Friend 'sobbing in the kitchen' over Ozzy Osborne

I'm not generally a mean spirited person but I just can't take this seriously!

My friend has never been a Black Sabbath fan and I've never heard her mention Ozzy once in the 20 years I've known her. However, her and her sister are apparently 'beside themselves with grief' over his death.

I just don't understand this type of performative grief over A list celebrities that people have never met. It's sad and I get that it kind of marks the end of an era, but the guy lived to a ripe old age in the lap of luxury and was one of the most celebrated rock stars the world has ever known. It's not like a present day star has suddenly been cut down in their prime and will no longer be releasing new albums. They'd already released all their famous stuff before we were born.

She wasn't sobbing in the kitchen when an old mutual workmate died unexpectedly in his late 30s a fortnight ago. Guy wasn't a close friend of ours but we were friendly. Used to go to the pub as a group and he helped us move house, refusing to accept a penny for it. Really nice bloke! We hadn't seen him in close to a decade but both felt sad about it for a few days. But no sobbing in the kitchen!

Latest comment is "he's up there at the bar with gramps". I'm finding it hard not to make an inappropriate joke tbh!

I think it’s fine to celebrate the music and reminisce about the songs but the man constantly cheated on Sharon all throughout their marriage, at one point she took an overdose in a bid to kill herself over his cheating and there were at least two incidents involving him biting the heads of animals, a bird and a dove. He claims both were already dead.

Not a man I would be crying over, but I can understand fans of the music may be.

HM generally focuses on the art of a person, their performance and creativity as well as their impact on the scene. On all the band forums I’ve been on any personal gossip is frowned upon and quickly shut down. So that’s the loss people will be mourning.

76 isn't a 'ripe old age', 96 would be but not 76.

I was inconsolable when Robin Williams died, i had a lot of things happening in my life and it really threw me. YABU.

I think being 3/4 of a century old is a ripe old age especially for someone who did drugs etc.

Just waiting for the god awful watercolour with the great grim reaper of our era Paddington leading him to his final end.

Sometimes it catches you on a hormonal day or it opens some wider grief or memory. It's normal.

Oh christ yes that was a low point.
Grown women screaming and wailing at two young boys who'd just lost their mum.

OP, won't lie the 'up their with gramps' got me 😂

Well, hopefully God has rolled with the times. I can't imagine Ozzy would be very happy if there was no bar in heaven. 🤣

So what was your comment about Ozzy being a vile person? That’s not about someone crying in the kitchen either

Edited

I’m saying why would anyone cry over such a vile individual?

I think that was fairly obvious really, do you have comprehension issues?

This mainly started when Diana died.

I don't understand it but shed a good few tears when the Queen passed & still feel sad when I think about her now

Jumpingthruhoops · 23/07/2025 12:33

If that's how she feels, that's how she feels. You're not obliged to 'understand' it.

I'm not even sure she really 'feels' for him in reality though. If you were told a loved one had died and were then informed it was a mistake you'd be so relieved. I think if somebody told her it'd been misreported and it was actually Bon Jovi that'd died I think she'd just be like "oh...".

Or actually she'd probs be 'sobbing in the kitchen' over Bon Jovi. 🤣

Tell to read about some of his odious and cruel behaviour and that might show her how ridiculous she is being.

Giiiirl!! MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY

I’m shrugging about it’s not a race to the bottom and this is about “grief” for Ozzie not Sharon!

Sharon may be worse, but that’s not who the post is about, it’s about crying in the kitchen about Ozzie.

Agree. Often, it's not just about the person but, more, what impact they had on your childhood etc. Some people will grieve for that.

So did I.

And me as well. Got to see him at the O2 in London, his final tour. Fantastic performance.

Has she ever screamed at the Sistine Chapel ceiling?

I was with you on this, until Diego Jota the Liverpool footballer and his brother died a few weeks ago and I actually cried reading the news.

I have no idea what come over me as I am not even a football fan.

I didn't post anything on social media though

if you’re shrugging about Sharon you might need to do a bit of research.

Must admit I did chuckle earlier when my friend claimed she'd always liked Stairway to Heaven before quickly editing the message. 🤣

Grin Oh, that's a classic.

Meh, depends on the circumstances I guess. I don't disagree with that poster, I will never in my life call Camilla Queen Camilla (and we were told she was to be Queen Consort, not Queen, Charles went back on that). Ever. I will die on that hill. I might not have a street party, but don't forget that some people are truly hated and some will celebrate a person's death. Remember Margaret Thatcher's death had a single released celebrating her death? Now that's cold.

Not technically true. The song was released on an album back in 2001, and because you can get a song in the charts now via streaming without it being physically released as a single, people started streaming it as a statement. The band themselves didn't specifically release it as a single at the time, or promote it as a thing people should do.

thelakeisle · 23/07/2025 12:10

Love old Camilla. Good on 'er. Heard a funny story by Jimmy Carr about being at her home for a charity event.

As a massive heavy metal fan, this has hit the community pretty hard. We are a close community of performers and fans and it’s a lifestyle not a playlist. It was quite strange seeing the MSM scrabbling round last night having no idea about what are iconic photos etc. eventually they tracked down some HM people to say something sensible. Ozzy was a grandfather of our community, we are family, the shock and outpourings of love are very real here..

Although it’s nice that the MSM made such a thing about this important icon, it was rather perplexing given the usual radio silence (literally) when it comes to HM.

Now sadly his memory is going to be latched on by grief vampires like your friend who has probably immediately purchased a black sabbath shirt from somewhere like Next. Saying how she loved that “paranoia” [[sic] song and he was a cultural icon. We have long identified Poseurs in the HM community - likely going to be a lot more over the coming days.

Oh and yes he was a total twat at times, but nowhere near as bad as Sharon.

To a lot of people he's Reality TV Star Ozzy Osbourne, I suppose.

Much like I was sad when Fitz died but everyone else seemed to be mourning Hagrid.
