Beyond fed up of DH’s dispute with neighbour

This has been going on for months now and it kicked off again earlier.

One of our neighbours on the opposite side of the street keeps parking his van opposite our drive. This can make it challenging for us to get on and off as it’s very tight.

DH raised initially - he said politely, I wasn’t there - and it stopped for a bit but then resumed. I have overheard two heated confrontations where DH goes out to speaks to him as he parks up.

Tonight, there was a right slanging match which became personal. The man appears to live alone and DH said it’s no wonder he’s on his own. He then said something inappropriate along the lines of ‘I’ll let you have a go on my missus if you ask nicely’ and then said he was joking and in his dreams.

Any advice? I’m sick of hearing about it!!

You’ve came here to ask advice about what we think of your husband arguing with a neighbour about park?!!
I think you’ve got more questions to ask about what he said about you!
The parking incident is less of a concern compared to what your husband actually thinks about you, to say something like he did, is so degrading, it doesn’t sound like he’s got any respect for you!

Yes we do, and to be honest I’m used to him being a knob and beyond caring at this point

As I suspected. He’s such a pig that you simply glossed over this and you start a thread about parking.

I hope you don’t have daughters with him because his comments show you exactly what he thinks of women. And if you’ve sons I also feel sorry if he’s going to infect them with his misogynistic bile.

Your problems are way bigger than parking. What he said will never be ok.

Springadorable · 08/08/2025 19:38

Oh fuck that. If you have a drive that is too tight to get a car out of when someone is legally parked on the road opposite, that's on you. For him to say that about you confirms he's an absolute twat. Your poor neighbour.

My interpretation of events is as follows:

  • husband pissed off with guy parking van in front of house
  • neighbour DGAF about husband, continues to park
  • husband gives reasons for neighbour not to park but neighbour says I’ll park wherever I want what you gonna do
  • husband runs out of arguments, sees neighbour lives alone and attacks him on a personal level. feels that his parking behaviour contributes to him being single
  • suggests neighbour can ride his wife to cheer him up as this will somehow lead to better parking courtesy
this is an example of ‘man math’

This is an excellent summary 👏🏻

I’d start parking where the van usually does, but I’m a cow

Same.

We have a car and a van, due to the size of the van both cannot fit in our drive. The lady across from us put a polite note through our door saying she struggles to get out her drive if the van is parked across from it.

My husband doesn't park across from it because hes not a prick.

VIOLETPUGH · 08/08/2025 19:14

Your husband saids a proper ignorant 🐷! He talks about you like a slab of meat and also that road isn't his, if neighbour parks there hard looks should have thought about having plenty of room when you bought the house.

Oh goodie! With that attitude of just "taking it and not caring", the world is assured that there will be another generation who hears this crap growing up and thinks it's normal.

Seriously, why are you letting anyone treat you like that? Will you be happy when your children are grown and have zero respect for you? For others?

Even if you don't care what he does, you should care about what your children are learning.

PaddlingSwan · 08/08/2025 19:04

Apologies, but what is park up?

Absolutely and this is exactly what I have done when in the same situation. Especially as what's good for the van is also OK for you as long as it's not on a dropped kerb.

I’d be kicking my DH out over the comment about me, the parking isn’t the issue.

Ellejay67 · 08/08/2025 18:59

Blimey...he's sticking up for you. Maybe continue to park and unpark awkwardly then.

HideousKinky · 08/08/2025 18:56

I'd say parking issues with neighbours are the least of your problems if you are married to a man who would speak about you like this

Wistfullysleepy · 08/08/2025 18:55

Is the neighbour hot?

THEDEACON · 08/08/2025 18:50

If my DH had said that hed no longer have a problem with the parking opposite the house because hed no longer live in it !

If you’re beyond caring, what advice are you looking for?

I would absolutely of walked out and not looked back. What a horrible disrespectful thing to say. Please tell me you've pulled him up on this

Lizziespring · 08/08/2025 18:44

What a pillock. Probably time to dump him for the neighbour.

Blablibladirladada · 08/08/2025 18:41

Said whaaaaaat????

how on earth is that anything to do with parking in the first place? Your DH is proper vile.
Move out and leave DH with the neighbor.

MH0084 · 08/08/2025 18:40

Your husband crossed all lines there. What he said was not a silly joke. It was bluntly disrespectful. If my DH said that about me in a piss matching competition, his clothes would start flying out of the window. FFS.

DiscoBob · 08/08/2025 18:36

'Ill let you have a go on my missus'?!
Is that what men say to eachother while having a heated argument?! The mind boggles.

Tell him it's absolutely vile he said that. And it's not a joke. That you couldn't give a stuff about his row with the neighbour, but his comment is going to be very hard to forgive and forget.

Luckyingame · 08/08/2025 18:35

OpenThatWindow · 07/08/2025 21:43

If my DH said that as a 'joke' to anyone about me, he wouldn't have the privilege of being married to me for any longer.

It's really bizarre.

Flowercakes · 08/08/2025 18:32

VintageMarket · 07/08/2025 22:14

Apology accepted.

Yet your comment was deleted.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 08/08/2025 18:28

'Sorry, DH, when you said that my fanny clamped shut and I can't see it being available to anyone, you included, for the foreseeable future.'

And until he's sorts out the issue with the neighbour, politely, that would be goodnight from me.

WhitePudding · 08/08/2025 18:25

I’m so sorry that you are married to a man like this, said in jest or not. I’ve been married nearly 30 years and my husband has never said anything about me or disrespected me in such a way regardless of what it’s about. You need to dig deep and look at the bigger picture. Do you have children with him?

MelliC · 08/08/2025 18:25

Park your own car in front of your house, not on your drive?
Talk to the council about making your dropped curb lower?
Retrofit 360 cameras?
Understand that your husband sees women as commodities to be traded, divorce him and get your own place where you can park in peace?
