Friend should have told me her toilet seat was broken?

A bit of an unusual one - I visited my friends house yesterday for a coffee and a catch up which we arranged a week or so ago. After an half an hour or so I said I would pop to use the loo and she casually told me ‘oh - the toilet seat broke the other day so there isn’t one on there’.

As a slightly larger lady, ‘hovering’ as she suggested isn’t exactly straight forward.

Do you think she should have told me about this ahead of time?

Totally valid thread. Those not able to grasp the situation are tramps. She should be ashamed to not have had it fixed for your arrival or at least had the decency to tell you in advance.

Bring back the laugh emoji!

I need it sarcastically again.

(I think - this could just be very deadpan)

MyDeftDuck · 19/07/2025 10:32

FFS……how old are you OP? A broken loo seat doesn’t detract from the use of the toilet…….sit on the pan FGS.

Floatlikeafeather2 · 19/07/2025 10:32

OP, I do hope your friend is reading this so she knows that you think she is despicable, doesn't know how to conduct herself socially and that you think so little of your friendship that you're prepared to start a thread on Mumsnet to shame her and hope that everyone agrees with you how absolutely awful she is. She won't dare to invite you again. Problem solved for everyone.
(By the way, porcelain is much, much easier to keep hygienic than plastic, which inevitably becomes scratched and degraded over time.)

JDM625 · 19/07/2025 10:31

no need to body shame me.

OP- It was YOU that mentioned your size in the first place!!!

You win the weirdest post for today so far!

DollopOfFun · 19/07/2025 10:31

She told you before you went in, and you could presumably see there was no seat, so what's the issue?

No seat is unacceptable if it's in the middle of the night, mainly dark and you're half asleep and don't realise. That missing inch and a half of contact makes you feel like you are descending through a porcelain- cold portal into the depths of hell, bum first.

Can you tell I've lived in a household with three males, with an occasional tendency to leave the seat up in the night?

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/07/2025 10:30

I’ve used motorway service station loos in France where none of them had a seat!

CountFucula · 19/07/2025 10:28

Were you taking a dump? At someone else’s house!?! Now that’s unreasonable ;)

Mrsttcno1 · 19/07/2025 10:28

Time to work on your strength OP, if you can’t hover for a quick wee then you have work to do! Or failing that just sit on the bowl!

PeapodMcgee · 19/07/2025 10:28

Sportsdaywinner · 19/07/2025 10:27

If the rim part was dirty then I can fully understand not wanting to sit on it to be fair

Just as likely to be as dirty as any toilet seat, to be fair?

Sportsdaywinner · 19/07/2025 10:27

Sportsdaywinner · 19/07/2025 10:26

Bloody hell
My toilet seat broke last weekend and not got around to replacing it yet.
We simply sit on the rim part. It's cleaned with antibacterial spray very regularly and the bowl bleached and scrubbed with the brush. We're still alive and nothing bad has happened to us as a result of not currently having a toilet seat. If visitors have an issue with it then thats on them.
You are being ridiculous

AnimalLover24 · 19/07/2025 10:07

Gone at home clearly!

Why didn’t you go at home anyway? Why take a full bladder to your friends house?

Changerj · 19/07/2025 10:22

yabu, but I wouldn’t sit on the bowl. I would hover or squat.

whitewineandsun · 19/07/2025 10:21

Are you about to say that your friend is a minger and has a dirty toilet, so you couldn't possibly have sat on the bowl one time?

Because otherwise, you're overreacting. She told you once it was relevant.

Foreverm0re · 19/07/2025 10:21

This is weird. Get over yourself. Let you know before hand? Maybe if you were royalty, otherwise nope.

5foot5 · 19/07/2025 10:21

I was expecting something a bit more dramatic. From you thread title I was expecting it to be a case where the loo seat wasn't properly fastened on but, as you were not warned, you slid off and landed in a heap on the floor. As it is, total non-event.

And have flowers and rose petals scattered around the entrance and floor of the bathroom with little angelic cherubs fanning you with punkahs while you excise your body waste...

Nannyfannybanny · 19/07/2025 10:20

Oh please bring back the laughing emoji! Presumably the friends house isn't far away. I have a cystocele and it's pretty awkward using public toilets or other peoples, but hey, I get by.

handsdownthebest · 19/07/2025 10:19

AnimalLover24 · 19/07/2025 09:58

Yes I am making efforts thank you, no need to body shame me.

You've body shamed yourself with this ridiculous thread.

doodleschnoodle · 19/07/2025 10:18

Surely you go to the toilet before going somewhere anyway? You either need while you are there or you don’t. Or were you saving up a shit to do at your friend’s house instead of at home? In which case you deserve to have to teeter on the rim.

Ginmonkeyagain · 19/07/2025 10:17

Ha ha yes the OP would hate those capsule public toilets in France that are just a steel pan.

They are probably more hygienic as there are no.seats or lids for germs or other stuff to lurk on.

I hate them as I am always worried I won't get out before the auto cleaning starts 😐

CandyCane457 · 19/07/2025 10:17

So bizzare. If she had text you ahead of time to say the toilet seat was broken, would you not have gone round? Was it really that much of an issue?

Enigma53 · 19/07/2025 10:16

WTAF?? Sit on the bowl!!

cloudyblueglass · 19/07/2025 10:15

So you think people should go about their lives thinking about how small things might affect you? You are being really precious.

tumblingdowntherabbithole · 19/07/2025 10:15

What was stopping you from sitting on the actual porcelain?
