Podcasts are Annoying

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2025 14:23

Its just radio 📻 😌
Don't get me started on every celeb and his dog starting one.
Also I assume most of them wouldn't make much money from doing it?
It's just a hobby. Some have so few listeners.
BBC Sounds are happy though to toss money at literally any Z list celeb to make one.
To think I used to admire the BBC compared to ITV etc..

I really don't get the point of podcasts. They invariably start with a load of boring rambling about random life events pertaining to the podcaster before the podcaster even starts on whatever it was they are podcasting about.

I avoid all of them now.

How are people so hard of thinking.

I really don't get the point of films. They invariably start with special effects and other random nonsense before the movie even gets going and you see the main actor.

Clearly nonsense. Why do posters feel they have to contribute to a thread when they know nothing about the topic? So many people have said there are podcasts about everything from ancient history to cricket and everything in between, but oh no, they're all "rambling about life events".

Maybe I will pop into a Love Island thread to tell people who enjoy that sort of thing that I don't get the point of that show. Doesn't matter that I've never seen an episode and no nothing about it, I can still waste their time pontificating.

Ive just tried looking and can't even see the options where it gives the total numbers.
I post regularly on BB , Strictly . TV dramas when I watched them live.
I like to moan on the threads like lots do here.
= why lots for LI.

Maybe you can find one that teaches you to speak pleasantly to people.

Yeah and I rarely look at peoples posting history..

LI threads esp previous ones are what keeps most of the posters watching.
FYI I prefer Big Brother..

I also listen in the car to podcasts as radio annoys me with the inane chatter from the hosts and I don't like listening to music.

You’re listening to the wrong ones. Obviously podcasts by Z-list celebs are going to be a bit crap. The best podcasts are those by experts in their field or interring friends who have a laugh and do good research on whatever it is they’re talking about. I find the celeb pods mostly a miss.

I am a massive podcast fan and listen to all sorts of content. Not a fan of the celebrity ones either. My latest discovery is one about Scottish myths and folklore, it's literally a woman talking into a microphone and sharing her knowledge. It's brilliant.

I don't know where people find the time to listen to them. I'd have to wear headphones, as I'm always dotting about at home doing stuff, but then I'm shutting out family and it seems hugely antisocial. When I'm dogwalking I like to be focused on doing that, listening to birdsong and with an ear out for any dog trouble. I always have DD in the car with me and would struggle to find something we're both interested in. My friend, who has a pre-schooler, must listen to stuff constantly, given she's always pushing podcasts at all of us in our friendship group. I would never say anything, but either that child has a mother who has her ears permanently plugged with ear buds or the child is having to listen to all sorts of inappropriate stuff.

I do like Uncanny, but that's about it.

I can’t stand podcasts or any form of audio speech type thing, including radio talk shows, as I have no attention span for them 😳. So YANBU although I understand other people enjoying them. I very rarely read or watch TV for the same reason unfortunately. I just cannot keep my mind on it. Music, however, allows my mind to drift as it wants!

Aquarius1234 · 03/08/2025 12:45

BertieBotts · 03/08/2025 12:32

Weird, I don't think I've ever come across an advert for a podcast, unless it was within another podcast anyway.

But I don't really watch "celeb reality TV" - are they being advertised there?

I him them advertised when listening to radio in car.
BBC sounds when I happen to watch Live TV. Or even in iplayer .
Just felt often recently.

I love podcasts, I listen to loads. Favourites include:

Uncanny
You’re Wrong About
If Books Could Kill
The Rest Is History
No Such Thing As A Fish
Morbid
Sounds Like A Cult
Stuff You Should Know
Betwixt The Sheets
Ologies With Alie Ward
After Dark
Last Podcast On The Left
The Casual Criminalist
The News Agents
American Hysteria
Cautionary Tales With Tim Harford

So in my opinion YABU, they’re not inherently annoying, you just happen to not like the ones you’ve tried (and that’s fine, do something else, problem solved)

ImogenBrocklehurst · 02/08/2025 17:46

Aquarius1234 · 02/08/2025 11:40

Some of them are self indulgent.
I can't stand hearing the adverts on radio for parenting ones. Joel Dommet and His Wife bla. Or any comedian talking about parenting. Yuk so boring.

Yet you’re willing to devote time to the self-indulgent, self-absorbed gen Zs who populate reality TV?

StMarie4me · 02/08/2025 14:04

They’re not compulsory you know…

Mimilamore · 02/08/2025 13:54

Yes ….. I’ve thought this lately. There are about 3 I like but some seem so cheap and cheerful and a vehicle for people to chat on about themselves!

TofuEater · 02/08/2025 13:17

Anything by Mariana Spring is excellent. The current one about a poor girl who died of cancer because her idiot influencer mother thought conventional medicine didn't work was both eye-opening and heartbreaking

Oh that’s on my lift but o worry I might find it too sad

JassyRadlett · 02/08/2025 13:29

Every medium has its self-indulgent programmes and presenters. Disliking podcasts in general because there are some topics where you find the presenters and the very targeted adverts annoying is a bit odd.

But overall - no one's making you listen, so why are you listening so much that you're annoyed?

GanninHyem · 02/08/2025 13:23

There's a really, really easy solution to this. Don't fucking listen to them.

TofuEater · 02/08/2025 13:17

LadyCankleOfGrantham · 02/08/2025 12:31

I rarely listen to the celeb ones. They’re largely boring. But the BBC Sounds investigative ones are excellent. I highly recommend listening to Stakeknife and Where is George Gibney. They both hit me like a ten tonne train

There are all types of podcasts on every single topic. It's like saying books are annoying.

There are loads of good science, history, literature ones.

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/08/2025 13:13

Love “just” radio! Far, far better than tv.
