Do childless couples have better sex lives?

…..because the woman’s body doesn’t change (assuming she doesn’t gain weight, and obviously ageing happens)?

Of course a vagina changes, after having a vaginal birth.Pelvic floor exercises are important, if you don’t do them after childbirth, then you are going to be looser, not all women do these, for different reasons, some women get torn vaginally, have a really difficult birth.Having children can cause gynaecological problems, which will affect a woman’s libido.

Vaginas can change but for many reasons.

Mine has changed and I have exactly 0 kids.

Also why is a sex life all about a woman’s body?

I am childless and don’t have sex (haven’t in years) so take that as you will (I also have a very different body at 44 than 24).

Edited

Because it's not about what you enjoy, it's about what he's looking at, apparently. Men's bodies are naturally perfect and unchanging.

More sleep
More disposable income
Skinnier wife
More spontaneity

So yeah

Gross.

Wow, that clearly hit a nerve! Another poster saying their figure is still the same as when they were 19 and they have a good sex life, due to not having children, they have more time and somehow that’s made you angry! It’s not your place to tell someone on here, they’re talking shit, they don’t understand and to go onto a child free section of MN!!
The whole point of the thread, is, do childless couples have a better sex life, so don’t get why, you have responded to another poster, in such an aggressive way.

I couldn't possibly tell you what it was like to be a childless 60 year old woman. And that's why I never will.

But as a 40 something year old woman with teenagers who had a decade of sex before I had children I can speak about both sides. So yes, I do find it offensive when people come on to a site that is "making parents lives easier" to talk about how women's bodies are some how not good enough for good sex because they had children and to make up wild comments like they can't have sex at 2pm on a Sunday.

Yes, it touched a fucking nerve, because it's ridiculous and offensive. It's misogynistic and it's at best, delusional and creepy with regarding her still having a teenage body.

These are disorders of childbirth though

Talking about them as an inevitability serves nobody

Vaginal birth didn't ruin or break me, it doesn't have to

And if it did, something has gone WRONG, and same as a sports injury it should be treated, not treated as some sort of lifelong before/after threshold!

Don't normalise birth INJURY. It's common but not normal

It's like saying running marathons ruins your sex life, because if you injure yourself, that's you on the scrap heap forever after.

I'm sorry but you're wrong. Not all injuries can be fixed.

SkylarFalls · 10/08/2025 12:53

Making the mistake of taking on a major renovation fixer upper at one point put the breaks on our sex life for a while also

Staying up till after midnight to work on the bloody house after work, exhausted from doing that every evening and getting up for work in between, and being up ladders all weekend, spraining our backs and wrists over and over in the process, is only sexy in 80s movie montages

Really no different in terms of sex life than the pause a new baby can cause. And probably between us caused MORE lasting injuries and aches and pains! And more minor arguments too

But without the WILD pregnancy hormone sex

“The woman’s body doesn’t change”…

The levels of misogyny in this.

Dear God.

MN let any old shit stay up these days. It's genuinely disgusting, but oh well.

If they have toddlers and they don't nap you're correct, but if they don't, I assure you've they've had sex on Sunday afternoons. Babies sleep and kids disappear on video games. Sorry, maybe stick to the child free section instead of talking shit about what clearly have no clue on a parenting site?

And kids go to school all day in terms time!

You're not stuck with a clingy infant on your hip all day for long unless you have one after another after another

And you could never have one after another because sex is impossible after the first one😂

That's why they all had such small families pre birth control pills!

MochiPie · 10/08/2025 11:36

Not for those reasons (for me anyway) but wouldn’t that be normal? I had a way better sex life before I had kids!

Mine wasn't better but it was more frequent. We were decades younger than we are now though and I imagine that is the main reason.

Its better because it's more about intimacy and sensation, less performative, but again that's just maturing. And would have happened without kids.

Bingo!

Not goady, no. I’m just a stage where I’m thinking about how children can affect a relationship. I don’t have kids yet, not sure I want them.

I dont think any lack of sex is because you have a "bad vagina" or got fat...although a small % do have birth injuries.

id say feneral consensus is its because you are exhausted from years of unbroken sleep and You also micro piss each other off about 20 times a day 😅😅😅

You have increased househld work and management and also the financial strain which does make some people anxious too

ConsultMe · 10/08/2025 12:32

I assume so, because usually childless couples are young and in their prime? After children there’s surely less opportunity for date nights or spontaneous intimacy. Some people do feel their body changes after children, but beyond that I think the longer people are in a relationship their appearance starts to slip - weight gain for both men and women for example.

FortheloveofCheesus · 10/08/2025 12:14

Perimenopause is having way more impact than pregnancy/childbirth/kids did. I lost the "baby weight" after DS quite easily, was back in size 10 etc. The weight gain in perimenopause is horrendous and I can't shift the tummy!!

yep, I think younger women need to know the shocks of peri meno that lie ahead.
Clitoral and Vaginal atrophy are a huge unexpected shock of peri and totally destroy any enjoyable sex life.

Justchilling07 · 10/08/2025 12:27

Sweetlikecocaa · 09/08/2025 11:45

A vagina is a muscle. So I think its a combination of what your vagina was like pre child. How many kids you have had because there's a big difference between 1 child and having 3 or 4. To be honest I'm not even convinced you would know it's quite an intimate area so not like asking to look at the muscle on your friends calf or something.

It's swings and round abouts. You could argue that having sex with a loving long term partner is passionate more so than a ONS. Fair enough not as often again this varies some prioritise sex.

What a thread OP!

Sorry I don't understand your last sentence.

My friends with kids can't just disappear upstairs for an hour at 3pm on a Sunday to shag loudly, no. They're kind of....parenting then.

TimeForABreak4 · 10/08/2025 12:27

My sex life hasn't decreased because my body has changed but due to teenagers/young adults who are always around and up later than us milling about.

FortheloveofCheesus · 10/08/2025 12:26

Men change too. Their testosterone levels can fall as they age, plenty of older men have a much lower sex drive, whether they have kids or not, and their bodies change! Both men and women lose muscle mass as they age and tend towards a paunch. Most men eventually lose some hair or even quite a lot. Lots of men get saggier chests etc.

whatacroc · 10/08/2025 12:24

Yes definitely way better sex with no dc. I have dc and its not the fact that they've changed my body its just having sex with dc around isn't as easy. and it gets even worse as the dc is older. No way I could enjoy sex with my teens in the room next door, if they heard anything they'd know exactly what we were doing. DC definitely ruined our sex life.

KPPlumbing · 10/08/2025 12:24

Whatapileofshit · 10/08/2025 12:21

Are you bragging that you have weekly sex at a time that most people are home and available for sex? I'm confused. I'm also confused that anyone has the exact body shape as when they were 18 and isn't 19.

Sorry I don't understand your last sentence.

Yeah, I know quite a few women who went back to the gym after babies and kept their old figure (with stretch marks of course, but those are nothing to be ashamed of).

There’s also the fact that menopause changes all women’s bodies, and sex drive declines with age for everyone anyway.

I dont think "sex drive declines with age for everyone" is true.
