32 weeks pregnant. Why do people need to comment on other people's pregnancies.

Sigh. I'd be interested to read stories of similar interactions so I don't feel like the only one!

There was a lady at my children’s primary school who would mention the fact I wasn’t wearing a coat EVERY FRICKING TIME I SAW HER IN THE PLAYGROUND!

I was like a furnace for the last few weeks of pregnancy. If I wanted a coat on, I’d have put one on.

Phew, been sitting on that for ten years 😂

I actually did have two in there, at my last appt with my midwife before my section for a laugh we measured my bump and I measured 50 weeks pregnant haha. My GOD the comments on my size. It was infuriating. It’s such an odd thing to comment on. I’m pregnant, massive and miserable - offer me a light snack or go away.

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 10/08/2025 18:40

Oh, I got this all the time. It's just pregnancy small talk - I didn't take it personally.

FlowersAndFruit · 10/08/2025 18:39

What are these good intentions though? What can they expect us to say? There could be a really sad response.

Similar to things like, are you hoping for a girl this time? Was the baby planned?

The friend who asked me if I was happy about it - I responded that if I wasn't happy I wouldn't have got to 30 weeks!

Silly cow.

Yes I have a lot of fluid. Which is actually a medical concern apparently.

😭

Mine was the opposite. Pregnant with twins, and because I am tall I had a very tidy/petite bump.

I lost count the number of times I was asked "are you sure there's two in there? (tinkly laugh)"😒

I'm sure it's said with good humour intentions, but they are quite literally saying I've lost a twin??

RandomMess · 10/08/2025 18:35

Well the comment about a huge bump being twins, yep had that lots from anyone who asked my due date.

DC was 10lb6oz with “copious” amounts of fluid and a whopping placenta and I’m vertically challenged so tbf not dissimilar to have a twin pregnancy tbh.

I got this all the time when I was pregnant with my second baby. I was bigger than with my first but I didn't think I looked particularly massive. My pregnancy was noticeable early on (no keeping it secret until 12 weeks for me) so the comments started early too. I was so so sick of them by the end.

Are you sure there's only one in there?

You can't possibly still have x weeks to go... You look ready to pop!

SHUT UP! So rude. I was pregnant at the same time as a colleague who was petite with a very neat bump and the constant comparisons really wore me down too.

Also, the woman down the road from my parents' house who just stared, mouth open and pointed at my belly. Bore off you old hag.

And the woman who asked me last year after I had had my tenth loss and happened to be wearing an unflattering dress, when it was due, STFU.

And everyone asking me the sex of the baby, and its name. You'll find out when you find out.

While we're at it, here are the gifts I would actually appreciate after the birth. A house visit from a masseuse. Champagne or similar.

That's all.
