To send a letter from the tooth fairy but no money?

Dc wanted a visit from the tooth fairy so spent about 24 hours wobbling and wobbling a slightly wobbly tooth to make it come out.
Tooth fairy came and brought money but told them to be careful not to get rid of teeth before they’re ready!

They’ve done it again with a tooth that wasn’t wobbly before the other one came out but now they had access they went at it until it came out. It wasn’t ready and they had to really yank it out but they are so desperate for another tooth fairy visit.

Aibu to send a letter from the tooth fairy but no money this time?

I haven’t made up my mind either way. I’ve talked to friends in RL and some have said no way should I leave money and some have said I should. I don’t want dc to do it again.

YABU: leave money
YANBU: don’t leave any money

Any suggestions on what should go in the letter to warn them off doing it again?

YABU

You're about to destroy the tooth fairy for your kid!!!!!

Do you have any idea how hard it is to pull a tooth???? Go to the dentist and watch them do an extraction. They don't just pop out like chicklets. If your child's tooth came out, it was already loose even if they pulled at it.

It is not uncommon for kids to lose a bunch of teeth all at the same time. My 9 y/o lost three teeth within a week a few months back and he doesn't fiddle with them, they won't even be loose sometimes and will just pop out. When he was younger the front ones all came out around the same time as well.

Don't be an AH and wreck this for your kid!

I used to write little notes with my kids' teeth (usually because I had to apologise for the payment being 'late' as I was so ridiculously busy at the time with working, studying, kids etc). My children are now grown up but what they remember is not the money but the notes - I wrote them in curly writing in different colours/ gold pens and wrote that the reason for the delay was that I (fairy) had been busy building castles out of the other teeth, but thanks so much for this beautiful tooth - we plan to use it for a new bridge across the moat/ new fairy fountain/ path to the castle gardens etc. They absolutely loved it and were just talking about it recently (along with the tripwire they devised one year for Father Christmas!).
I think if you make the note a lovely thing, but then write something like 'thank you for your beautiful tooth - we're hoping to use it for the fairy blah blah. ps try not to wiggle your tooth TOO much to get it out - we don't want you to hurt yourself/damage your lovely new teeth that are coming through. Thanks (DS name), love Tia the Tooth Fairy' Or something! I'd have to check first if it does actually damage the big teeth; not sure it does?
With the money, I used to give pound coins as I thought the gold coins worked well with the fairy thing. Not sure it matters whether you include money or not this time - I just probably wouldn't give too much.

There’s a big difference between note+money and just a note, especially if that note is delivering a bollocking.

Honestly, what is this thing for outsourcing parenting to fiction characters? In the short term he’ll feel gutted that the tooth fairy didn’t bring him any money (despite the fact that she presumably comes to all his friends irrespective of whether they’ve been wobbling the teeth out). In the longer term the penny will drop and he’ll feel completely betrayed. Just put a quid under his pillow and tell him yourself that he shouldn’t be wobbling them out, it’s not difficult.

Sorry but that’s not special, it’s really cruel !!

He is a child for gods sake

This seesm more about control than anything

Ah I feel sad for him :(

I'd leave the money. All kids wobble their teeth out. A letter with a ribbon around it won't be special to a child when it's the money they are after. I'm not even sure when this fairy letter writing started. My parents just used to leave the coin under my pillow and I was delighted, i didn't need any letter.

Midnightlove · 09/08/2025 20:25

I hate all this using santa/the elf/tooth fairies to disapline kids.. it's supposed to be a nice thing. Imagine waking up to a letter all wrapped up pretty and finding that inside it 🙄

13 yr old DD had to have 4 adult teeth extracted by the dentist before she had braces fitted. She was a bloody (pun intended) trooper over it and made a joke about whether the tooth fairy was going to come that night. I stuck £20 under her pillow and a ‘note’ from the tooth fairy saying adult teeth were worth more 🤣.

Your DC’s baby teeth will come out, does it really matter if they wobble them out a bit earlier than intended? I guarantee from DD’s experience, it’s not easy getting teeth out that don’t want to come out!

Haha! When I had my wisdom teeth out at 14 it was under GA, and as I was coming round I burbled on and on to the nurse asking her repeatedly whether she thought the tooth fairy would come! I was joking but I'm not sure that translated in my drugged-up state! I still cringe about that! 😳

Pessismistic · 09/08/2025 19:02

Tooth fairy is on holiday so you give him a pound or whatever then say the tooth fairy is only allowed to leave money when the tooth falls out not pulled out. The last thing you want is for him to keep doing this.

MrsSunshine2b · 09/08/2025 18:55

PenelopeSkye · 09/08/2025 18:48

It surely wouldn’t be possible for a child to pull out a tooth that is not at all ready to come out?! They are so solid! Sounds like it was starting to make its way out, and he has just given it a helping hand. I think you’re making a weirdly big deal out of it!

Makes me wonder if OP is generally resistant to him growing up and has a tendency to punish him for not staying a baby!

MargaretThursday · 08/08/2025 17:14

Tooth fairies can come to a tooth that's deliberately pulled. Just give them money; they'll get less later, so it evens out.

One of my dc had a lad in her form who was missing his front 4 teeth for most of year R and 1 because he'd wobbled them out. It made no difference in the long run.

Tell him that well kept teeth get more money and make the most of him brushing well.

I don’t think OP is worried about the money aspect, it’s more her son yanking at non wobbly teeth.

Thank you! That’s what’I’ve done and wrapped it up in ribbon so it’s still special!

This year two of my sons adult teeth were coming in high without any sign of the baby teeth coming out below it, so the dentist pulled them out and one of the few consolations of the injection and pulled teeth for him was double tooth fairy money that night.

You might shoot yourself in the foot with this 'not paying as they didn't come out naturally' part if they need dental work later on...

MrsSunshine2b · 09/08/2025 18:46

If they were able to pull them out they were clearly ready to come out. Why does it matter whether you give them that money now or in a couple of weeks? It's coming out either way.

I did this with my Dd, her friends teeth were starting to come out and she was jealous, so I wrote a message from the tooth fairy to say well done for looking after her teeth so well and left her a shiny £1 coin 🙂

Mumof2amazingasdkiddos · 09/08/2025 18:29

I agree with leaving a note @Toothfairyteller but I maybe would've have left less money than normal as the tooth wasn't ready and a line about checking with mummy if the next tooth is wobbly enough to be wobbled out so they get the full amount next time.
Appreciate I'm too late to the party now as whatever you decided to do has been done! Are you happy to provide an update and let us know the final decision and the reaction? Understand if you're not!

AuntyDepressant · 09/08/2025 11:28

It tends to be far mess complicated if people just stop lying to there kids about fairies. Imagine if nobody had ever told him about it? Would he still be yanking teeth out to get money?

FromanEmpire · 09/08/2025 11:23

Liliwen · 09/08/2025 11:10

Even if it was already wobbly?

The kid’s going to have teeth uncomfortably hanging on by a thread after this because he will be too worried to touch them in case the tooth fairy says no again

Yes.

I didn’t say that OP should not give money - I actually said she should. That has. I thing to do with whether wobbling baby teeth damages gums and adult teeth.

Liliwen · 09/08/2025 11:10

FromanEmpire · 08/08/2025 23:30

It can damage the adult tooth or the gum.

Auntiebenita · 09/08/2025 04:27

But why? It won't make any difference in the long run and anyway, if the tooth wasn’t nearly ready to come out anyway he wouldn’t have been able to wobble it out.

Seems mean to me. Poor boy. It’s a good way to give him hang-ups about teeth coming out in future. And how are you going to police what’s going on inside his mouth?

XWKD · 09/08/2025 03:44

Tell them the truth -that government cutbacks mean the tooth fairy is overstretched, and the number of visits had to be cut.

Eenameenadeeka · 09/08/2025 03:33

I really don't understand where you are coming from on this one, why would pulling it out mean they don't get the money? I would most definitely give them the money

cheesycheesy · 09/08/2025 01:56

Joyless

Midnightrain13 · 09/08/2025 01:49

Poor kid 😢 Wish I knew the address to drop £2 off from the tooth fairy 🤣

PeonyBulb · 09/08/2025 01:42

just leave the money

Do not do this. Why does it matter if they wobble it and get it out that way? Kids have done this for decades (and probably centuries!) with no harm done. What a horrible thing to effectively punish them for. Really mean.
