To have screamed at DH about the eyedrops?

Last year DH and I got sore itchy hayfever eyes. I bought some drops. A few days later DH came home and announced that we had been doing the eye drops wrong - Shiela from work had told him that rather than dropping it directly into the eye - you should drop it onto the corner of your nose and let the liquid roll into your eye. I said I disagreed with Shiela and would continue doing it properly my way.

He spent all summer doing it Sheila’s way.

Now yesterday I bought some more drops as we’re struggling again. DH said to me “don’t forget, it’s corner of the nose and let it run in”

I screamed and said that’s stupid! Just drop it into the bloody eye like a normal person!! He continues to say I’m doing it wrong and last night I had to sit and watch him dropping these bloody drops onto his face with his eyes closed!!??

The most annoying bit about it - Sheila has no medical experience. I’m an ex-qualified nurse - yet DH takes Sheila’s word as gospel!

Your DH is being unreasonable for letting the eyedrops touch his skin before they touch his eye.
You're being unreasonable for screaming, that's just weird...

Whatareyoutalkingaboutnow · 17/07/2025 08:34

Let him, He's a grown man. The most this would get from me is an eye roll.
If he gets an eye infection he can just ask Sheila what to do. 😬

TheyFuckYouUpYourMamAndDad · 17/07/2025 08:33

I think Sheila was describing putting the drops in the corner or the eye ‘closest to the nose’ (maybe your husband did the man thing of not quite listening properly though!)

This is how my optician always puts those orange drops into my eyes…really close to the nose, but straight into my eye (so no ‘rolling down the face collecting bacteria’ involved!!)

Sheila is right…and you need to stop screaming at people!

Flossflower · 17/07/2025 08:31

It is really important that people don’t share eyedrops.

Buy 2 new bottles.

Meandmyguy · 17/07/2025 08:31

Who cares really.

DeliciouslyBaked · 17/07/2025 08:29

Our GP has told me to do it your DH's way on our 4yo, so I think both ways are fine. Not sure its worth screaming at him about it though - why not just agree to disagree?! 😳

AutumnLeaves95 · 17/07/2025 08:28

If you’re genuinely screaming, stop.

BunnyRuddington · 17/07/2025 08:26

And I would stop buying him the eyedrops, just buy done for yourself and let him sort out his own sore eyes.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 17/07/2025 08:26

I think people might be missing that OP might not have screamed at her DH if he didn't keep fucking wanging on about fucking Sheila and her fucking perfect knowledge of how to put fucking eye drops in. Still. Not ideal.

(I'm totalling trying Sheila's technique though. First drop usually goes on my forehead, the second goes on my cheek, and the third goes on my eyelid because by then, I need to blink 😂)

Denimrules · 17/07/2025 08:24

Are you sure it’s corner of the nose? Corner of the eye nearest the nose (tear duct) and the letting it roll is the easiest way to- the centre often blinks quite a lot of it out!

So yes Sheila probably was right!

All I can say is that my late mother had to have drops for glaucoma and I often saw them administered into the corner of the eye in a most professional manner.

I’d remain interested in Sheila from work.

Yes, the correct procedure for the instillation of eye drops is the least of your worries.

Namechangerage · 17/07/2025 07:53

He’s a dick.

But screaming seems a bit intense unless this is the tip of iceberg and you’d be better off leaving?

How is he a dick?! For not doing what he’s told by his wife?! He can put his eye drops in any way he likes!

ItDoesntHaveToBeASnowman · 17/07/2025 08:20

Why is it so important that he does it your way? How does it affect you?

PollyBell · 17/07/2025 08:20

So if he screamed at you would that be ok or abuse?

I would go full petty mode on this. If he asks something say " ask Sheila" and repeat.

" do you know where my shoe is?" " ask Sheila"
" What's for dinner?" " ask Sheila"

I do like that level of petty Grin

Enigma53 · 17/07/2025 08:17

Do what the instructions tell you. You have a nursing background, you know that?

I also use multiple times a day and my consultant disgrees with you.

You mean your consultant disagrees with my consultant. I had to grow back part of my eye. I’m going to stick with the advice given 👍

Sporadica · 17/07/2025 08:17

Why not just each do it your own preferred way, if you can't agree? But also if you both keep getting eye infections, perhaps get medical help? Then your husband can also hear an objective technical explanation of what to do.

BunnyRuddington · 17/07/2025 08:17

Does Sheila usually make really good choices on life, so good that other people take not of what she says and does on most things?

SunnyViper · 17/07/2025 08:16

Screaming is pathetic so you are being unreasonable. Your husband is a dick though.

Morry15 · 17/07/2025 08:15

Why can't he do it his way. And you do it your way

Don't see the need for shouting about it. All the Sheila mentions I would also ignore as he'll stop when he realises you've gone grey rock about her.

I’d remain interested in Sheila from work.

I would too.

MyDeftDuck · 17/07/2025 08:09

I think your beef is the fact that DH does what Sheila says…..ask him if he would put his head in the gas oven if Sheila told him it was good for his skin.

He is being rather stupor in letting the eye drops come into contact with other areas rather than directly administering them into his eyes……but that’s on him.

Do your eye drops your way and let him praise and adore Saint Sheila if he so wishes………probably through a nasty eye infection eventually.

SouthernNights59 · 17/07/2025 08:08

You are unreasonable to have screamed at him, it hardly rates that. He is an adult, let him do it however he wants - and if it doesn't work, then that's his problem.
