I can't get this song out of my brain by Chappel Roan.
I keep playing it, does anyone else?

I went to a friends party recently and they had a live band, they were great. But, when the band finished they brought a Karaoke machine out. There was a group of little girls singing it. I thought that was awful. To them it’s just a song they like, they don’t know what it’s actually about. It made me very sad.

I don't think there is anything wrong with the lyrics at all. Which bit exactly are you offended by?

When I was about 9-10 - I was singing - 'i wanna sex you up'......without really understanding what it meant - so pink pony club is definitely a societal upgrade

Let’s Talk About Sex - Salt and Pepper
Relax - Frankie
Pappa Don’t Preach - Madonna
Let’s get Physical- Olivia Newton John
Sexual Healing - Marvin Gaye

Twas ever thus

I just googled their lyrics. Gross.

Oh god wore than gross! And to top it all the last part about children

Branleuse · 28/07/2025 20:20

I love chappell. My fave is the giver.

NoNameisGoodEnough · 28/07/2025 19:50

DD and I have just got tickets to see her in Edinburgh. I am beyond excited. I'm pretending it's for DD but it's really for me 😂

Kaleidescope is a beautiful song.

AmyDuPlantier · 26/07/2025 21:17

Nope. She is as punchable a person as I think I’ve ever seen. Nails down a blackboard.

Jeez is that an expression that you think is ok to use on anyone. A punchable person 😱

elgreco · 28/07/2025 19:28

I think it combines the risqué element of a strip club and finding your tribe element of a gay bar. Both lines are in the song; dancing in heels on stage and boys and girls being queens.I think she's amalgamated both worlds, it would be a fairly dull song if she was just telling her mum she was going to a pub with some gay mates.
She'd hardly be wailing "what have you done?" And likewise it would just be tacky rather than spicy if it was about stripping.

Puppalicious · 28/07/2025 18:17

I didn’t get stripper from the lyrics, I definitely get finding yourself in a gay bar and dancing with joyful abandon vibes. Also I think she does sound like Kate bush, especially the first sound I heard, good luck babe

Chocolatestain · 28/07/2025 18:02

I was in the car with DH the other day and this came on the radio. He looked all confused and said ‘I really don’t get this song. Why is she singing about a big Pony Club?’ He thought it was about a large branch of the Pony Club (or possibly a club for big ponies)🤦🏻‍♀️🤣

ChandrilanDiscoDroid · 28/07/2025 13:53

No. It wasn't. There's a Pink Pony strip club in Atlanta, which is not where she's from. And she has explicitly said it's not about the strip club with that actual name.

It's about her experience of the gay clubs in West Hollywood and how liberating that was for her. The club is a gay club that employs go-go dancers, not a strip club.

There’s a strip club in Springfield, Missouri that was called Pink Pony when she was growing up.

Roan responded with: "My 'Pink Pony Club' song is literally inspired by a strip club in Springfield. It used to be called Pink Cadillac, but now it’s Centerfolds. The building used to be all hot pink. They had neon signage and it was so beautiful. I remember growing up and passing it because I used to go to Hickory Hills (Country Club). I always adored it and wanted to go in there, but didn’t realize it was a strip club."

who’s been likened to Kate Bush? That singer of pink pony club!?? Absolutely NOT. 😂😵‍💫 . I don’t get the hype about her songs - when it comes on the radio - I don’t change the station but it’s not a song I/my kids play. To each their own tho.

Yeah I did a double take at that too! There is only a handful of artists who could realistically be likened to Kate Bush and she ain’t one of them. I think she’s certainly talented, but she’s a million miles away from Kate Bush in every way. And that’s not an insult, just a fact. Even if people think she’s as good as Kate Bush or better, which is their prerogative, the two women aren’t remotely comparable.

InterIgnis · 26/07/2025 21:09

The Pink Pony was the name of the strip club in her hometown.

I was singing ‘pink folded glove’ for months until my 10’year old corrected me 😆

I thought you were going to complain about little girls merrily singing a song which is seems to be about being a stripper (this happened at our school disco). Song's based on a strip club. Not ideal song for 10/11yos but they seem to think it's about actual pink ponies!

MrsEverest · 28/07/2025 04:30

It’s catchy.

I’m 45 and didn’t know it was about a stripper. I was imagining my little pony etc.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 28/07/2025 00:36

I love it and the 4 and 5 year olds I teach love it too. We play it every day at someone's request. Although a parent did say to me that she was a bit surprised to hear her daughter singing about a lesbian strip club. I just pretended I didn't know that context. To be fair the kids think it's it's about pink ponies, and they love the 'baby girl' line too. They often bring the toy babies over to the ponies and sing the baby girl line to the baby and mostly dance with pink ponies for the chorus. It's so cute and innocent.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 28/07/2025 00:28

@ChilliChoco but she's just having fun, on stage in her heels..

Alwaysthehost · 28/07/2025 00:02

I had never heard of it until a few weeks ago when I volunteered to play trumpet in a marching band at pride parade and was handed the music for it. Good fun.

My daughter is the same. It's pretty catchy.

Read this post half an hour or so ago and I’ve just come back to say thanks for the ear worm… NOT! I’m sorting out the kitchen after dinner and realised I’m still bloody singing it 🤣

Vodkamartini3olives · 27/07/2025 19:24

Hot to go is even better

Daftypants · 27/07/2025 17:50

catchy and I keep singing it 🤣
I do really like “ good luck babe “ too

Caggy90 · 27/07/2025 17:48

I have been power cleaning to this today thanks to this thread. Still love it. My mum was a huge 80s Madonna fan and my dad loved Kate Bush so for me this is a bit of a love child between their synthy beats and high notes.

Didn’t realise it’s been covered a fair bit already, including by some big names. Usually the marker of a true banger.
