I heard about this happening in france and thought 'thank fuck its not happening here'

What will I do on those late nights or mid afternoons before pick up?? Just use my imagination, like a prehistoric cave woman???

😡🙈😡

The UK is launching ‘porn age checks’. This is what will happen

The UK is about to launch some of the strongest checks on pornography in the world.

Not sure I agree with that but Ukraine war content on reddit requires a VPN now, which is scarily similar to living in China and Russia. (And will obviously be used by both those regemes to justify their own censorship.)

I'm sorry, but it's already happening. It's censorship.

Appalonia · 27/07/2025 21:46

This is a good thing, but there's lots of talk of pp already finding a way around it.

Edited

If those circumventing this new form of censorship are people of a legal age then fine.

The problem is that some of those circumventing this are those that it is supposed to stop. So in reality it has done little to nothing and those parents not parenting are still not parenting and now have another layer of protection they can use to say that they are doing nothing wrong.

I agree that children shouldn't ever have access to porn, but the online safety act is going to cause problems for other things being censored and for freedom of speech. It'll affect people discussing problems within the UK and political discussions can be curbed.

TheCheekyCyanHelper · 28/07/2025 08:37

Apparently even sites like Wikipedia are going to be blocked. Pure censorship.

Anything to help stop children from accessing porn on the internet seems like a good idea to me

And heroin kills people, costs millions to treat/address, causes generational social issues, petty crime, organised crime, international crime, fuels wars...I could go on for pages.

Heroin, in comparison to alcohol kills very few people , and costs a lot less to treat, than alcohol abuse.
Porn addiction is much higher than heroin addiction and is having devastating impacts on society, especially young men.

EmeraldShamrock000 · 27/07/2025 16:50

The human trafficking and brutal sexual assaults used against women has changed porn forever.

I listened to a podcast, a young.lady, porn actress, she was having sexually activity with 2 men, the penis in her throat caused her to pass out, they didn't stop filming, just moved the camera shot to dick 2 until she regained conscious, he was still pounding her throat while she was unconscious.

The girls offered cocaine on set developing an addiction, keeping them trapped, then the women who have no choice, the are property of powerful men, stolen from their home.

It's all very disturbing.

And porn is a war between the sexes. It causes distrust between men and women, fuels trafficking of women and children, fucks up people's brains and bodies from addiction problems, destroys sexual intimacy, encourages escalating patterns of dangerous sadistic behaviour, causes rampant disrespect and dehumanisation of women, and is the key factor in the explosive rise in misogyny in recent times.

Both destructive.

you may want to try the opera browser activate the vpn then set it to america region

I'll give it a go, thanks.

Interesting what people are saying about VPNs. I've just tried to use a VPN to access an American site which the UK have banned access to. I can't get onto the site in spite of the VPN. They're not a magic bullet. We're now entering a new censorship phase I would say. I'll try using my phone data instead of the wifi and see if that works.

smallglassbottle · 27/07/2025 11:01

No, blocked. So the internet providers are doing it at source.

This is the beginning of serious censorship where people will be prevented from discussing things that are concerning them. This isn't about pornography or children, that's merely a sideshow.

NellitheNelephant · 25/07/2025 00:22

I think it's fantastic. Well done, Uk.

And me. Porn gives a totally unrealistic view of life. It’s so fake it’s laughable.

But, if you like/need to watch it, then just upload ID 🤷‍♀️

If it does help to keep children away from it, then great. 👍

You might not be able to set one up on your console, but it's easy enough to set on up on your router so all devices use the vpn

Velmy · 27/07/2025 04:21

surelynot16 · 27/07/2025 04:01

@VelmyThats not true. A VPN can be set up on PlayStation 4/5 easily on internet explorer via an ethernet cable.
As for gaming as I already said Australia, china etc get it in advance (earlier) hence why the use VPNs such as sharksurf so the game can download at midnight Aussie time.
Especially when your DC do online gaming with people from all over the globe they get that real FOMO if anyone gets in first.

Internet Explorer? 😂

I'll say it again - consoles do not support VPNs. You cannot set one up on a console.

If you're suggesting that a VPN can be set up via a web browser on a PC or laptop, which is then connected to a console with an Ethernet cable, then it's not set up on the console, is it? It's set up on the browser on another device. No VPN that I'm aware of offers this service for free.

Also, most high demand games have, for years, allowed users to pre-download the software prior to launch to avoid this issue.

So no, most/all under 18s do not have VPNs for this reason.

Heroin has a much larger negative footprint than pornography. Therefore we put much stricter controls on it.

Pornography has led to increased worldwide misogyny.
