If your 15 year old was going to a party (supervised by parents at the house) how much alcohol would you allow them to take with them?

A 4 pack of Fosters lager shandy, or any other light beer under 3%. I would tell them not to drink more than one an hour, or anything else. I would let them take non-alcoholic beer or fruit cider too if there was an expectation they bring drinks for others.

Kids have to FAFO and I’d be glad it wasn’t in my house but at a trusted friend’s with adults around, rather than in a club on fresher’s week with strangers.

I would make the alcohol conditional on ringing the parents and asking permission first.

Same. Rather this than they sneakily do it. It’s about educating them you can’t stop it, so control it.

mamagogo1 · 31/07/2025 20:47

A bottle of premixed cocktail was my go to with mine, it was about 2.5% so even if who bottle is drunk they would not be drunk

bellamorgan · 31/07/2025 20:47

I was raised by the same my parents would rather I tried it under their supervision than turn 18 or even a young teen get drunk as a fart with friends and end up r’d or dead in a ditch because I had never had it or knew what I could handle.

A lot of my friends had parents who would swear blind their children never had sex or alcohol till legal. The fields tell a very different story.

cramptramp · 31/07/2025 20:47

None. Obviously.

BeMellowAquaSquid · 31/07/2025 20:47

I had an agreement with some mutual friends at sleepovers (at the mutual friends houses only) they could have a couple of alcopops if adults are there too. Otherwise it’s a no no.

simsbustinoutmimi · 31/07/2025 20:45

None. Do not encourage them.

Momtotwokids · 31/07/2025 20:45

None and you ask that question? What kind of parent are you?

Sprig1 · 31/07/2025 20:44

None, obviously.

Poonu · 31/07/2025 20:43

Zero

Fortunately it was covidy when my dc were this age so never had to contend with this 😂 but age 14/15 they were allowed a glass of fizz or a beer at a family occasion or something. At 17 eldest one was free’d from house arrest and I’d buy her 4 beers for a party - she’s pretty sensible and I always picked her and any friends up that needed a lift to make sure she was okay.
At 15, I’m not sure what I’d have done really. I was buying half bottles of vodka at that age because it was easy to acquire! Not so much these days unless it’s available in the house for them to nab so you either decide none (there will always be something for them to swipe at a party if they’re really determined) at all or an agreed amount - based on whether they’ve ever had a drink before and their reaction to it I suppose.

spoonbillstretford · 31/07/2025 20:43

At 15 it wasn't often but I'd swig neat vermouth at parties and smoke Consulate. DD2 only goes to a few parties a year. I was out drinking twice a week at sixth form college.

ZenNudist · 31/07/2025 20:43

As a parent of a soon to be 15yo I say none.

I recently left my son in on a Saturday night with his mate (whilst I went off to get pissed). I decided I better give him "a talk". I said:

  1. No nicking alcohol from my drinks cabinet
  2. If they did nick it absolutely don't water down what's left as you ruin it and I will know and be livid
  3. A sensible measure is 25cl to be drunk with mixer
  4. Reminded them of uncle so and so having his stomach pumped at 15 because he'd drunk too much
  5. Reminded him that too much alcohol is poison
  6. Reminded him his liver can't process alcohol like an adult

He told me they weren't going to drink. They don't seem to.

I have always offered him a taste of my drink. Just so he knows what it's like.

Also, I find it really odd that people are prepared to host a party of 15 year olds including alcohol. What happens if one of them drinks far too much and ends up in hospital? You're supposed to be in loco parentis, and at the very least you might find yourself having to explain yourself to two distraught parents, if not the police.

Alwaystired2023 · 31/07/2025 20:41

Oh god what wasn't I drinking at 15, agree that they will get it from somewhere if you don't provide.., some beers? Defo not the whole bottles of Jack Daniel's and vodka I was drinking

bellamorgan · 31/07/2025 20:41

A couple of low alcohol pre mixed cocktails / wkds

Teens will be drinking condoning it or not. I’d rather mine feel they can have an open and honest conversation about it so when eating out they may also have one drink in a restaurant as well.

Pringlebeak · 31/07/2025 20:37

I have a 15 year old and I've always made it clear to her that while I understand teens drink, it would be irresponsible of me to officially condone it. She accepts that as reasonable.

All that means in practice is that instead of her drinking what you have bought, which you can control, her & her friends club together and get a litre of vodka and have a go at that instead.

At 15 no more than a couple of cans of a premixed cocktail or cider would be my stance I think, on the condition I was dropping them off and picking them up.

AbzMoz · 31/07/2025 20:39

1-2 beers / alcopops, a couple of soft drinks, and a bag of crisps / sweets.
I’d make clear that they only drink what they’ve taken. I assume other parents / guests are being told the same thing?

Katemax82 · 31/07/2025 20:30

Definitely not 2 litres of white lightening..I did this aged 15 and it did not end well

Agree. I'd definitely recommend removing the mesh waste paper basket from the 15 year olds room after said party too...

spoonbillstretford · 31/07/2025 20:38

DD2 (16) tends to take a ready mixed cockail bottle ostensibly to share and drinks the whole lot herself. She is 5'10" and 10 stone though. It doesn't make her drunk or give her a hangover.

Ohdearwhatnow4 · 31/07/2025 20:32

I personally would rather have control and either buy alcohol pops or premixed drinks. But only a couple.

I completely agree. If you don’t let a 15 year old take something to a party, assuming the parents who are hosting the party will allow it, they will only get it from somewhere else.

I'm also in the none group. 15 is too young.
