Who will clean the bathroom?

Person A and person B are having friends round tomorrow and need to clean up. A said to B “we need to do the bathroom today” B said “I thought we would do it tomorrow “ A then reminded B that one friend is arriving tonight so it does need doing today.
A is wfh until 1pm today then plans to go to the gym, walk the dog , do the food shop and cook tea.
B is off today and has looked after the kids and cleaned down stairs this morning. B is doing an activity with the kids this afternoon.

Who will clean the bathroom?

Should it be A the person who mentioned it or should it be B because A mentioned it to B (but didnt ask them to do it)?

Whoever’s friends are coming over should do it, sounds like both can fit it into their day

Nogoodusername · 27/07/2025 15:44

A - bathroom instead of the gym

TartanMammy · 27/07/2025 15:03

A should do it and skip the gym. Or B should do it after they get back with the kids. Or B can cook while A cleans if they really don't want to to do it.

I really hate cleaning the bathroom so would take any other job!!

Sharptonguedwoman · 27/07/2025 14:46

Person A can clean, bin off the gym. The rest of the stuff sounds more essential.
Or share A does the bath/shower, B does the loo and handbasin.

Tbh the time it took, to notice it, discuss it and post this it could have been done

Or the bathroom is fucking massive!

More likely dirty (though I'm very thorough) but I also have odd tiles which are difficult to clean.

I use Viakal on most of it. What other products will make it happen in 20 minutes? I need them.

That is really easy in 20'. If it is taking you longer than that, either your bathroom is really dirty to begin with or you are using the wrong products.

Hoover to remove dust (cones in from outside as keep window open)
Clean toilet and wipe down seat, lid, flush, pressure of toilet bowl etc
Clean bath and taps
Clean sink and taps
Clean shower enclosure and shower
Clean shower trap (disgusting job)
Clean outside of shower enclosure and mirror
Wipe down tiles
Wipe down skirting
Clean towel rail/ radiator
Mop floor with bleach solution

If you can do that in 20 minutes, I salute you.

I'm the same - bathroom is worst general cleaning job. If it's one of the easier cleans, what's the worst one? Cleaning the guttering? (Can't say I've ever personally done that). OK, oven isn't a great job but now I've got one of those pyrotechnic ones it's not too bad.

For me its the living room
Always gathers loads of bits and bobs and needs more moving stuff about. Plus we have really heavy cushions on our sofa that I always bend my nails right back on.

Yea no gym that can be cleaning time.

Titasaducksarse · 26/07/2025 08:12

A

intrepidpanda · 26/07/2025 08:10

A. B is busy with the kids A is just "me time"
However, how bad is the bathroom that it needs a designated time slot and allocation.
Even a grotty bathroom takes 15min. Just get it done.

Whoever was bothered enough to start MN thread, otherwise work together

I'm not being funny but cleaning the bathroom is one of the easier cleans of the house??

I’d find the bathroom the worst job in the house personally, I think a lot find the same

A should do it simply because they said 'we' but meant 'you'. It drives me bananas, it's so passive aggressive. When DH does that I usually say, "You're very welcome to..." or "I'm assuming that's the royal 'we', you and God."

Thinking about it, he doesn't do it any more!

Tinycatnoise · 26/07/2025 05:47

I hope A did it. The gym time was the thing that could be sacrificed to clean the bathroom.

Wtafdidido · 26/07/2025 02:33

Life is too short for this sort of bullshit and bickering. You prob could have done e it by now if you were not in mumsnet! Just play it by ear and see who has time. Unless your total dirty pigs it shouldn’t take long. Just get it done. It’s not a competition and it does not matter who feels they’ve done most. You’re supposed to be a team.

OnTheBoardwalk · 26/07/2025 01:52

@Shadowpalkia that sounds really bad. 5 hours to get a clean bathroom with kids in the house sounds really bad. I'm sorry they are your neighbours and your report isn’t being taken seriously

I do have a bit of clutter sometimes that would be the most time spent in my house putting it away

OnTheBoardwalk · 26/07/2025 01:39

changing bedding feck that but I assume one of you has hopefully done that, kitchen bit of a pain, throwing the clutter somewhere hard work

That depends on how often you clean the bathroom. I know someone who if you got in their bathroom for a deep clean to get it guest ready, it coukd easily take 5 hours because it is so bad. And yes, they have kids. SS aren't interested in the state of the home as both parents are professionals and they own their home. Yes they've been reported. I reported them myself. They are my neighbours.

Shadowpalkia · 26/07/2025 01:45

A and B need a rota so their bathroom never gets to the state where 2 people need to potentially do it in order for it to be fit for a guest. It should be in a state at all times where it needs a quick surface clean at best because it is deep cleaned weekly at least.

If that were the case, neither of you would mind spending 15 minutes getting it perfect for guests.

When was the last time the bathroom had a proper clean?

Interesting responses dh was A and im B. Dh always says “we need to…..” when he means can you/would you etc. I’ve talked to him about it on many occasions but he claims he means either of us despite the fact he never does the job. So now I just agree and do the job if I was planning to anyway otherwise the job doesn’t get done.
