to think that just because you say something about Israel and Gaza does not mean that you should be threatened with arrest under the terrorism act?

She had a sign saying "Free Gaza" and "Israel is committing genocide"

She was threatened with arrest under the terrorism act because a certain group that has been deemed to be a terrorist group also share those same views - and therefore the lady was supporting a terrorist group.

In the encounter, which she filmed, one officer told her: “Mentioning freedom of Gaza, Israel, genocide, all of that all come under proscribed groups, which are terror groups that have been dictated by the government.”

He went on to say that the phrase “Free Gaza” was “supportive of Palestine Action”, adding it was an offence “to express an opinion or belief that is supportive of a proscribed organisation, namely Palestine Action is an offence under section 12(1A) of the Terrorism Act”. The officer told her she had committed that offence.

I can think of many groups who share those same beliefs. Having that belief does not mean you support that group.

A Kent police spokesperson said: “Under the Terrorism Act it is a criminal offence to carry or display items that may arouse reasonable suspicion that an individual is a member or supporter of a proscribed organisation such as Palestine Action.”

Armed police threatened to arrest Kent protester for holding Palestinian flag

Officers accused Laura Murton who also had a sign saying ‘Free Gaza’ of supporting a proscribed organisation

Can you please explain why it's not murder?

It's not targetted; therefore no intent.

ArtfulGoldWriter · 19/07/2025 22:48

Also, there are certain posters that try to derail and get every thread on Gaza deleted in a similar fashion- shut down any debate about Israel’s crimes in Gaza

No, those threads are shut down because "certain posters" resort to personal attacks and hyperbolic language.

It's not deliberate and it's not murder.

Can you please explain why it's not murder?

The proposition was put to me, so I answered it. Don't tell me I'm derailing the thread.

No, you came onto the thread immediately calling it goady. As you do with any thread about Israel - and I assume try to get it deleted to stop people talking about the current starvation and murder of women and kids in Gaza.

36 people were shot yesterday alone by the IDF trying to get food and water. It’s mass slaughter.

Dangermoo · 20/07/2025 08:48

ArtfulGoldWriter · 19/07/2025 22:05

Oh, here again denying the catastrophe in Gaza and derailing yet another thread on Israel’s crimes with arrogance and genocide denial. Lovely.

The proposition was put to me, so I answered it. Don't tell me I'm derailing the thread.

The recent Hague Group conference is pretty damning.
Can you put some empirical evidence on your claims please? From a global perspective?

That doesn't evidence you previous claim. What do you want me to evidence, in particular?

As a wannabe progressive upper middle class white woman who espoused horror when a woman you emulate and admire had a conversation with the police because she was promoting a terrorist organisation, you are already fully aware of the answer to that question.

I am asking what support for a terrorist organisation looks like under Section 12.

I'm not even going to respond to the rest of your statement.

I'm not anti Semitic. I live in Glasgow, in an area with a high Jewish population a s know a lot of Jewish people (my 20s were largely spent in a relationship with a Jewish man) any government that thinks it is acceptable to wipe out an entire population by starving people, men, women and children indiscriminately needs to be stopped.

If someone said "Ireland should be united", should they be arrested if the IRA were a proscribed group - because the IRA believed that.

You seem to think these things never went on? These things went on.

However yes it's also a disgrace and it's a disgrace what's happening in Gaza with the entirely disproportionationate amount of death and destruction of civilians. It's horrific. We need to be allowed to point that out

No

It's about what you can say in public.

Op, this seems to have been a problem since the relatively newly created college of policing invented NCHIs and decided the police should spend a lot of time on non-crimes. Combined with lose interpretation of other laws, it is having a chilling effect on free speech.

No, Stand fast and not lose their nerve. Are you saying Palestinian lives are worth more than Jewish - isn't that what has been parroted for 19 months?

Both Jewish and Palestinian lives have the same value.

If you are not outraged at babies and children being starved and blown to pieces and want it to stop immediately, then you are on the side of a terrorist, surely?

Oh here we go again. Screaming anti semitism at every thread which calls out Israel’s genocide. Trying to shut down debate and discussion. Sneering at any outrage over women and children being bombed and starved.

Your post makes no sense whatsoever.Confused It certainly does not explain your accusation of Antisemetism.Hmm Which has an actual definition and is not nonsensical word salad.

Would your time not be better spent actually DOING something? Helping out in the local soup kitchen, providing some much needed conversation to an isolated pensioner, raising funds for charities tackling homelessness? I honestly can't get my head round why you would spend your free time walking up and down a high street with a homemade banner, protesting about Gaza: what do you hope to achieve, and why this particular cause?

How very bold of you to assume that this is all I do.

Even if it was, it matters. I know, because i have been told by friends in Palastine (in a refugee camp that i help raise money for, for school supplies - sadly not much use now the school has been destroyed but we live in hope) that hearing from us every week about what we have done, who we have met, and what they said, makes them feel remembered.

what exactly do you do to make the world a better place?

What is being done in Gaza has implications for us all. The blatant disregard for international law being shown by Israel, its targetting of hospitals, civilians and civilian infrastructure and the fact that this behaviour is going unpunished has implications for all future conflicts. The fact that they are attempting to undermine institutions like the UN, ICC, and ICJ to escape censure has implications for us all. And maybe the poster just has a heart and is tired of seeing dead babies

It's possible to do both, you know. You and yours always seem to think that people are capable of caring about only one thing at a time.

This is the same argument as the 'well, demonstrating about something that is happening elsewhere in the world is no use, so you might as well not do it'. What it means is 'We don't like it when people highlight the dreadful things we're doing, so please stop so we can get away with it'.

See UK government “we are continuing to sell arms to Israel and we don’t like it when people talk about that”

Also, “let’s make it about Bob Vylan and Kneecap at Glastonbury and create a false sense of outrage about that rather than have anyone highlight the real outrage that is Israel blowing up and starving kids on a daily basis”
