To have screamed at DH about the eyedrops?

Last year DH and I got sore itchy hayfever eyes. I bought some drops. A few days later DH came home and announced that we had been doing the eye drops wrong - Shiela from work had told him that rather than dropping it directly into the eye - you should drop it onto the corner of your nose and let the liquid roll into your eye. I said I disagreed with Shiela and would continue doing it properly my way.

He spent all summer doing it Sheila’s way.

Now yesterday I bought some more drops as we’re struggling again. DH said to me “don’t forget, it’s corner of the nose and let it run in”

I screamed and said that’s stupid! Just drop it into the bloody eye like a normal person!! He continues to say I’m doing it wrong and last night I had to sit and watch him dropping these bloody drops onto his face with his eyes closed!!??

The most annoying bit about it - Sheila has no medical experience. I’m an ex-qualified nurse - yet DH takes Sheila’s word as gospel!

She isn’t. You just drop the bloody things in and blink to distribute it across the eye. I use eyedrops 14 times a day for a medical condition.

Sheila is an idiot, and so is OPs husband.

If I was given the same incorrect, stupid advice over and over again I reckon it would stop if I screamed too.

Edited

I also use multiple times a day and my consultant disgrees with you.

Some men just cannot accept that their wives know stuff.

Screaming is totally normal if you’re that frustrated!

No. It really isn’t.

I’d remain interested in Sheila from work.

Maybe she doesn't scream at him for doing nothing wrong? Sounds preferable.

Namechangerage · 17/07/2025 07:54

Also I’m assuming both your eyes felt better again so just leave him to do it Sheila’s way. “yes dear” pat on head.

FeministUnderTheCatriarchy · 17/07/2025 07:53

DH is an idiot. The eye is so prone to infection, carrying bacteria accross oily dirty skin and into the eye is so illogical it is almost funny.

But you lose any sort of moral high ground when you scream.

Namechangerage · 17/07/2025 07:53

He’s a dick.

But screaming seems a bit intense unless this is the tip of iceberg and you’d be better off leaving?

ToKittyornottoKitty · 17/07/2025 07:52

Well he likes listening to Sheila, you like screaming like a stroppy child. Neither of you sound too smart in this particular situation.

Are you sure it’s corner of the nose? Corner of the eye nearest the nose (tear duct) and the letting it roll is the easiest way to- the centre often blinks quite a lot of it out!

So yes Sheila probably was right!

He knows but he likes the attention and he enjoys knowing he can control your emotional outbursts.

sonoonetoldyoulifewasgonnabethisway · 17/07/2025 07:49

If you pull the lower lid out at the nose side it creates a little well area and you can drop the drops in there without needing to tilt your head - that comes from working in an opticians.

I don't think its the eye drops, I think it's Sheila

yellowdress34 · 17/07/2025 07:46

Not sure about screaming but understand your frustration!

YABU to scream at him regardless.

But Shiela’s way is actually exactly the way I was told by the GP to put my daughters eye drops in a few months ago. It doesn’t roll across miles of skin it is literally just into the corner of the eye and when you open your eye then it goes in. It’s better for kids or squeamish adults who struggle with putting a drop directly in eye.

I agree

I have to use eyedrops several times a day every day for MGD. The way described by Shiela is exactly how my eye consultant showed me how to put drops into the eye. I guess a specialist eye consultant knows more than an ex-nurse and randon NM posters, so I will continue to follow his advice.

That said screaming at somebody for doing something that is causing you no harm is abusive. Leave him to do it correctly Shiela's way.

Duckcake · 17/07/2025 07:43

Sheila's way is sort of how the opticians did it with my 5 year old. Head tipped, back, eye closed, drop onto the inside corner of the eye and open the eye and blink. Way simpler than trying to open the eye and drop in.

I’d remain interested in Sheila from work.

Maybe they’re work friends. I have male work friends but luckily my DH isn’t a very jealous person

PersephoneParlormaid · 17/07/2025 07:42

I drop it into the nose side of my eye, then turn my head outwards so that the fluid coats the whole eye.

LillyPJ · 17/07/2025 07:41

Has he asked Sheila WHY she thinks her method is better? She might have a reason - like not liking the shock of it going straight into her eye or not being good at aiming - but that wouldn't be valid for others. It's daft that he's copying her without questioning it. Sounds like he's enjoying winding OP up.

MaryBerrysFannyHammock · 17/07/2025 07:38

I cannot "just drop" eyedrops "directly into my eye" I find it very difficult to do on my own.

Your DH methods is common and fine.

Your "screaming" at him about it is what's batshit here. If you actually screamed you are very unreasonable.

trailmx · 17/07/2025 07:33

bit of an over-reaction to scream. You must be an annoying person to be around.
What would you do if something really terrifying happened?

Soontobe60 · 17/07/2025 07:31

Sheila isnt completely wrong. Your screaming, however, is.

Dozer · 17/07/2025 07:29

@merrymelody eh? Are you saying screaming at one’s partner over how they do something for their body is normal and fine?

It’s not.

RememberBeKindWithKaren · 17/07/2025 07:29

Have a kit kat, count to ten and calm down..

Doorwayss · 17/07/2025 07:27

Yanbu.
Living with stupid is so tedious.

Truegum2 · 17/07/2025 07:25

The real thread is so obviously about….. Sheila!!

merrymelody · 17/07/2025 07:25

@Dozeroh, give over.
