DP’s new football flag has given me the ick!

DP is a big football fan and they have been promoted so he is excited for the new season to start. He goes with a group of 5/6 mates and they always have a flag to take to away matches. To mark their promotion, they’ve ordered a new one.

DP took delivery of it yesterday. It is an England flag with the club badge on it. They have added the text ‘On the charge with Farage’ 😩

Instant ick…am I overreacting!?

Right going down the rabbit hole, Farage aside, I can see why people have become disenfranchised with the current political elite.

It is not racist to say there is an issue with crime, uncontrolled illegal immigration and the erosion of civil liberties.

When the histrionics have subsided and you look at the cold hard facts, I can see why a party that has Habib, Zia, Nigel etc is attracting support not just from ‘far right’ people but ordinary British people. For example, Zia doesn’t exactly fit the bill for a far right thug.

When none of the political elite have the guts to address the elephant in the room, I’m not surprised fringe groups are gaining popularity.

instead of blindly labelling everyone as racist, the facts at hand should be discussed.

I find it’s people like me that are more willing to touch these controversial topics because we are not white.

sad day when someone has to bite their tongue in fear of being labelled racist.

When that little depraved monster, Axel killed little girls at a dance club, the PM spoke on Islamophobia and protecting mosques whilst people like Lucy Connolly faced greater sentences for clumsy reactive tweets than paedophiles raping underaged girls up north.

ill now depart because there’s a certain faction on this thread exhibiting the same sneering elitist attitudes that the political elite have for the average person.

Well he's going to be our next PM so you might as well get used to it now 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

Nope.
No to both: Not going to be our next PM (certainly hope not). Not getting used to it. Ever.

I would pronounce garage to rhyme with Farage not garidge to rhyme with Faridge but I suppose it depends where you're from.

Agree that he's a wanker though!

Posh snobs like me think it’s funny to say Farridge🤣

LlynTegid · 25/07/2025 18:53

Nigel Farage is allegedly a Crystal Palace supporter (well he did go to school in Dulwich) though keener on cricket.

Anyway, the banner should make you reconsider the relationship.

SeaShellsSanctuary1 · 25/07/2025 15:19

Nah not buying that, the guy is a total wanker and Faridge is what he's getting from me

Merryoldgoat · 25/07/2025 17:01

This would genuinely be enough to make me reconsider the relationship.

PandoraSocks · 25/07/2025 17:00

I am not sure this flag exists. Come on @HollyUpNorth let's have a photo please.

PandoraSocks · 25/07/2025 16:59

Rosscameasdoody · 25/07/2025 15:49

Nope. But it’s everything to do with that disillusionment giving Farage an in he wouldn’t otherwise have had.

I am pretty disillusioned with politics. I am not turning to Reform because I don't support racism.

Yeah sorry, it’s a no for me.

PandoraSocks · 25/07/2025 16:49

@anytipswelcome to add to your list Farage has just this week welcomed a Welsh Tory who has defected to Reform. Laura Ann Jones used the racist slur you mention in a chat with her assistant. She also posted stuff about shooting chavs and Ed Milliband.

Lovely people.

I’m a football fan and this is not football culture, it’s racists culture.
I’ll think of you OP if I see that flag in the crowd on Match of the Day.

Me too, and hard agree.

All he'll be doing is outing himself as a twunt.

Clubs like mine, who have had a lot of crap over the years for having black players, would have them removed.

JustSawJohnny · 25/07/2025 16:34

Eeeeeewwwwww!!!!

I'd be packing his bags for him.

I joke. But not really.

CoughCoughLaugh · 25/07/2025 16:31

That would give me the ick too @HollyUpNorth. And if I saw him and his friends at a match, rightly or wrongly, I'd assume they were knuckle dragging rent-a-lout football hooligans looking for a fight and not real supporters, there to enjoy the game.

freddy05 · 25/07/2025 16:26

How you can be a racist and claim to be a Burnley fan I do not know.

Livpool · 25/07/2025 16:25

cardibach · 25/07/2025 15:46

That may or may not be true.
Doesn’t alter the fact that Farage and his gang are racist and anyone supporting them therefore is also or is happy to support racism. Nothing to do with opposing political views or the effectiveness or otherwise of other parties.

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

JimStirlingsPenisTransplant · 25/07/2025 16:18

I am a massive Burnley fan and its fans like your fella that give us all a bad name. I would be mortified if I was you and as a fellow Burnley supporter, I am embarrassed.
I will never forget seeing the plane with a ‘white lives matter’ banner flying over Turf Moor at the height of the Black Lives Matter movement, I was utterly ashamed by it. Wasn’t your fella who paid for that too was it? 🤔

Hubro · 25/07/2025 16:13

Just having a flag with the club badge on it would put me off. I see all these St George’s flags draped in town squares when England play away and it’s not for me.

HollyUpNorth · 25/07/2025 13:49

He says it will be fine to take in as stadiums only check the size of flags rather than the content.

Lots of grounds check. Queueing at Tottenham’s away end they were definitely opening up all flags and removing a lot of them. My team have a Ukrainian player, but no Ukraine flags were allowed. Your husband’s definitely wouldn’t have passed!

gattocattivo · 25/07/2025 16:11

Wow.

Well, I was over in Switzerland for the Euros last week with my huge England flag. The search team at the stadium did ask me what the words meant. So ..... don't be too sure that it couldn't happen over here.

For completeness, my flag says "We're gonna score one more than you", which was deemed to be fine ..... and actually quite truthful thus far.

Roar, Lionesses, ROAR 😍

BlokeHereInPeace · 25/07/2025 16:08

Season ticket holder here (not Burnley, who are a decent club). It's a shit flag. If they try draping it over the fences at the front or whatever it will get removed straight away. Many football fans, who have worked hard to move the game away from the racist shit we endured for so long, will take offence at this flag. Many in the ground will think that he is a knob for having any kind of political flag.

I think he's a knob too, if you were wondering.

RelativelyQuietNow · 25/07/2025 16:08

Awful!

Just wait until he is draping it over your hotel balcony….

cardibach · 25/07/2025 16:06

@Zellycat nobosy is saying he shouldn’t have/fly a flag. Nobody.
What people are objecting to is a political message on the flag - something banned by the FA. In addition they are expressing personal disgust at the politics concerned. Divisive, racist, sexist and on top of that proclaiming uncosted and fantasy ‘policies’.

Mangetouts · 25/07/2025 16:03

Ugh. I'd be leaving him and his flag.
