Rehabilitation where appropriate and comprehensive risk management where it’s not.

Well, you’re a better person than I am. But why work with the perpetrators and not the victims?

You are embarrassing yourself now.

Never2many · 24/07/2025 23:39

We can’t base punishment on our emotional responses though. Where does that end?

So you feel he should be put to death based ojn the fact he killed a child. But what if others argue that he should have acid poured over him? Petrol and burned alive? Should we consider those?

your wish for the death penalty isn’t based on the wish for justice, it’s based on your desire for pain, revenge, on your feelings if this was your child.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:39

At least there is some justice sometimes - but it still doesn’t come close to what their victims suffered.

What sort of work do you do with such people?

Rehabilitation where appropriate and comprehensive risk management where it’s not.

Yes, I am one of them. Over a decade spent working with all sorts of people, including paedophiles, murderers and rapists is yet to convince me that the DP would be a good thing.

What sort of work do you do with such people?

OP posts:
Robin67 · 24/07/2025 23:36

I said the same thing when I read the article in the Times and the BBC

SummerEve · 24/07/2025 23:36

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:35

We gain revenge, and that feels good. Like justice has actually been done. And it’s not just him - I feel the same about all child killers.

You are confusing justice and retribution.

You must realise that many MNers wouldn't believe the result of last night's football match, they'd be checking with the totally unbiased Grauniad. The same horrific case is reported on other websites so it must be true.

Precisely nobody is saying it didn’t happen.

novanova5 · 24/07/2025 23:35

@RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie sure.

randomchap · 24/07/2025 23:35

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:33

Ok. But in cases like this one it’s inarguably black and white.

Yes, it is. But bringing back the death penalty opens the door to the possibility of innocent people being killed by the state.

JoyDivision79 · 24/07/2025 23:35

Although it's the DM and therefore gutter press, I don't doubt that the gist is correct.

The problem with the death penalty for me is that people with power abuse their power endlessly, they make mistakes continually, sometimes deliberately. How many innocent people would be killed? How many innocent people would be waiting to die c/o the death penalty and they'd regularly fuck that up I imagine. Oopsy, I injected it into the skin by mistake. 🖕

Just like the baby was left with them to be killed despite obvious multiple flags. Seriously. How 🤷

I'd like to hope he'd be ended in prison. However, I believe a significant proportion in prison will be sociopathic, like he has to be to act this way ( or a psychopath).

No easy answers to dealing with these ghouls. They shouldn't pro create, but again, we can't enforce that because it would cross too many lines and they'd abuse and balls that up too if we enabled anyone power over that choice.

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:35

WhereIsMyJumper · 24/07/2025 23:32

Nothing. We gain nothing from keeping him alive. But what do we lose, as a society, if we killed him?

And we can’t just reinstate the death penalty for just this one person.

We gain revenge, and that feels good. Like justice has actually been done. And it’s not just him - I feel the same about all child killers.

Are you saying the Daily Mail report is untrue?

“The premature baby suffered ‘catastrophic injuries’ to his jaw, head, neck and legs at Yeovil District Hospital, Somerset.”

There’s no “complexity” about it.

You must realise that many MNers wouldn't believe the result of last night's football match, they'd be checking with the totally unbiased Grauniad. The same horrific case is reported on other websites so it must be true.

I don’t know. You’re right, I should have a think about that. And perhaps anyone who’s horrified by this child’s death should too. (There may be posters on this thread who already are.)

Yes, I am one of them. Over a decade spent working with all sorts of people, including paedophiles, murderers and rapists is yet to convince me that the DP would be a good thing.

Stefan Kiszko.

WhereIsMyJumper · 24/07/2025 23:32

bluewanda · 24/07/2025 23:28

Based on logical thinking, what do we gain from keeping this person alive? Ok, I know that’s still an emotional response. But it’s just fucking horrific and the world would be a better place if he and others like him weren’t in it.

Nothing. We gain nothing from keeping him alive. But what do we lose, as a society, if we killed him?

I’m struggling to see that right now. Why should the scumbag who murdered an innocent baby get to live when his victim didn’t?

Killing someone is wrong, whoever does it.
