Malnourished starving children in Gaza

The photos that appeared this morning on my news updates of mothers holding their children, dying of starvation and extreme malnutrition in Gaza have absolutely broken my heart. I am not particularly news focused, of course I’ve followed it all but this morning it has stopped me in my tracks and took my breath away. As a mother of a 3yo DS who is sleeping peacefully in his bedroom, whilst we have a fridge full of food downstairs and a life of peace, I feel so sorry that those poor mothers and children are living this hell so undeserved and also so so lucky we have the peace we do…
I don’t really know what the point of my post is; I suppose I’m screaming When Will This End inside and want to tell everyone to not take the freedom and peace we have for granted; use your right to vote and use your privilege to make informed choices that steer the world away from conflict towards peace…

Sending a handhold to all the mothers’ whose lives are not being lived in peace and whose children are suffering 🕊️💔

Oh I don't disbelieve their are starving children but any I have seen I have noticed they have also had underlying medical conditions. Absolutely tragic obviously.

But again...has a famine been declared? On the brink of famine for months but funnily enough never actually happened...

Just like in October 2023 they were hours away from running out of water. Now I'm no scientist but I'm guessing humans can't survive for 21 months without water?

Are you a doctor? I am, and I can’t diagnose medical conditions from an image on the news.

We are allowed to question things surely?

I wonder if you would be posting so coldly if you saw images of starving Israeli babies. I expect some deep-seated humanity would make an appearance.

QOrion · 26/07/2025 20:02

Haaretz: An Israeli newspaper with headlines like ‘The Mathematics of Starvation: Why Aid Can’t Fix the Lethal Shortage of Food in Gaza’ and ‘Israelis Are Even Calling Holocaust Survivors Antisemitic’ (Opinion piece). I’m sure they also represent other viewpoints. I respect the leadership of Haaretz for not having tunnel vision, and for showing humanity.

I am not anti-Israel. Frankly, I was taught at school and at church that God promised Israel a land of its own but as an adult reluctantly came to the conclusion that the formation of the Israeli state was dubious morally and legally. However, it exists and we aren’t going back to a time when it didn’t. It’s not happening. However, until the Palestinian grievance is acknowledged and dealt with, I don’t see how Israel can have lasting peace.

And what did the Bibas babies do wrong?

Why are the bibas babys lives worth the lives 50-100 gazan babies each?

Every death is a tragedy particularly children's deaths. Why are the bibas babies worth a trigger of a genocide while hundreds of thousands of gazan babies should just be taken a collateral damage?

BeFirmHedgehog · 26/07/2025 19:52

I agree OP. It’s absolutely sickening. Shame on anybody that justifies starving children to death.

Some of us want Gaza to be free of Israel. France is already proposing to accept Palestine as a legitimate and independent state. I think at least 200 British MPs have written a letter asking for the same. Keir has ignored it for now and Trump is here. But it's just a matter of time.

Let’s hope.

Here’s an interview for you with a British army officer who knowns what he’s talking about and explains why some in the west don’t fully support Israel, therefore fuelling the anti-Israel rhetoric in the media and among the public.

Thank you - I’ll watch this in a min. Quick question - what do you mean when you say he ‘knows what he’s talking about’?

Hopefully the clip will help me understand the argument but I feel like anti-Israel (in terms of its government and army) rhetoric or sentiment is fuelled by what Israel is doing and is therefore justifiable (as long as it is based on their actions and not any other factors e.g antisemitism).

Many members of this forum, are able to keep their emotions in check and debate without getting personal. They are also able to separate fact from fiction, and not take everything at face value

Sensible as ever, @Dangermoo

Unfortunately I've never felt this is an especially good place to discuss the matter because the competition as to who's most upset/distraught/tearful rapidly takes over from consideration of some very complex issues

Strange, too, that atrocities elsewhere never attract the same attention, but there you go

…ah there it is , the sneering dismissive tone spoken by the genocide denier.

Atrocities elsewhere are condemned by our government and by the international community, so no-one has to rile-up against unreasonable arguments.
No where else gets away with what Israel does and still has such a strong core of support saying "it's ok, it's their right to do this". Most countries and their press condemned Russia and the Taliban and Assad etc. No one on Mumsnet comes on and says that the Western media are making it up, it's not so bad, they actually deserve it for the Ukrainian people or the civilians in Afghanistan or Syria. It's only Israel that can never be criticised under any circumstances and every single one of them is a walking angel with pristine morals and no flaws unlike everyone in Gaza who is basically a liar. Even the neonates are crisis actors etc

Since no media is allowed to go inside Gaza, Hamas pretty much control their own media and narrative. So there is a high possibility that they manufacture a lot of fake news. Then it’s broadcast by Al Jazeera, and then pretty much all the Western media copies it.

Haaretz too?

Hamas are playing the world with the lives of their own and Israel's women, and children. They seem to be a death cult. They know exactly what they are doing in the media. When they returned the Bibas family in pieces after straggling them...there was no deep condemnation. How tight is their grip on the media narrative. It's like big brother. Hamas says and many in the world listens. Free Gaza from Hamas. Free Gazans from Hamas. Listen to the voices of Gazan people NOT Hamas. Read up on how much aid is going into Gaza and then ask....who is taking it? Perhaps the fat terrorists?

Every single post about Gaza you’re there, saying it’s all fake.

I tend not to give too much credence to the comments of people who get their information from GB News and pop-up on every anti-immigrant thread.

Haven't read the full thread so this may have been mentioned already.
These starving children are going to become teenagers and adults at some point.

How will they view Israel and what happened to them during this period?

I think that Israel is helping create a new generation that will want to attack Israel - memories of this will be very long.

And it just takes 1 person with a very long memory to do something awful in the future.

I believe that the whole Israeli tactic is that no one is Gaza lives to adulthood.

But the rest of the world us watching. No one is going to forget this.

Agreed - please can we start sharing the independent/trustworthy sources people are using who are totally pro-Israel and don’t see any wrongdoing / believe that a smear campaign is going on by the British Media. It would be really helpful for me (and maybe others) to understand what is shaping your viewpoint as I’m struggling to see the actions of Israel’s government and army as anything but criminal.

And the humanitarian workers and Palestinians who have smart phones and are documenting what's going on, they're all Hamas? People who have come back after working there and tell their experiences, they're all Hamas operatives? The journalists risking starvation to report on what's going on, they're in cahoots with Hamas? I thought Hamas were in the tunnels feasting on aid.

Well the Al Jazeera Law will be permanent soon, so that stops any pesky foreign media from broadcasting.

It's Israel that has blocked journalists from entering Gaza.

A petition appeal by the Foreign Press Association filed with the Israeli Supreme Court on 19 December 2024 was rejected over “security concerns.”

No foreign media is allowed to go in by the Israel government, either. Both culpable.

So many people want us to be pro-Israel or pro-Hamas. I think both sides are pretty vile in this. Hamas terrorist action is evil and the Israeli response is evil.

Hear, hear.

Precisely why I abhor the leaders of organised religions.

As no one is allowed to go inside Gaza, the Israeli government can control their own media and the narrative (especially as the more powerful side in the war), so there’s a high possibility that they manufacture a lot of fake news, right?

You're not going to find any independent and impartial sources that give a pro Israel viewpoint. The closest I know is https://www.haaretz.com/

Thank you - that’s helpful. If anyone is pro-Israel and can add to my collection of independent sources that support your argument, please share them. @GoldenRosebee and @RosaMundi27 you’ve shared various statements/arguments on here re ‘the truth’ about what’s happening in Gaza. I would really appreciate your trustworthy sources as I am yet to find this information from any trustworthy independent source and I’d be interested to see where you are getting this info from as you as asserting it as fact.
