were in a city that looked vastly different with lovely housing stock.

mathanxiety · 10/08/2025 21:11

Absolutely, yes.

EmeraldLove · 10/08/2025 21:11

Went for the first time earlier this year. Would really love to return some time and explore more.

Dunluce castle is an absolutely cracking ruin with amazing views (we love Narnia and it’s apparently an inspiration for Caer Paravel too). We had it almost to ourselves when we went!

Ooh, bookmarking that! When I’ve been it’s mostly to spend time with elderly family in a small town so I miss all the sightseeing stuff.

Pregnancyquestion · 10/08/2025 21:10

Yes planned to a few years ago as went to Dublin and wanted to go to Belfast and the giants causeway but the car hire we had got cancelled and so we never made it. Would love to go some day

I visited NI for the millenium New Year, with a NI boyfriend, to go to one of his friend's party. It was OK. Weather was as you would expect for that time of the year. Nothing made me want to return.

I would have enjoyed it more, probs, if I wasn't taking Larium for an imminent trip to Kenya.
