Why did I drink 2 bottles of wine!

So, I was making a Sunday roast yesterday, opened a bottle of wine and before I knew it 2 had gone! This is not a regular occasion and don’t think I have ever done that before. It was over the course of about 6 hours but I am paying for it today.

can anybody else manage 2 bottles?

Say what? Are you ok? That makes no sense at all.

Absolutely! Are you okay for supporting this kind of behaviour!?

It all depends on other things like was this a one of. Do you drink everyday? If you can't go without atleast one a day you have a drink problem. People think drinking alot everyday makes you an alcoholic but it's not the case.

Binge drinking is a form of alcoholism. In medical terms we also consider it self harm. No sane person would put their body through 2 bottles of wine and think that's okay for their health, comes here looking for sympathy! What she needs is therapy to deal with whatever is possessing her to harm herself like that. And that a fact. Don't bother telling me that's judgemental, it ain't.

Sure I dont if that pleases you. I sure dont waste my liver that way.
Feeling annoyed about my honest comment? there's always 2 cheap bottles of wine, waiting for you, fill your boots! Lol

Oh dear…..

Way to go 👏 feel sorry for anyone who comes to you for a bit of support. I’m sure you felt that rush of superiority when typing your wonderful “advice” but I’m also sure the OP will see it for what it is. Bias judgement for self gratification.

Not at all, just facts, no need or reason to be judgemental. Don't really have time or space to sugarcoat anything in this life!
There's always therapy if that's what shes looking for! Unlike you, am honest and won't encourage bad behaviour like that, in the name of 'support'

TitaniasAss · 29/07/2025 07:51

I could drink two bottles but probably over about 8 hours. I would be pissed though and definitely throw up. Would probably be in bed the next day.

Well I’m pleased to report that when I’ve drunk a couple of bottles of wine in the past I’ve never once shat myself. I also didn’t become an alcoholic.

Hardly something to be proud of! As I clearly said. Each to theor own.
Reminds me of that phrase...to argue with a fool.... sure you can finish this for me

BlankBlankBlank14 · 29/07/2025 04:10

Elephant788 · 28/07/2025 21:21

It really doesnt matter. She's an alky. Period. That kind of drinking is what makes people shit themselves. I tried to think of a way to justify it, but failed miserably!🤣

You know nothing!

coxesorangepippin · 29/07/2025 02:47

Hope you're feeling better soon op 💐

TappyGilmore · 29/07/2025 01:09

I mean, it’s a lot but as a one-off I wouldn’t be too concerned. But the fact that you could do it
would make me wonder if it truly is a one-off as you obviously have a high tolerance for alcohol.

Definitely couldn’t do it myself. I’ve never tried but I suspect my limit would be one bottle in that time.

miraxxx · 29/07/2025 00:59

I find it very difficult to drink alone as I age. I have a well stocked bar and a wine fridge but it is very rare I drink without company. But there was a time I was drinkly secretly and fearing I was an alcoholic. I had joined a religion that forbade alcohol and it was my greatest pleasure to sneak a drink whenever I could. My alcoholism ended the moment I left the religion. Guilt can have perverse consequences.

It's lovely to have the roast on and have a few glasses Op. However two bottles alone is too much as you yourself realise and the knowing is the vital bit. Hope this thread helps you find an answer.

In a similar situation over a long meal with friends, I could go a bottle tops.

ImGoneUnderground · 29/07/2025 00:23

JudgeBread · 27/07/2025 15:01

I mean as long as you're not doing it every Sunday why not? I could drink two bottles of wine over six hours, I'd be reminiscent of a cave troll the next day if I did, but that never stopped me in my twenties lmao.

Inb4 people come in and start accusing you of being a rampant alcoholic. Didn't you know on Mumsnet you're a raging alchie if you don't get horribly squiffy from a single teeny tiny glass of fizz?

I can go months without a single alcoholic drink, (I think I could live in a pub and never have a drop (looked for a 'halo' emoji but couldn't find one, lol..... ) but agree that one glass / bottle can turn into 2 very easily, somehow especially starting earlyish in the day ......don't beat yourself up about it because of this one occasion, (unless it does become 2 bottles every time, which by what you say, it doesn't). I like the term 'next day cave troll' to describe a hangover - (maybe chuck a few glasses of water in between), and it was wine, not vodka / spirits, over a fairly long period. This one occasion doesn't make you a raging alkie🌹

BlankBlankBlank14 · 28/07/2025 20:40

Not even at a party!! Shocker 😳!!

Would it have been ok at a party then? Or better?

Exactly, why is it ok at a party? She was at her own party of 1 and had a great time so do fuck off dears

Batmam · 28/07/2025 23:37

OP if some wine went in with the gravy then it’s not even two full bottles so cut yourself some slack. I did the same Christmas Day and enjoyed every sip (…if not my bad head the next day!)

mightbetheone · 28/07/2025 22:55

Elephant788 · 28/07/2025 20:25

Enjoyed that did you.... although your liver won't thank you for it. There is no such thing as one off as far as liver poisoning is concerned. The fact you can drink 2 bottles, by yourself when not even at party, that's dangerous behaviour and probably you're an alcoholic. You obviously expecting this sort of comment anyway, so no shocker there, otherwise why would you come on here and say such unreasonable thing! Are you a mum, hope your kids are grown and have flown the nest!

But..ahem...each to their own.

I can’t imagine being quite so confidently ignorant. I suppose it must be nice in a way. Being so dumb but also so sure of yourself.

whatsit84 · 28/07/2025 21:52

I reckon a bottle or so over 6 hours would be doable with no real next day effects, but think I would be on the verge of being a bit sick after two, were you?

lackofvitamindd · 28/07/2025 21:46

I had 7 bottles with 2 friends the other evening. I was fine the next day but…. I doubt I’ll drink again for a month or so…. Depends on the context

Coldtoesinthebed · 28/07/2025 21:44

Aw lord worst platform if you have more than 3 alcoholic beverages throughout the year you are 100% alcohol dependent 😂 though I personally don’t drink more than one glass alone there are lots of things people aren’t taking into account. First and foremost it’s not a regular occurrence, were there family around maybe also drinking? Also depends on what wine you were drinking bearing in mind wine can be anywhere between 5% - 14%? I could easy drink 2 bottles of wine at 5% if it wasn’t a school night, over 6 hours, especially if there was a full meal in between, and no I am not an alcoholic 😂

Talkwhilstyouwalk · 28/07/2025 21:42

It's happened now. You got carried away, it's easy to do this with wine after a few glasses and I've done it myself on occasion. We live and learn.....as long as it doesn't become a habit!

This. ^ The apologists on this thread are startling. You couldn't make it up!

I pray for the health (and the liver) of some posters on this thread. 🙏

The ‘apologists’ know the facts - mainly from personal experience. Either their own or close friend or family. Mine is from a SiL who drank on average two bottles of wine a night for over twenty years. It was only when the cumulative effects kicked in that she had any symptoms and by then it was too late. As a one off two bottles of wine doesn’t mean you’re an alcoholic. At all.

Rosscameasdoody · 28/07/2025 21:37

SunnyPrague · 28/07/2025 20:42

Ten units per bottle = 20 units in one sitting.

NHS guidelines say 14 per week, spread out over the week.

This is classed as ‘hazardous’.

Only if it’s a regular occurrence. Alcohol damage is cumulative and you can drink to excess over many years before you feel the effects of it. Not saying it’s right, but as a one off it’s fine.
