Malnourished starving children in Gaza

babyproblems · 26/07/2025 06:42

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

Lettheriveranswer your post sickens me.
How can you waste your breath trying to explain this away.
There are children starving to death.
Do you think those 3 year olds kidnapped people from a rock concert?
I'm ashamed to be human sometimes.

Lettherivranswer was a well balanced response. It was educated and fair.
What is sickening about it?

It's right to have a healthy scepticism. The Reuters article - once you move past the headline - also says the basis of the USAID report's claims are in doubt.
Likewise the CNN article touches on the complexities involved. There are definitely not enough aid distribution points, 4 for a population of that size is not enough. However there must also be enormous logistical issues in setting up more.

Nevertheless, as you say, something needs to shift because of the risk and human suffering involved, there has been too much already.

We will have to disagree on Israel being primarily culpable. I will always maintain that Israel is in a nightmare of a situation where they are between a rock and a hard place, and many people will criticise them no matter what, just for existing. Which makes any dialogue very difficult because the old tropes just start being thrown around. And none of us know what's really going on because of so much disinformation.

That being said, I loathe certain members of the current government, and I detest any extremism on either side. However I won't engage in further debate on this as these threads always turn into a hatefest.

👏 👏

You can try and take the moral high ground, as much as some of you like. Snarky general comments about posters being ashamed of themselves, isn't going to do anything to help what's going on. It's easy to judge from the comfort of your own home. When you are presented with conflicting sources and haven't taken the time to research the conflict, genocide is the quick fire answer. I'm not going to defend that on yet another thread, so I will bow out.

Lots more aid got in during the ceasefire. So we need to keep up the pressure for that. Unfortunately there are vested interests on both sides who don't want it.

What pressure? Where?

clearveil · 26/07/2025 09:21

Its horrifying, I'm seeing images of clearly staving parents holding their starving children and its devastating, many of these children now need specialist care and nutrition before they can even start eating normally again from what I understand. I feel so powerless and disgusted with what man can do to his fellow man, to little children.

I'm sorry but, in relation to the current starvation crisis, Israel's primary culpability is really beyond all reasonable doubt. USAID have found no evidence to support the notion that Hamas are to blame.

https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/usaid-analysis-found-no-evidence-massive-hamas-theft-gaza-aid-2025-07-25/

When the head of GHF resigned in protest at the end of May, he heavily implied Israel's blameworthiness and his word - from one of Israel's biggest partners and allies nonetheless, were gravely concerning:

"it is clear that it is not possible to implement this plan while also strictly adhering to the humanitarian principles of humanity, neutrality, impartiality, and independence, which I will not abandon"

https://www.cnn.com/2025/05/26/middleeast/gaza-humanitarian-foundation-aid-resigns-intl-hnk

And even if you feel like you're probably right, the catastrophe that might follow is not worth the risk of being wrong. Relief needs to happen urgently.

The food is actually sitting inside Gaza but the problem seems to be in distributing it...people are desperate and start looting, it's not safe for lorry drivers to drive it in, Hamas attacks people trying to get aid and if anyone gets shot in the violent chaos Israel get blamed, so they want the UN to take responsibility for getting it to distribution centres but the UN are refusing.

Hamas are obstructing everything because they want to deliver it but then they steal it and sell it at high prices.

There are plenty of videos from inside Gaza of people clearly stating that Hamas are fully responsible for their misery.

It's very complex and the situation is catastrophic.

Having said that, there has been so much use of AI imaging and pictures from other conflicts and attributed to being pics from Gaza, that it's hard to know what is and isn't truth. Plus all the previous times we were told there was famine, and there wasn't, and even the UN finally admitted there wasn't. When the hostages were released every single man (not many women were out) in the Gazan crowds looked very well fed, clean and with fresh haircuts - and that was after we were previously told there was famine.

I hope it all ends soon.

Meanwhile I will wait for this thread to go down the inevitable route....

Hamas are playing the world with the lives of their own and Israel's women, and children. They seem to be a death cult. They know exactly what they are doing in the media. When they returned the Bibas family in pieces after straggling them...there was no deep condemnation. How tight is their grip on the media narrative. It's like big brother. Hamas says and many in the world listens. Free Gaza from Hamas. Free Gazans from Hamas. Listen to the voices of Gazan people NOT Hamas. Read up on how much aid is going into Gaza and then ask....who is taking it? Perhaps the fat terrorists?

I agree with the above. I can't believe how low some of the posters on Mumsnet will sink, to justify what is being done to these poor innocent children.

feetlikeahobbit · 26/07/2025 09:16

There is no justification for starving a population.

Incorrect, many members of this forum, are able to keep their emotions in check and debate without getting personal. They are also able to separate fact from fiction, and not take everything at face value.

Every single post about Gaza you’re there, saying it’s all fake.

So, what actual ways of guaranteeing help are there?

Lots more aid got in during the ceasefire. So we need to keep up the pressure for that. Unfortunately there are vested interests on both sides who don't want it.

RainSoakedNights · 26/07/2025 09:09

Tfmrhelpafterwards · 26/07/2025 09:04

At least it’s something though and it gives a clear message to the world if we help then others will hopefully too

The only thing that will help is action being taken against Israel. Ending arms sales, sanctions, and enacting the international warrants for the lesders’ arrests.

Head of controversial US-backed Gaza aid group resigns, citing concerns over independence and impartiality | CNN

The head of a new aid distribution program for Gaza, backed by the US and Israel, has resigned after weeks of controversy, citing concerns over impartiality and urging Israel to allow more aid into the blockaded enclave.

There have been so many images out of Gaza that have taken my breath away with their sheer awfulness. Some will shout that there are other wars and why are we focused on this one, and claim there’s sinister intent. Perhaps, as parents, this war reflects all war and its impact on women and children in particular. I also felt the same about Ukraine, and about the kidnapped girls in Chibok. Sheer helplessness and a kind of grief.

It is disgusting. I read a lot of ‘Hamas’ in a PP and sure that is a factor but the most significant one is surely the country blocking aid and then murdering children and families who then try to access the little that is allowed. It’s a shocking, despicable war crime.

yes, that countries are Egypt and Iran.
