Messaged "celeb" crush and now feel like an idiot

A bit lighthearted. He is a member of a semi- famous indie band. I just replied to his IG story asking about his pet. Nothing at all flirty. I'd had a couple of glasses of wine when I did that. He didn't reply and now I feel like an absolute tit! AIBU to feel like this? He probably gets loads of messages from fans and doesn't really read them so I'm probably BU!

They do that with everyone.
I've had the bog standard letter ack too.

Yeah, I know! Feels a bit more important than that when you’re 7 though!

I wrote a letter to the queen years ago when I was little because some foxes were culled due to them eating some swans! Mi mam must have said that all swans belong to the queen and so I wrote her a strongly worded letter telling her to leave foxes alone in the future or else. Months later I received a fancy letter back, wax seal and everything, telling me they’d passed my very serious concerns on to the queen! 🤣

They do that with everyone.
I've had the bog standard letter ack too.

I don't think any celeb would reply to a message from a random person on their Instagram story. ConfusedHe probably doesn't even run his own account.

Eddie Izzard replied to me !

I once accidentally messaged William Orbit, in the early days of MySpace (for younger readers, this was a sort of Facebook prototype). For some reason I imagined he had added me as a friend (not sure how I got this idea... not even pissed!!!), and thanked him. Then I realised my mistake and wrote again to apologise. He sent me a very sweet message saying that getting the hang of it was all rather confusing and not to worry. Emboldened, I sent him a track someone I knew had made. He said it was a perky little number and was very nice about it. When I told them, they were gobsmacked because when they had put the track together, they'd often joked "What if William Orbit got to hear this one day?" and I had inadvertently realised their dream!

This is hilarious

I don’t know what this means?

PlioTalk · 09/08/2025 18:46

@Fandango52- quoted the wrong bloody post, didn't I 😅😅 I meant the one about your daughter!

I emailed a former England football manager (initials GS) via the FA last year to thank him for his work as manager. Not sure why I don’t fancy writing his full name, as he’s very well known - but I’ve gone all shy 😂 I don’t fancy him but just really respect and admire him. I never got a reply, and I doubt he even saw it, but I’m glad I did it.

Also emailed Adrien Brody’s agent earlier this year to congratulate him on his Oscar win. Again, just felt like it and never got a reply but glad I did it.

@Fandango52that must've made her whole year! What a lovely thing for him to do.

Tresamour · 09/08/2025 18:40

Ha ha, that's a great story and a brave thing to do if you ask me. If it was Glen Hoddle, I also had a crush on him in the seventies. 😀 X

@Arlanymor nooo nothing cringey- that's not my style. Just said that his pet was beautiful and asked its name (I genuinely do love animals) ☺️

I would think that he probably assumes you are some kind of pet nut rather that someone who is obsessed with him

Electricrhubarb · 09/08/2025 11:34

Seriously, you have nothing to worry about. I once told a work colleague when I was a bit tipsy at a work do, that I fancied a married man who'd flirted me. He had a bit of the George Clooney about him so think I can be forgiven, but of course I would never have dreamt of going there.

Unfortunately she told another work colleague who was extremely toxic, who reported me to my manager and told her that I was actually having an affair with him. My manager then reported me to his place of work, all done without actually asking me if any of it was actually true!

I live in a small town so obviously people started gossiping, and I was absolutely mortified and even considered moving to another part of the country!

Notascouser1990 · 07/08/2025 18:55

@PullTheBricksDown as i said its lighthearted. I'm both mortified and laughing at myself! I've met people who have met him and all have said he's lovely ☺️

Edited

He's probably not even seen your message, can't you just delete it?

FedUp120028 · 09/08/2025 01:27

I messaged Gérard Butler offering to smother him with my big boobies 😩🫣😅

EstherGreenwood63 · 08/08/2025 22:16

@namechangeGOT Another Pearcy fan here... it was the thighs...😂

Treacletreacle · 08/08/2025 21:59

When i was 15 i sent a letter to a cricketer who had just debut for England. Sent it care of the club he played for. Wasn't rude but for some reason i added my phone number at the bottom. Anyway he actually called my house (was that long ago im talking land line and asked for me) conversation went as "hi is that Treacle? This is..... I got your letter. How old are you?" me "im 15" cricketer "oh ive got to go bye". A few years later he was in the sunday paper for being abit of a loverat. My dad said "thank god you told him you was 15"

DaringQuoter · 08/08/2025 21:39

You’re feeling embarrassed because you know what you were thinking. Obviously he doesn’t, so there’s no need to worry. The fact there was no response feels like rejection, but that’s all in your mind - it’s not what happened. Put it behind you x

allmymonkeys · 08/08/2025 21:07

You've nothing to feel embarrassed about. I assume it was a nice message asking about his pet, yes? If he minds getting messages at all then he shouldn't post on social media.

lolomoon · 08/08/2025 20:47

Don’t overthink it. My inbox is 50% one sided conversations from me to celebs I’ve never met 😆 I thought that was normal.

Oh for goodness sake! This is a light heated thread, about some of the daft things we’ve all done, and it’s making me smile.

Don't be so po- faced about it… just scroll on by if it’s not your thing.

its much more rewarding to live in the real world

Who says you can't do both?
Nothing wrong with some online escapism.

Many years ago as a youngster, I wrote a love letter to Hartley hare from the pipkins, for those of you old enough to remember him, you can laugh and for those who are to young to only Google him if you aren't of a nervous disposition 😊

Oh, Pipkins! I used to love that, Hartley was a bit annoying though! 🐇

I messaged Liz Jones the journalist a good few years back, something about dogs I think. She replied the next day and we had a good chat back and forth.

I once wrote to my hometown football club manager, after he retired, sent a brief letter and card thanking him for all he’d done over the years and mentioning some of our (very few) glory days.
I received a handwritten letter back, over two pages, with his views of the good times over the years, and his future plans.
What a gentleman and a star!

To be fair I have bigger problems than some bloke in a band not replying atm- I have literally just moved to a new city to get out of a really controlling relationship. I am currently in temp accommodation. I am trying to build a new life for myself. I was just trying to put a tiny bit of joy into my day 🤷‍♀️

She did, she was bold and messaged her celeb crush. That takes bottle! What do you think living is? Working a 9 to 5 and getting drunk on the weekend? Boring. Some people like to actually live.

I had a really lovely Twitter reply from a famous comedian about a Netflix series he did. I was commenting about the portrayal of the parent-child relationship when the parent has dementia, the fleeting moments of joy when the person they were before appears, when they recognise you as their child once more.
It was a nice reply - as gentle as the writing & acting in the series was.
Im pretty sure it was him as it appears he runs his Twitter account not a PR team however if it is run by a PR team then they’re bloody good….

On a more embarrassing note, I wrote to Ioan Gruffudd as I’d found his name & address in the telephone directory around the time of the series Hornblower.
Why was I looking him up? Just why? Why?
I still don’t know why I was looking him up in the first place…
I was warning him that he was at risk of fans turning up… Highly ironic.
I got a sweet reply & signed pic & his name & address disappeared from the public view. Still got the pic!!!

Love the first one but as for the second
your lucky you didn't end up with Alice coming after you!
