DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

Grounds for divorce.

He says it’s light hearted and will ‘upset all the right people’ so between them they found the idea hilarious.

Hopefully it doesn’t get in!

He wants to upset members of racial minorities, women, the disabled etc? Why?

At least point out bare minimum that Farage should be pronounced Faridge as in Garage so it makes no sense anyway

No it's Farage with short FA sound and the rage pronounced to rhyme with barge.

Renamed · 25/07/2025 15:03

Jeeeeezus. Apart from vomit vomit, he’s supporting a racist lying narcissistic grifter, it doesn’t even make sense? What has that man got to do with football? What’s wrong with these men?

Vimtolady · 25/07/2025 15:03

The flag is a giant monument to vaginal dryness as far as I’m concerned. I’d never let a man with those views anywhere near me, not only because Farage is a fascist but because your OH thinks it’s hilarious and likes ‘annoying all the right people’. Strikes me as a weapons-grade bellend.

@Zellycat

Here are some examples of Farage being racist and xenephobic, as you asked.

Praising Enoch Powell’s “Rivers of Blood” speech
Farage named Enoch Powell as one of his political heroes and said the “basic principle” behind Powell’s infamous anti-immigration speech was correct. That speech is widely condemned as one of the most racist in British political history, warning of violent consequences if immigration continued.

Saying he’d be uncomfortable living next to Romanians
In a 2014 interview, Farage said he would feel uncomfortable living next to Romanians. When asked why that would be different from, for example, Germans (like his wife), he replied, “You know the difference.” This was widely condemned as racially stereotyping an entire nationality.

Defending the use of a racial slur about Chinese people (I don’t want to write it here but it’s unfortunately a widely known one)

When a UKIP candidate used the racial slur “ch__ky,” Farage defended it, saying it was a term many British people used casually when going for Chinese food. His comments were condemned for downplaying and normalizing racist language.

Using the “Breaking Point” anti-immigration poster
During the Brexit campaign, Farage unveiled a poster showing a queue of non-white refugees with the slogan “Breaking Point.” The image was criticized as racist and compared to Nazi propaganda, as it implied that non-white immigrants were overwhelming Britain.

ShakespeareInTurmoil · 25/07/2025 15:02

I’d be seriously considering the future of the relationship.

No3392 · 25/07/2025 14:57

So now you know your partner is racist, are you staying with him?

LlynTegid · 25/07/2025 14:53

Under reacting I agree. I can imagine how badly that will go down if he goes to see Burnley play at Brighton, Brentford or Arsenal, for example.

It will not be seen as light hearted. Many football ground stewards are people of colour in my experience.

Lollysoup · 25/07/2025 14:53

Oh. Did you not know this about him?

I do think Farage has become almost mainstream though, and with his popularist policies, and the press determined to "prove" Labour is doing badly is a sting candidate for next PM. I think it will be Terrible and he's made no attempt to explain how he'll pay for anything, but I think it could happen.

Why don't you just get rid when he is out?

Who are the "right people" he wants to upset. Non racists?

I thought the only place Britain’s could display a Union Jack flag without being considered racist was football !

IMO no issue with flag - Brazilians can flag all they like, Ukrainians can flag, Americans can flag, Ireland can flag etc etc…. Tell me why showing national pride with a flag is racism in UK?

Mini cars - have the flag in tail lights
Tourist shops packed with flags on stuff
etc

Who told you Farage was racist? Why? Is he more racist than Starmer? How?

🙄

DiscoBob · 25/07/2025 14:47

What football team does Farage support?!

I feel your pain. I support a football club (because my dear deceased dad would come back down from above and metaphorically smack me if I didn't 🤣) which seems to have certain far right connotations. Cringe.

But waving flags saying you support Nigel Farage is another thing entirely.

Do you want to date a Reform supporter? I personally would rather cement my vagina shut permanently.

Spirallingdownwards · 25/07/2025 14:47

skippy67 · 25/07/2025 13:02

Nigel is very in at the mo. Your DP and his gang will be the envy of many with their tribute flag.

Edited

Ugh no.

He will succeed in marking himself out as a alt right thug

So he's a racist and a coward, because he can't even admit why he's taking the flag.

MayaPinion · 25/07/2025 14:46

Pretty sure my hymen has just regenerated.

Nope, bin him off. Anyone who believes a word that gobshite says needs their head examined. Brexit has taught us that grifter would lie through his teeth for his own gain, and he really doesn’t give a flying fuck through a rolling doughnut for the poor suckers who believed his ‘easy to fact check’ populist bollox.

VioletandDill · 25/07/2025 14:41

That would give me a lot more than the ick and the fact that you're with that type of bloke and just sigh about it reflects on you. 🤷🏼 Did you tell him it's disgusting and that Farage is a racist, slimy, wannabe-Trump piece of shit? Or did you go quiet and laugh when he said he wants to upset people. I would never, ever allow such a god awful thing in my house.

I mean it can't be a surprise can it? Thickos like that don't become that way overnight. There must have been comments.

Lds1 · 25/07/2025 14:39

I can't be bothered going through the whole squad on the website to find out how many aren't English but from the small amount I checked there were 5 so far, I assume he'd like all them gone too?

CarlaLemarchant · 25/07/2025 14:21

I’m a football fan and this is not football culture, it’s racists culture.
I’ll think of you OP if I see that flag in the crowd on Match of the Day.

Not only this, it would be a LTB for me. Seriously.

HollyUpNorth · 25/07/2025 14:04

I’m just finishing on my lunch break. If I can get it when home I will!

Why bother proving this to anyone whether they can spot AI or not bully oh for them.
It's tasteless and crass, I would be dropping this idiot.

DuncinToffee · 25/07/2025 14:34

Turf Moor has the same rules about flags

As does the Hill Dickinson Stadium in case he goes to away matches.

throweay · 25/07/2025 14:28

I would genuinely end the relationship with someone over that.

CurlewKate · 25/07/2025 14:26

It depends on your opinions and politics. Personally, I couldn’t be with someone like that. But presumably you knew how he thought if you’ve been together some time?

HollyUpNorth · 25/07/2025 14:18
