A male judge stated he thought the rapist was not a ‘dangerous man’ and that the 13 year old victim had ‘not suffered much degree of psychological harm’

Top Tory blasts 'soft' sentence for man who raped 13-year-old girl

The judge who sentenced Sorosh Amini, 21, said he did not consider the rapist to be a 'dangerous person.'

My reading of this poster’s comments is that they don’t / won’t understand the difference between something being rape or not and the concept of there being mitigating and aggravating factors for a crime.

Whether this is intentional or not is unclear. A number of posters on here seem to be enjoying the chance to be sanctimonious - which only works if others can be depicted as downplaying or excusing rape.

Which not a single person on here has done.

I’m still waiting to hear from the poster who has made some charming insinuations about me on here.

It comes across as uninformed and emotionally immature though. The root causes of criminal behaviour and the treatment of citizens within our existing legal and moral framework is a fascinating and important discussion. I can’t imagine not wanting to expand on that for some inauthentic sounding standard you can’t deviate from

So he should be free to stay and rape more British women instead? Shouldn’t every country take responsibility for their own rapists instead of farming them out to us?

No, your post is in no way related to mine or the posts before it. The only forms of justice discussed have been imprisonment in the uk vs immediate deportation. Staying in the uk unpunished hasn’t been suggested by anyone. It’s a waste of time to engage with.

Bambamhoohoo · 07/08/2025 11:38

Well as another person who wasn’t the victim, you can’t know. It’s possible, but it’s also very possible they want to see justice served, and exporting a rapist to rape Iranian women instead isn’t many people’s version of justice

But you’ve misunderstood the nuance of the example in quite an obvious way. It must be intentional? I don’t understand how anyone could fail to get it otherwise

Relieved he was thousands of miles away rather than in a British prison serving a short sentence before release back into our streets?

You said they should be deported immediately.

so if the victim wants the reassurance of them serving their sentence in a British prison that’s irrelevant to you? What if he is deported immediately to Iran and they don’t punish him at all? He’s simply free to go about his life. How do you think the victim would feel about that?

I haven’t demanded anything, don’t be silly. It’s a discussion we’re having here.

I’m not a victim, but why would that make what I think irrelevant? What you think is equally irrelevant by that token, in which case why bother discussing anything, or having an opinion?

And I don’t know why you bothered saying ‘retribution for crimes they didn’t commit’ - no one has suggested people be punished for crimes they didn’t commit. It amuses me that you dismiss the views of the general public as irrelevant. I wonder what sort of society can function when their views are dismissed or ignored so casually.

the post you’ve quoted said “retribution for crimes they DID COMMIT”

so your last paragraph doesn’t mean anything in this conversation

You demanded justice is done is a particular way that suits you- one that you think it’s appropriate punishment. You are not the victim, what you think is irrelevant.

criminals are locked up or otherwise to prevent them from committing further crime to protect society. This is part of prevention and to support the safety of citizens, not retribution for the crime they did commit . So again, the general public’s view of what this should be is irrelevant.

I agree. It's a very odd mentality, and one that I'm struggling to understand.

Could the people who think all rapes should be treated the same, consider this:

  1. do you think sentencing ranges should be abolished for all offences? So a rape is a rape, a murder is a murder, a theft is a theft and speeding is speeding?

1a) if the answer is no and it's just rape, what is it specifically about rape that makes it different from all other offences so that the usual principles of sentencing should be thrown out?

1b) if the answer is yes, do you think someone should get the same sentence for driving 31 in a 30 or 100 in a 30? What about murder? Life sentences are mandatory, but the minimum tariffs depend on the circumstances. Should the spouse of a terminally ill person, who gives their loved in a morphine overdose to speed their passing be imprisoned for the same time as Wayne Couzens? Or maybe Fred West?

Show me where I claimed to speak on behalf of his victims?

Justice is for all of us, protects all of us. The justice system inherently takes society into account. It’s inextricably linked to the well-being and functioning of a society as a whole.

My opinion is that rape is rape. The 13 year old girl in your example who "wants it" is no less of a victim than another who is targeted by a stranger.

I am not going to accept that rapist A is a kinder rapist than rapist B. I feel angry even considering that as I write it!

No one said that. They said that one instance of rape can be when 13 year old agreed to sex in what they viewed as a romantic relationship with a 16 year old. This is not legally or morally possible and we all agree that girl has been raped.

i think we would also agree there is nuance between that rape and one where a women has been dragged into an isolated area, beaten, left for dead with life long injuries.

Marginal is right! He’s a marginal human being who’s a detriment to society. If he’s not a member of British society and has no interest in becoming a decent one, as shown by his actions, he should be instantly deported. No need for taxpayers money to be wasted on locking him up. Just get him gone.

There have been plenty. Stating for example that 13 year olds can be "asking for it" so that doesn't count as rape in the same way as stranger rape. Its shocking. Have we learned nothing?

Suicidal empathy, as I said. More concerned with the ‘human rights’ of foreign born criminals than British women and girls having the right to walk their neighbourhoods in safety. You think the UK prides itself on this? It’s not much to boast about.

At what point did I say I don’t want criminals who are a risk to others, regardless of their nationality, locked up?
