What are you doing, where and age ish?

Feeling very down and lost and wondering what others are up to.

I’m mid 40’s, in the Algarve, sat in the garden, it’s very peaceful. Dh doing story in bed with Dd, he’ll fall asleep, i’ll go in in a bit and watch some tele. All around me is so beautiful, lifestyle amazing, from the outside it looks incredible…

How about you?

I'm lying on the sofa, DH and I were watching a film together but he's now gone up to bed while I wait till it's time to go and pick up DS2 from a party. Feeling sleepy 😴

What job? ❤️

It’s a bit niche so I can’t really say for fear of outing myself. But it’s true that if you love your job, you never really have to work. I just need it to pay me a bit more!!

LemograssLollipop · 01/08/2025 22:39

47, Antalya Turkey.
Trying to sleep as we are travelling home tomorrow after a week's holiday. Surrounded by almost packed cases. Can't decide to have air con on or off. It's been 37/38° and I'm looking forward to cooler weather at home. Dreading going back to work and childcare over the summer holidays.

Ahh OP I am so sorry to hear you’re having to deal with your child being so poorly. I spent over a year in hospital with my child followed by two years of living on tenterhooks and frequent visits back for check ups and treatment. I was such a deeply, deeply traumatised person. I developed so many unhealthy coping strategies and was heavily medicated by the doctor. I truly felt like I would never recover, and never feel happy again. As you say about yourself, I was a shell. However, this story is a happy one! Once it became clearer that my child would survive, but needed long term treatment, every person and their dog told me that ‘time’ would help heal me. I wanted to scream and punch and shout when I was told that. But, it was true. It feels important to add that whilst my child will never live outwith the shadow of the hospital, now that treatment has stopped and we’re in the ‘live with it’ stage, life has improved immeasurably. It’s taken me two years, and I know I still have healing to do, but I am SUCH a different person now. I am not medicated, I feel joy, I feel contentment. I allow myself moments of cautious optimism about the future. I would say I am now a happy person. I will always be a person with trauma, but I’m not a shell any more. I would say to anyone that whilst you’re in the depths of something horrific you cannot lift your head enough above water to catch your breath, but when calmer waters come, so does happiness and life seems good again. So, this is me telling you that yes, you can feel happy again. It may not feel that way but it is possible. We got told the most, most devastating things about our child yet we have found our way through to happiness. And I am a grade A worry wort, I have an anxiety disorder which predates children, and I’m still in a good place. It is possible and I will pray for you that you can find happiness and peace again x

So sorry you are in a similar place 😔 really hoping she improves

If it helps, my Dd was very ill from age 12 to 17. She's now mid 20s, done a degree, doing a job she loves and is 6 months away from the holiday of her dreams. Don't give up. Smile for them and 1 day it becomes natural again.

What a beautiful human thread…

I’m 44, in bed and hoping that our family break which starts on Sunday is restful and fun. We all need it. Have thoughts about needing a change at work, DD1 will go off to uni next year and feel change is coming. DH and I need a bit of a reset, but don’t know where to begin with that…

Sat on my end of the sofa, with my husband’s cat, surrounded by cardboard boxes as I’m moving house in 3 days.
Husband died 18 months ago and tomorrow, our adult children are coming over to say goodbye to their childhood home.
I have no real thoughts and millions of memories (I’m 66) but it’s time to turn the page and start again. I might be leaving but I’m lucky to have so much to take with me.

So sorry 💓 hope this new chapter is a happy one x

Just sat down with a cuppa, have been making a birthday cake for best friends husband who is 60 tomorrow. Going to be 60 myself next month, my first birthday without DH who recently passed away. Felt normal for the first time today for months, I think being distracted making the cake has helped. Amazon deliver driver has just given me The Madness of Grief by Rev Richard Cole’s which I’m hoping will help me get back to my old self.

I found that book more honest and helpful than the millions of platitudes given out by people. It wasn’t what I expected but it made me feel as though I could cope and even thrive. I hope that you find it too x

TianasFlight · 01/08/2025 22:18

34, currently in a hotel room at one of Disney's finest resorts in Florida, with my husband of 10 years and my wonderful son.

I actually feel quite down as well. We're having the most wonderful time but I can't help feeling guilty I'm enjoying a holiday my husband has paid for. I don't deserve to be here.

I left my toxic job/career very suddenly due to my mental health being absolutely destroyed and now I've no idea what I want to do. I feel so useless, and guilty because so many people would love to be in my position right now. I want to earn my own money and create my own success, not rely on my husband for everything.

I could create a whole new thread I know !

43, spent most of the evening contemplating how alone you can feel in a house full of people. Teenagers both in rooms with door shut as they have been for the majority of the day, husband doing his own thing.
All week long I count down for the weekend to get a break from work and when it comes I’m bored. 🫣😆

In bed, after an evening with a nice dinner (cooked by me) and a couple of glasses of wine. DH is yet to come through, DC is already in bed with DDog. This morning I did some work (dream job, some paid work and some unpaid work that is generated by the paid work!). This afternoon shopping and laundry.
Am 47, in south-west England, and I’m working hard to make the dream work. I am usually pretty content these days, but a favourite thing is to dream about what I might do in just a few years’ time…

What job? ❤️

On holiday in the Peak District with DH, DD, DS and MIL. DH and I have just been out for a meal and now we’re back at the lovely cottage all sat watching a film together. Home is a different matter though, where chronic illness blights my days at times.

I’m 49.

  1. Sitting in an inner city council flat, watching telly with the dog. Daughter is asleep. I've been single since her father changed his mind about us 7 years ago.

Life was not meant to be this- my family is a nice middle class professional one and my siblings have very different lives and nice homes and all that jazz- but I'm quite content, if I don't think too hard about it.

I love your username. We’d be friends Grin

Howmanycatsistoomany · 01/08/2025 22:03

Just turned 53, Normandy. Currently chilling on the sofa with a cuppa (been having migraines all week so alcohol is a no-no), trying not to stress about all the jobs I've got to do over the weekend. Could really do with taking a few weeks off work but I have the freelancer fear of taking time off.

frippit · 01/08/2025 21:56

63, laid in bed in our caravan near Abersoch just chilling, my husband finally managed to catch a sea bass today so just had it for tea.
Thinking about how to fit my daughter and her 4 little girls in when they arrive tomorrow, husband has been volunteered to sleep in the tent.
Son is arriving with his girlfriend and little boy at some point too but they're seasoned campers, so will bring their tent.

TheyreLikeUsButRichAndThin · 01/08/2025 21:53

35, on the sofa somewhere in England. Watching episode 2 of Destination X with DH. Had early dinner with the kids at the pub after a park trip. Did tie dye this morning so washing everyone’s newly dyed tops. I feel a bit meh too OP. Work tomorrow afternoon which is ad hoc over the summer so I’ve done it to myself as not necessary!
Sometimes I just want a quiet peaceful cosy life on the sofa but then I also want to do exceptional things like sail across the Atlantic and start a charity. But I love the sofa. I don’t think I’ll ever be content 😆

WonderingWanda · 01/08/2025 21:50

Mid 40's. Just spent a week in a tent with bickering dc. Cannot wait to gave a decent shower and crawl into a comfortable bed without being trapped by the sleeping bag...oh and the ensuite if I need a wee in the night!

hazelowens · 01/08/2025 21:48

Late 40's in bed where I have been all day as we were travelling from Scotland to Darlington, got stuck in a traffic jam for 2 hours at Scotch Corner, then got out the jam were about 15 miles to our destination and the car said nope I've had enough lights came on steering went heavy then started making a noise. Pulled over and called the RAC told them we had 2 children, a disabled female and another female. Car broke down at just after 6 and we were all finally at our destination at midnight. I have FND, fibromyalgia and arthritis in every joint in my body and all I have done today is sleep or just rest. Life wasn't meant to be as painful as this.

TheChosenTwo · 01/08/2025 21:46

Lying on the sofa with a full belly but feeling sad after finding out some shit news today about a hugely loved family member.
Have got a lovely weekend lined up so trying to focus on that but it’s not working.

Middlemarch123 · 01/08/2025 21:45

64, in bed with two of my three cats. Flitting between MN and watching Forsyte Saga on Netflix. Busy day working as a dog walker so fancied an early night. Have a mug of decaf tea and biccies, very settled, apart from one of the cats trying to sit on my neck!
