So once someone is over what age? 18 it’s ok but 17 isn’t?

I think there is something particularly repulsive about torturing and killing a child who is completely at the mercy of their abuser and has no hope of fighting back. Like when Star Hobson’s killer drove her to a car park and slapped her repeatedly while she was strapped into a car seat. She was one year old. Do I need to go on?

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie You say what you need to say to ensure a better night's sleep.

Here’s a Guardian link, for anyone who thinks if it’s reported in the Daily Mail it cannot possibly be true:

www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jul/24/man-guilty-murder-two-week-old-son-somerset-baby-unit

Nobody is saying it’s untrue.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:15

They can be locked up for life to keep that freedom from them and to ensure they cannot kill or harm again.

@RantzNotBantz the problem is they’re often not locked up for life.

I agree that that is a problem.

But the answer is to lock them up for life, not turn ourselves into killers and execute them.

I feel more than a “flash”. These horrific stories stay with me for years.

Your anger would be better spent on challenging the domestic abuse crisis we have in this country. This POS had a history of domestic abuse, social services were involved and nurses called security a few times because of his intimidating manner yet nothing was done about him. I'm sick to death of abusers thriving in the UK.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:10

For me the line is killing a child. Star Hobson, Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, Sara Sharif, Baby P (to name a few) - their killers are pure evil.

’Evil’ isn’t a measure of someone or a scientific concept. Even is we did have the death penalty, cases like this one would still happen. Take a look at the USA if you are still unsure.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:16

I look at that child’s innocent face and I see my own DC at that age. It’s horrific.

I completely agree with you, OP. Anyone attempting to rationalise why we shouldn't reinstate the death penalty is just as disturbed as those who committed the crimes, to be honest.

The thing that’s disturbing here is your post, tbf.

I won’t read the article and not because it’s in the DM but because I know I will find it distressing and I will feel exceptionally angry about it.
If I saw an article in a few months’ time that said he had been brutally murdered in prison I would feel that karma had been served.

This is not the same as thinking that death penalty should be back in force though.

Yeah that's kind of my stance on it. I would never be pro state sanctioned death penalty, but I also absolutely would not give a flying fuck if this guy gets murdered in prison or by a random member of the public. Sometimes it's just a feeling about what people deserve. And this guy frankly deserves to suffer like that little baby had to.

WhereIsMyJumper · 24/07/2025 23:15

RantzNotBantz · 24/07/2025 23:13

We are a civilised society with resources and values.

I am not prepared for my own values to be dictated by those who are evil, uncivilised, wicked, selfish and who have no regard for human life or quality of life,

If I kill, or allow the state to kill on my behalf as a reaction to their crimes I am allowing their behaviour to dictate my actions.Tneir behaviour will have turned me into a killer.

Killing people is wrong. So wrong that killers do not deserve the privilege of freedom in a civilised society. They can be locked up for life to keep that freedom from them and to ensure they cannot kill or harm again.

And that enables us to keep our dignity and values in a civilised society.

Spot on

@WhereIsMyJumper It's truly not. If you can justify why this thing should continue to exist, it says a great deal about you.

Read my later posts. You are simplifying this too much. Nobody is saying they’re against the death because they feel sorry for this murderer.

Nursingadvice · 24/07/2025 22:53

He brutally murdered his baby??

This is true- but it remains the case that calls to bring back the death penalty are not considering the complexities around such a call.

CalicoPusscat · 24/07/2025 23:11

I agree with this, I sometimes think as a society we have a duty to bear the burden of heinous, unimaginable crimes.

But do feel a flash of rage and sadness at some things I read.

YABU to use anything you read in the Daily Heil as the basis for forming a black and white opinion about a really complex issue.

A society must be better than the worst of its members.

There was a massive failure here. There is no way they should have been allowed near that baby.

ninjahamster · 24/07/2025 23:11

I don’t agree with the death penalty. Lock evil bastards up and let them live a long and lonely life.

WhereIsMyJumper · 24/07/2025 23:11

Ladamesansmerci · 24/07/2025 23:07

OP I'm honestly with you. In cases like this and things such as mass shootings with eye witnesses where we know without a doubt who has done it, it's hard to argue that these people deserve to live.

I'm opposed to the death penalty because there are too many risks with it and the chance of innocent people being harmed is too high, but on a purely moral level, I would not lose sleep over people like this dying 🤷
