Being told I can’t drink out of certain mugs

I’m staying at my parents house and my dad has said “don’t drink out of my mug that’s the only one I can find that’s like this so you can’t have it drink from your own” so I said “you’re pathetic and this is exactly why you and I will never see eye to eye. Because you behave like a child”

I made my tea in another mug and never bothered speaking to him for the rest of my time here.

Childish. Why act like I’m not his daughter. It’s a mug. He’s just pathetic.

You sound like a rude stroppy pain in the neck. It's a wonder you get invited anywhere.

I don’t get on with him anyway. So a mug wouldn’t change a dynamic that suggests two people who don’t get on. He later walks over to my mother and says “she’s damaged the boot on her car by the way” none of his business because he doesn’t even pay for the car (apart from one insurance payment that I covered when the car came). He’s childish and pathetic.

Who is it who’s childish and pathetic?

Standardpain · 22/07/2025 23:18

Where I've lived -at home with parents, student flat, with bf or H , with my own children we've always had our " own" cups or mugs. Our favourite one . And no one else would use it.
So I don't think its strange your Dad wanting his own special one.
However the antagonism between the two of you over the mug incident seems quite ott.

Do you not get on together OP?

Maddy70 · 22/07/2025 23:18

Are you 13? Ridiculous

CalicoPusscat · 22/07/2025 23:18

I never let anyone drink out of the cup I kept for my father's coffee at my house. That is HIS cup although he's now died.

Can't see a problem with this unless you want to talk about any other problems?

Hercisback1 · 22/07/2025 23:17

My mum has a favourite, my dad has 3 favourite mugs and a favourite wine glass. Dad also has a chair that's his, and mum has a sofa that's hers. Look how we manage to get along as a family....

Trinity69 · 22/07/2025 23:17

I have my favourite mugs, I have my own mug at my parents house that has been there since I moved out 20 years ago. It’s my mug. Nobody drinks out of it apart from me! My mum and dad have their mugs too and so does my brother. You’re being unreasonable and making this about the mug when it’s really about you not liking your dad.

No. I’m not over reacting.

So why have you posted? What’s your AIBU?

And yes, you are over reacting.

BruFord · 22/07/2025 23:16

My Dad also has two favorite mugs.

Hercisback1 · 22/07/2025 23:16

You really are.

Sorry misread, lets hope you don't have a child.

Over reactive much?

No. I’m not over reacting.

There's only one person being childish here

ToKittyornottoKitty · 22/07/2025 23:15

You are being a spoilt brat. Perfectly normal for an adult to have a mug of their own in their own home, you were incredibly rude.

HumanRightsAreHumanRights · 22/07/2025 23:14

You wouldn't be drinking out of any mug in my house if you talked to me that way.

I have favourite mugs, my son has favourite mugs, it's a pretty normal thing.
We don't use each others favourite mugs and we don't give them to guests.

I won’t give them to guests but between families it’s pathetic.

Why did you react so strongly to a man simply wanting to protect his favorite mug?

Childish. Why act like I’m not his daughter. It’s a mug. He’s just pathetic.

I'm surprised you're old enough to have a child with an attitude like that.

It’s his house. His mug. You’re out of order.
However, there’s clearly more going on here…
