Does anyone else find this sort of thing written on friends social media posts a bit naff? I always roll my eyes. Not trying to be bitchy, but actively going off one old friend due to this and wondering if she was always like this or we’ve just grown apart

I think the older and wiser we become, posts need to be adapted to accordingly, should you wish to be a continual SM participant. Sadly, because of the addictive nature and sometimes the neediness of the people posting, they become addicted to the little hit of dopamine when someone hits ‘like’. Using tag lines is just part of the culture that goes along with it. IRL my cousin, who is well over 50, started using the term ‘rocking up’
in front of younger friends and family. I could have died on the spot for her- so desperate she was to try and be cool.
Attention seeking in anyone older than 20 makes me feel almost embarrassed for that person. It’s so cringe, so uncool and so unnecessary. Same with mothers who can’t educate themselves enough to close down their accounts properly and not post pics of their young DC or worse, babies - the horror of what someone could do with a screenshot and AI these days doesn’t bear thinking about. I think we also just get more easily irritated by patterns of behaviour as as we mature. Irritation is subjective though!

I'm quiet, loud with the right crowd, live simply, love nature, don't have too many goals apart from one lovely fisherman's cottage which isn't that undoable;

I'm self deprecating also;
I think probably a divorced woman who just made it through might need to post this and that is OK. They need some new meaning and living within budget if the finance is less. Doesn't bother me if saw it on my timeline..

Wolfpinkola · 24/07/2025 22:46

LinkedIn has the highest proportion of male users that’s why it’s weird

A friend of mine runs a small business locally. A couple of years ago she got some marketing advice. Suddenly she was always 'super excited' to be 'rolling out' stuff she'd always done. She has lots of shiny new banners and has rebranded under a new name. As far as I can see she has the same clients as she always had - no real expansion, just a lot of generic online 'living the dream' language which makes me sad as she is a lovely woman but sounds increasingly inauthentic every time she opens her mouth.

Ive never heard of stay quiet. What does that mean and why dont people stay quiet then if this is a new buzzword?

I think it’s like’Smash your goals’ (sorry 😅) in private, get on and achieve success 🤷🏻‍♀️whatever that means/looks like 🤮

This modern, social media speak is fucking ugly. Love a bit of social media personally because I'm nosy but I admit I spend a fair amount of time on there looking down my nose at people who use these kind of hideous catchphrases.

I’m not friends with idiots so I never see this.

Linkedin is full of wannabe inspirational leadership influencers. It makes me feel ill reading all the shit people write about themselves. A person could pop into a conference for 10 mins max & they'll go on linkedin spewing all the influencer shite. You could gave shaken someone's hand & suddenly they're your BFF & it's all over linkedin.

Edited

LinkedIn is like looking through the window into some weird cult. I open it up every now and again, wonder what the fuck is wrong with everyone, then promptly close it.

ColinCaterpillarsNo1Fan · 24/07/2025 18:23

All this "this is what true leadership looks like" and "speaking my truth" yuk, makes me want to 🤢

Cattery · 24/07/2025 11:30

It’s just ridiculous sound bites they’ve seen somewhere. Cringing

I hate "smashed it" and "completed it mate", especially when it's adults using it constantly for things their children do. The pressure to keep 'smashing it' must be mad.

I loathe ‘smashed it’ but very much enjoy ‘completed it mate’ because I always read it in the voice of Jay from The Inbetweeners 😁

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 24/07/2025 11:15

It's pathetic and instantly puts me off a person. Much like "inspirational" words on a wall.

SilenceOfTheTimTams · 24/07/2025 10:00

Social media is shite all round really.

Yeah, so little Lee and Madison went trampolining on holiday. They definitely smashed it. Definitely.

It’s just all this ‘Time for me to smash my goals’ followed by ‘Stay quiet’ or ‘Stay humble’ we’ll you’re not are you 😅
I don’t know, maybe it’s just me, I don’t have all these goals to smash or think in this way of speech, if that makes sense!

It's certainly not for me.

But then again, nor is "If that makes sense" tagged onto the end of something really simple that would make sense to a 4 year old.

It's irritating 'meeting speak', just like 'reaching out', 'touching base' and 'low-hanging fruit'.

So not too dissimilar to what you're complaining about.

BodenCardiganNot · 24/07/2025 09:49

'My children, my world.'
No, get them off your Instagram page.

Ironfloor269 · 24/07/2025 09:47

YABU, OP. Maybe they have Greek ancestry.

Dweetfidilove · 24/07/2025 09:43

It's really not for me, but I'm in my 'whatever floats your boat era' 🤷🏾‍♀️.

That's the other thing that's not for me - all the different eras people seem to go through.

Urgh yes. Unfortunately it’s filtering into my workplace too in various teams who are only too ready to brag about things.
