Who will clean the bathroom?

Person A and person B are having friends round tomorrow and need to clean up. A said to B “we need to do the bathroom today” B said “I thought we would do it tomorrow “ A then reminded B that one friend is arriving tonight so it does need doing today.
A is wfh until 1pm today then plans to go to the gym, walk the dog , do the food shop and cook tea.
B is off today and has looked after the kids and cleaned down stairs this morning. B is doing an activity with the kids this afternoon.

Who will clean the bathroom?

Should it be A the person who mentioned it or should it be B because A mentioned it to B (but didnt ask them to do it)?

Ok so based on how the conversation went. Who would you assume is planning to do the bathroom A or B

I’d say A will clean the bathroom. A took on the mental load of remembering that the bathroom needed cleaning = A is the mum.

Tiedbutchorestodo · 25/07/2025 18:24

A should skip the gym and do it based on the fact B has not had any “me time” and has been busy all day too.

Hatty65 · 25/07/2025 17:53

It's a 5 min job isn't it? Squirty spray, bleach down loo, and flush. Wipe basin and bath.

I couldn't be arsed to argue over this.

XiCi · 25/07/2025 17:49

I think whoever is posting on Mumsnet could have had the bathroom cleaned twice over in the time taken to think about and post this dross

Tiswa · 25/07/2025 17:44

A should do it and forgo gym but is totally expecting B to

TheSoapyFrog · 25/07/2025 16:42

A should skip the gym and do it. B seems to have a busier day.
Agree that when A says "we need to", A means B needs to and has no intention of doing it themselves.

HelenHywater · 25/07/2025 16:35

A should do it - they have a leisurely afternoon, whereas B is doing full on childcare and has already spent 1 1/2 hours cleaning.

A meant for B to do it by saying" we should clean the bathroom" and B ignored that hint.

Ah, the royal "we". If my DH asks me directly to do something I will if I can, but if he tells me "we" should do anything my response is always 'yes - when are you going to do it?'

Exactly this if you want to ask someone to do something just ask!

A&B live together - are they not capable of having a conversation?

stayathomer · 25/07/2025 16:02

Ye both sound like you’ve done adequate stuff in relation to the house so I’d say either who suggested it/ both or none as it’s Friday!!!

SomeOfTheTrouble · 25/07/2025 16:01

All this over cleaning a bloody bathroom.

godmum56 · 25/07/2025 15:55

Toss a freakin coin!

oopsHereItIs · 25/07/2025 14:33

Hmmm both said "we", maybe suggesting the other person should do it passive aggressively... That said -

A could have been proactive in the first place as they remembered.
B could also have done it as part of 'cleaning downstairs'.

As I type this, I'm wondering if A was trying to get B to do it in the first place! And also, how big/filthy is the bathroom?!

BananaCaramel · 25/07/2025 14:24

Both A and B need to get a grip. Cleaning the bathroom is a 15 minute job if you do it regularly enough. Either one of you has plenty of time to do it

LiteralLunatic · 25/07/2025 14:11

Whoever has the time?

I guess it depends how old the kids are and how much looking after them is required, and whether B had time to do more than 1.5 hours cleaning. B probably should have done it if they could.

It’s rather a moot point now though unless you have a time machine.

If it hasn’t been done, A should do it instead of going to the gym. The DC shouldn’t have to miss out on an activity because their parents can’t organise themselves. Plus, if there is housework and childcare to do, there isn’t time for “me time”.

RealEagle · 25/07/2025 14:06

A

Tiswa · 25/07/2025 14:02

A, B has the kids and done cleaning A has free gym time that can be cut back to fit in the bathroom

also A clearly wanted B to do it so B cleaned the downstairs instead

squashyhat · 25/07/2025 13:55

muddyford · 25/07/2025 13:52

A

OneForTheRoadThen · 25/07/2025 13:48

Is A male? Makes no difference but I’m interested.

I think A should do it, B is busy with the kids all day and had already done cleaning. A has a fair amount of leisure time for themselves already.

TesChique · 25/07/2025 13:48

My bathroom takes half an hour max. That is tiles, tray, trap, drain, screen, sink, toilet. Quick vac / mop on floor - window open and done

If neither of you can fit half an hour into the above lists that tells me you're both lazy and reluctant to do it

As per prev poster if we're talking hours to get to visitor standard then you've a bigger problem on your hands than "who has the busier day" because that's grim

GrouachMacbeth · 25/07/2025 13:46

If b has the kids this afternoon why not make it a team task?
