Why hasn't Ashton Kuchter been cancelled yet?

Great friends with Diddy
Wrote letter supporting the rapist Danny Masterson
Discovered his gf dead and didnt report it, leading to the killer killing again
How he treated his exes

Yet it gets my goat that he's still popular

Because he seems like the kind of self centred bellend who would do that.

With respect I don’t think that is a good enough reason to accuse him. But this is how the internet works you say something and then everyone runs with it. The awful thing is that this could happen to any one of us. Somebody who hates you could start a sm campaign and there will be people who will believe what they say about you just because (you look like that kind of person/someone else told them this etc etc).

Rewis · 04/08/2025 16:06

I thought he was cancelled after the letter. Haven't heard of him since then

Why do you believe it if it isn’t proven? What is your evidence?

Of course she has mixed feelings. He treated her appallingly but being a (very) bad boyfriend is not grounds for cancellation. Nor should it be.

Sure - although some of the things she alleges create a pattern

but I agree about cancelling - it’s a total witch hunt but often used to protect others(higher up the food chain) from the same scrutiny.

A pp mentioned Polanski and the way some actors have fawned over him has really made them go down in my estimation.

Nasrine · 04/08/2025 12:13

"Discovered his gf dead and didnt report it"

This is how wikipedia describe this event: "Kutcher stated that on the night that Ellerin was murdered, Kutcher had arrived to pick her up for a date, but that she had not answered the door." Which doesn't sound like 'he discovered his gf dead and didn't report it'.

TitaniasAss · 04/08/2025 08:20

I agree. I don't believe for a second that he believed Masterton to be guilty.
There are literally hundreds of people who were friends with Coombs, who, again, no doubt didn't know the depths of his depravity.

I think Kutcher is a tosser, but that's irrelevant. I don't think he should be 'cancelled' because of trashy news reports.

Yes absolutely!

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 04/08/2025 11:53

I thought the Masterson letters did for him and Mila as I've certainly not seen either of them in anything for years and she in particular seemed to have a very promising career.

I can't remember exactly but didn't they initially defend writing them or something? Until the volume of public backlash got so loud and they both had a sudden epiphany and apologised.

YABU to think you can "cancel" anyone. It's a load of modern nonsense, and you sound ridiculous.

Fully agree.

Demi Moore has mixed things to say about him tbf

I’ve never understood how he became famous tbh!!

I think this is different given that most of “cancel culture” focuses on harms done to women and our recognition that the law is not equipped to protect us or give us justice. The fact is that most of these men do not get cancelled. Their careers continue. If anything, women in effect end up cancelled. I reckon that recent cancellation trials (Diddy) will result in women not reporting abuses against them.

Edited

If you remember in The Crucible, it was actually women condemning women.

In the Depp/Heard trial it was mostly female fans of Depp who pushed the social media backlash against Heard which has resulted in her being cancelled. Love her or loathe her, its largely women who are invested in trying to cancel Meghan Markle.

I don't think it's limited to women seeking retribution against men.

I think so? Unless it was proven he did that. Was it proven? I happen to believe he did exactly what I said above btw. He found the poor woman dead and freaked out about how it would effect him and his career. So he left her body there and went out that night and behaved like nothing happened.

Why do you believe it if it isn’t proven? What is your evidence?

HopingForTheBest25 · 04/08/2025 10:45

I haven't seen him in anything since The Ranch - I think his close friendship with Danny Masterson, the resurfacing of an old interview regarding a young Mila Kunis, plus association with Diddy, has probably affected his career already, without the 'need' to officially cancel. I doubt he's anyone's first choice of cast member rn.
If the public get the 'ick' for a celebrity, then it's game over.

'Cancel' as a concept, pisses me off. These are peoples lives and careers we are talking about - if you aren't a proven criminal, then you have a right to earn a living without other people calling for you to be cut off. Even if you are unlikeable or have opinions that other people disagree with!

I don't actually condemn famous people for not wanting to hash out their personal experiences with exes in the public domain. Someone like JLo shouldn't 'have' to talk about a relationship that ended probably 25 years ago or be condemned by association, esp an historic one. We cannot assume that every celebrity knows every aspect of another person's behaviour. We cannot assume they knew and didn't care.
I think the real problem is if they support known rapists etc.
I still think about the people who publicly supported Roman Polanski in full knowledge of what he did. Why would AK get cancelled but the celebs who gave RP a standing ovation, not be?
One of the issues with cancellation is that the 'rules' of who gets it and why are seemingly arbitrary.

If you weren't there YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENED. Believe what you want but it doesn't make it true.

True. That’s why I said I could easily believe that’s what happened. Maybe if he didn’t have such a long history of being a cunt I wouldn’t believe that’s what happened. It’s a bias against him maybe? I never liked Diddy so despite him only being found guilty of some of the charges against him I have no problem believing he’s guilty of all of it.

OriginalSkang · 04/08/2025 09:42

I thought he was "cancelled" after the letter too

EastGrinstead · 04/08/2025 09:18

Only those like @Firstholiday with their heads in the gutter heard of him in years.

MayaPinion · 04/08/2025 09:18

What a weird post. He hasn’t been in anything for years and I can’t imagine anyone caring much on what is mostly a UK chat forum. Do you have skin in the game, OP?

Cam1981 · 04/08/2025 09:15

If you want to “cancel “ him for being friends with Diddy then don’t we have to cancel :
Beyonce
Jay Z
J- lo
And all the other celebrities that have failed to denounce him and his behaviour

Please stop repeating this. It's a blatant lie and what you "believe" doesn't actually trump the truth.

Duckyfondant · 04/08/2025 08:57

He was a contentious character way back in his Punked days. Very easy to dislike. It seems to be his romantic partners that people find redeeming, for some reason.

I'm not sure there would be much point to a cancellation.

MustardGlass · 04/08/2025 08:50

I thought he was canceled after writing the letter of support for Danny Masterson.

I've not seen him in anything in years. Maybe if you stopped reading trashy news websites, you won't hear of him either.

Oh the judgement from someone on Mumsnet reading a thread with a celebrities name 😆
