To think The West is morally bankrupt

Can anyone name a political establishment of a defined country that has not inflicted hardship on another country or sections of the people it rules over. I say political establishment because it is not the people of most countries that cause war or hardship on others. So any country that has never caused hardship to another country in history? It's an interesting one.

Every country is morally bankrupt in the world apart from North Macedonia, who are cool. Apart from giving Genghis Khan to the world, but that can be overlooked as his daddy was distant and that impacted on his emotional development.

I don't think the West is any more morally bankrupt than other countries (or groups of). Asia's pretty shocking. South America too. Racists and rapists abound in leadership. Ditto Russia and China who have both got the same delusions of grandeur as the UK and US, they just haven't been as successful at their wealth generation and exploitation as the West was. History is littered with similar stories.

well "the west" encompasses many countries (usa, canada, australia, new zealand, as well as western europe, add to that countries like finland and sweden who have western views) lots of room to wrongly spread blame.
the palestine/israel and generally middle east situation has been going on so long (biblical times) i highly doubt the entire gdp of canada would make a drop of difference.
57% of the WORLD pollution is caused by the following countries china 30%, united states 15%, india 12% and russia 7%. with 97 countries like brazil, peru, africa the old ussr states accounting for the most plastic pollution. take note north america (usa and canada are very low in this regard).
climate change...much of the trauma and damage is linked to aging and not upgraded infrastructure, population growth in certain centers without upgraded city drainage, modernization of bridges, and aging concrete. people who think living on flood plains (or building children's summer camps) in zones which have 200+ years of recorded floods is a good idea, or building without adequate regulations.
i will not accept blame! everyone tries to do the best they can during their lifetime. but some places (countries) make the same mistake over and over again and that is not my "fault" my parents "fault" or my great grand parent's "fault".

I don't know about West specifically but it does make me wonder if democracy has failed as a concept. And capitalism isnt looking too good either. I have no solution! Just saying...

By far the largest emitter, China's emissions (a third of all global emissions, incidentally)stem from its large population, industrial production, and heavy reliance on coal. It's the World's Governments and Ruling Parties that are morally bankrupt.

They exploit, deceive, rob and gaslight their own citizens and the citizens of the countries they steal.

It's been going on for centuries.

It's not any better now than it was 1000 years ago.

Moral bankruptcy is universal; North, South, East and West. We're all guilty of it in all manner of ways, on all manner of scales.

The sins of the West are likely much more apparent to those of us living in the West because we're bombarded with them on TV and social media 24/7.

Yep. Also the West consumes the most and wastes the most, which is hardly surprising. But everyone is so quick to say oh but what about that country or I had nothing to do with colonisation. Infuriating 🤬

You’ve missed the point entirely. None of those countries have caused the level widespread damage on a global level that has brought on mass displacement of people, starvation, climate change and endless wars for land and resources.

But The West isn't the only place pumping out Carbon.

The West isn't committing all the human rights violations happening

The West encompasses some of the "best" countries in the world for happiness, green activity, women's rights...

Look how Afghan women are treated. The Chibok girls in Nigeria. The rape culture in South Africa. The Rwandan genocide. The Yazidi. The Uyghurs. I could go on and on.

I agree with you op, it’s been like this since colonisation (there have been abhorrent empires throughout history don’t get me wrong) but the lasting effect of the OG coloniser is still being felt today and it’s causing some of the most devastating human catastrophes of modern fine.

For the other poster saying OP is wrong, start at the East India company and you will end up at the door step of the current issues laid out by OP.

Agree. And don't acknowledge the mess they make interfering in other countries. So many issues in other countries are due to colonialisation and creating new borders due to their own greed. Yet still think they're superior.

It's after midnight where I am, so I am going to bed, but the West is not the problem.
