Malnourished starving children in Gaza

babyproblems · 26/07/2025 06:42

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

Proof? And I don't mean a Hamas source?

As you are asking for proof, please can you provide us with 3 seperate sources that confirm that there is no starvation/famine in Gaza? And let’s add another couple of sources that UN run schools are indoctrinating children. Just to make sure we aren’t straying too far from the facts.

PinkBobby · 31/07/2025 11:53

@Featherruffler But this isn’t just random blokes in the pub making these comments. They’re members of parliament. They have power and influence. They don’t automatically represent the views of the people of Israel but they have a platform from which to spread these views/legitimise war crimes. People in power help shape the narrative and the narrative they are going for is very concerning.

“Gaza will be entirely destroyed” as a result of an Israeli military victory, and that its Palestinian population will “leave in great numbers to third countries”
“No one in the world will allow us to starve 2 million people, even though it might be justified and moral in order to free the hostages.”
both finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich

“The government is racing ahead for Gaza to be wiped out,” Eliyahu told Haredi radio station Kol Barama. “Thank God, we are wiping out this evil. We are pushing this population that has been educated on ‘Mein Kampf.'”
“There’s no hunger in Gaza,” he said. “But we don’t need to be concerned with hunger in the Strip. Let the world worry about it.”
“there are no uninvolved civilians”
Heritage Minister Amichay Eliyahu (who also said dropping a nuclear bomb on Gaza was ‘an option’)

Israeli’s have one common goal - “erasing the Gaza Strip from the face of the earth.”
Deputy Knesset speaker Nissim Vaturi

[Gazans are] an entire nation out there that is responsible… This rhetoric about civilians not aware, not involved [in the October 7 onslaught] — it’s absolutely not true.” Isaac Herzog PM of Israel

“We have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are
fighting human animals and we are acting accordingly"

  • Yoav Gallant, Israeli Defense Minister

Now these are from various points across the last couple of years and some came shortly after the horrific acts of 7/10. Some may feel that that is a good enough reason to show such hatred/anger. My issue is that they don’t seem to differentiate between Hamas and the general Gazan population. The narrative supports the idea that they can destroy all of Gaza’s homes and infrastructure, wipe out many innocent lives (even if it’s just children and you believe all adults are somehow complicit) and that’s okay because it destroys Hamas,

Yes, Hamas have committed horrendous acts in the past and are no doubt still doing so (hard to know exactly they are doing what as journalists are banned from Gaza). But I don’t think that automatically means Israel gets the green light to raze the whole place to the ground and see innocent lives as simply cost of war against Hamas. There should be uproar when western democracies in particular have little to no regard for innocent lives, having put ourselves on a pedestal and made democracy the exportable, gold standard of ruling. We have to hold the Israeli government accountable including when its members make very concerning comments relating to a group of innocent people. Of course, the way Hamas operate means that just destroying all of Gaza and all its citizens would make life easier for Israel. But that means a huge number of innocent people are killed in the process. If we say that’s okay, what stops Russia bombing Ukraine and just taking all its territory?

Hamas are obviously not the good guys. Hopefully we can all agree that. But the Israeli government isn’t acting like the good guys either and I fear that their rhetoric and military tactics are only playing into the hands of Hamas, helping with recruitment and prolonging this war.

Peace could be possible within a generation or two.

Well done to the 10,000 Israeli citizens including 300 IDF soldiers protesting for a ceasefire.

I think a lot of the WhatsApp torture videos shared between IDF soldiers will be leaked, now other countries are pushing against Bibi, other soldiers will stand up against him.

So because something didn't happen in one part of the world...it can't possibly be happening in another part of the world?

What I’m saying is that peace will never be possible while the children of both sides are being indoctrinated against the other. Do you agree?

Charlie Kirk is a right-wing pro-Trump activist who thinks that abortion is murder with no exceptions for rape who has pedalled anti-semitic conspiracy theories such as the Great Replacement. He can fuck right off.

It is quite eye opening that Charlie Kirk is potentially meant to be equal in value in this argument to UN reports, NGO reports (like MSF or HRW) or first hand accounts from medics who have have worked in Gaza.

I don’t remember, when the Provisional IRA were carrying out their bombing campaign in Britain, British schoolchildren being taught that Irish people or Catholics want to kill them.

So because something didn't happen in one part of the world...it can't possibly be happening in another part of the world?

If personal abuse is all you have to counter me, then it’s not me being daft.

When people do daft things, they are being daft. Fact. Comparing the British-Irish conflict to the Israeli-Palestinian is DAFT.
So many differences between the two.

Letstheriveranswer · 31/07/2025 07:35

I haven't read the whole thread to preserve my mental health, so this may have already been mentioned..........in the last few days it has come out that two of the main pictures used were of children who had other serious medical conditions affecting food absorption. Osama al-Rakab was already evacuated by Israel in June and is now in hospital in Italy receiving the treatment he needs.

And the NY Times have quietly amended their articles to admit that Mohammed Zakaria al-Mutawaq, has a preexisting medical condition that impacts his appearance.

In the meantime however those images have gone around the world to cause hate.

And this happens every bloody time, a story comes out, everyone jumps to blame Israel, and a few days later it turns out that it wasn't the case after all, but the news has moved in and the damage is fine, which was the intention at the outset.

I have no doubt that there is hunger and the aid distribution blockages have to be resolved - containers of food have meanwhile gone off and been destroyed while the UN argued about not getting involved with GHF. Hopefully the airdrops that have started will help.

But it doesn't serve the people of Gaza to cry wolf. It just makes it hard to know what is truth and easy to dismiss things as 'just another fabrication to smear Israel and the Jews'.
Meanwhile Gazan's who protest against Hamas are being tortured and murdered by Hamas, there are plenty of reports of that but nobody complains about that!
Likewise with the Druze in Syria, those poor people are being massacred, and women and children kidnapped, and there is no outrage on Mumsnet because Israel can't be blamed (until they bomb to protect the Druze and then there are complaints).

KimberleyClark · 31/07/2025 07:34

Featherruffler · 30/07/2025 19:17

Jews are teaching their children that Palestinians want to kill them. Palestinians teach their children that they have to kill Jews. Can you even comprehend the difference??

The famine and hunger in Yemen, Syria, Afghanistan etc..is also man made. Just so you know.

Yes you are right of course. And Mali and Myanmar and pretty much every other place at risk of famine today.

juggleit · 31/07/2025 04:33

Letstheriveranswer · 26/07/2025 08:44

The food is actually sitting inside Gaza but the problem seems to be in distributing it...people are desperate and start looting, it's not safe for lorry drivers to drive it in, Hamas attacks people trying to get aid and if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing.

Hamas are obstructing everything because they want to deliver it but then they steal it and sell it at high prices.

There are plenty of videos from inside Gaza of people clearly stating that Hamas are fully responsible for their misery.

It's very complex and the situation is catastrophic.

Having said that, there has been so much use of AI imaging and pictures from other conflicts and attributed to being pics from Gaza, that it's hard to know what is and isn't truth. Plus all the previous times we were told there was famine, and there wasn't, and even the UN finally admitted there wasn't. When the hostages were released every single man (not many women were out) in the Gazan crowds looked very well fed, clean and with fresh haircuts - and that was after we were previously told there was famine.

I hope it all ends soon.

Meanwhile I will wait for this thread to go down the inevitable route....

100% THIS!

One of the most objective point of views I have read about the current situation in Gaza.

The whole conflict plays into the hands of the Hamas play book
‘Hate the nasty Jews’

The suffering of these people is horrific but I don't believe it is 100 % the responsibility of Israel and to think that it is is ignorant and lacks any critical thinking.

Hamiltonfan · 31/07/2025 03:45

Just leaving this here. How on earth are the Israelis (who have a very similar mindset to westerners) meant to deal with this mindset, never mind live in peace next door to it x.com/LizaRosen0000/status/1949856026947129671?t=_4uVLjuy0pTNn4ucxjzt2Q&s=19

It’s rather the other way around. I never heard Jews stating that Palestinians (even babies) deserve to die. On the other hand if you talk to Palestinians about what they think of the Jews….
You can regularly see 4-5 year-old Palestinian little children in videos, dressed up in military uniforms, holding machine guns and chanting anti-Jewish slogans. Total brainwashing from a young age! Interestingly enough, you never see small Jewish children dressed up like soldiers and brandishing weapons around.
So what are you even talking about? 😕

Yep they teach this in the UNRWA schools.

Just to counter argue, and show you the other side of the story. But listen to it from start to finish and don’t just dismiss it as Israeli propaganda without giving your full attention.

Now I know you're just stirring the pot 😂
Whilst I am happy to listen to a counter argument, Charlie Kirk is not a legitimate source of anything. It does provide an understanding that was lacking in this thread before that you'd put him up as an acceptable 'other side'.
Charlie " women should abandon careers and education to “submit to a godly man” and raise “more children than you can afford.” Kirk 😂
Charlie "white privilege is a myth and a racist lie" Kirk

Or is it a different Charlie KirK?

Letstheriveranswer's post is ccompletely correct. There is a massive amount of aid in Gaza not being distributed. It's just that the truth doesn't fit some people's worldview.

I have seen pictures of starving children on the knees of mothers who, put it this way, definitely aren't. What is going on?

You do know that fat people can still starve? It's not all about calories. It's also vitamins, minerals and protein that you don't get from broken down fat deposits. Even a morbidly obese person would starve to death if they didn't eat.
There are some absolutely disgusting opinions on this thread. I can't see how anyone can think this situation is ok. Israel are completely to blame. Saying it's fake because the parents aren't stick thin is a moronic thing to say

Genocide being reported day after day

What on earth does this sentence even mean? Genocide is being reported? Reported by whom? Reported to who? How do you report genocide? It makes no sense

Makes sense to me.
More and more experts, human rights organisations (Israeli and foreign ) and politicians from democratic, western countries are reporting the Gaza war as a genocide or ethnic cleansing (which is a category of genocide per the legal definition)
