Men have differing standards of hygiene

I am convinced of it.

I thought it was normal to shower daily, change bedsheets at least once a week, general cleaning around the house but it seems that every single man I have been with does not share the same sentiments.

My DP does not smell - let me say that first and foremost. But he takes a shower once every few days? Which would make me feel incredibly icky.

Bedsheets. He would happily change them weeks and weeks later. I am the one reminding that they need to go im the wash every Sunday.

Laundry. He will happily wear tops or bottoms that he's dropped food down, where as I would need to put in the wash and wear something new. He waits until he has almost 3 loads to fill to wash hos clothes, and I do laundry twice a week.

General cleaning. I thought it was standard to wipe down surfaces after cooking or do some household activities daily, especially cleaning the toilet etc. He can go weeks without doing anything.

Its not even my current DP, others I have dated have kept their houses in a much worse state than mine, or sprtiz on some deodorant rather than get in the shower for 5 mins.

Ive come to the conclusion that most men simply do not have the cleanliness and hygiene standards that women have.

Even the men who live alone that I knew, lived in absolute mess.

Then they're waiting until they can rope in a woman to do it.

I think most of them think it's a women's job. They pretend they can't see dirt and mess but secretly they prefer living in a clean home, they just don't think they're the ones who should have to do it.

My partner is much better around the house than I am.

I agree on a population level, there will always be the odd obsessively hygienic man and the odd scruffy woman but generally speaking I don't think men spend as much time as women cleaning themselves or their home.

I’ve never dated or lived with a man that behaved like that. This includes brothers, flatmates, my father, etc.

In relationship terms, I think you get what you’ll accept. And I wouldn’t be with someone who didn’t have a basic level of hygiene.

My husband is very clean, thankfully (i have dated smelly blokes)

It's not a man thing at all.

Shesellsseashellsnotinmystreet · 25/07/2025 16:06

A penis washed only every few days wouldn't be getting anywhere near me.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/07/2025 16:06

No. My husband is hygienic almost to the point of OCD and I've know women who are very careless of hygiene.

All my exes were as you describe, probably worse. My father was immaculate until his 80s.

I had one ex who was always very particular about his hygiene... Turns out he was gay!

My grandad who is 80 also has very immaculate hygiene and cleanliness.

Maybe its a generational thing.
