Adult son caught in nightmare struggle of addiction and the sledgehammer effect for all concerned.
Tmi to share here but it is a living nightmare for me

So sorry to hear this @Praying4Peace 💔 . DS1 (24) is my biggest worry, he dropped out of Uni in 2nd year, or imploded really.
We've struggled on since then, he got an ADHD diagnosis and has managed to stay in a bar job for 8 months which feels like a minor miracle.
The hardest part has been the continual adjustment of expectations. He is so smart and I used to have real hopes for him, now if he can manage to support himself that will feel like a major achievement.

wordywitch · 16/07/2025 17:23

Operation I’ve been waiting 8 months for is likely to be cancelled as it falls on the first day of the doctors’ strike. And now it’s impossible to know when I can start a new job as I don’t know when it will be rescheduled and when I’ll be recovered.

This is the most depressing thread I've seen.

I am not sure what the point of your post is? The thread title gave it away that it would not be a cheery thread. Sometimes it helps people to write down what they can’t say in public or to friends and family for whatever reason. Don’t be mean. This thread could do without comments like this.

DirtyBird · 16/07/2025 17:22

Need an increase in salary to fix house/buy a car but most likely will not happen in my lifetime as I'm mid 50s and capped out on the salary scale and with no specialized skills.

Feeling a bit lonely and bored as well.

FeelingSickSickSick · 16/07/2025 17:21

Sending lots of love and strength to people.

A special thought for those battling terminal illness.

And my heart breaks for anybody who has lost a child. Whether that’s as a little baby or as an adult. I imagine it is the worst pain possible. I am so so sorry. Xx

Navigating PMDD

Solidarity. PMDD is horrible.
I'm on the waiting list to have my ovaries surgically removed because of it. I had injections to put me into chemical menopause and they made a massive difference to my PMDD symptoms, but then the doctors told me I had to stop having them because one of the side effects is loss of bone density and now I have osteoporosis.

Greenalien1 · 16/07/2025 17:19

Living pay check to pay check and unable to save for my childs future or pay for much needed upgrades in the house or afford anything new for myself. I'm only one car repair or broken appliance away from debt. Currently unable to find a higher paying job that fits within school hours as a single parent. Also grateful to have a stable job and a roof over my head and appreciate i could be in alot worse position.

Garage told us, not point in repairing the car not eccomically viable and if it was theirs, they would get rid of it.

4 years left on the loan

What brand?

Toseland · 16/07/2025 17:15

My house has subsidence. Insurance moved us into temporary accommodation for 12 weeks in March 2024. The house is still not fixed. We are still in temporary accommodation!

My 13 year old nephew unexpectedly died in April, just after his birthday and before our trip to Disney. My children are completely broken especially my 14 year old. They were best friend, raised together like siblings. I genuinely loved that boy like my own. My sister is a single mum and he was her entire world. My entire family is devastated and I can't help anyone. My 6ft 3 son woke me up in a state the other night and I sat on the stairs and held him while he sobbed in my arms. I'm so worried about them all, I wish I could do something.

So sorry and please just know you are doing everything you can. Re-read your post and I hope you will see this for yourself.
Sending love and hugs xx

The fact we won’t have any scope to save/use LISA to save for a house deposit

Wexone · 16/07/2025 17:14

Reading this shows no one really knows what is going on in peoples lives - everyone has struggles
Sending hugs to all
Mine are not too bad but keeping me awake
Supporting husband to change careers, leaving me the main earner.
He has only been able to pay himself the past few months
Work pressuring to do more office days, 2 hour commute each way and had to fight to get one day a week- Cant do driving anymore
Finally moved into what was suppose to be our dream house, but had to get a family loan, business loan and sell everything we had to get it, as couldn't get a mortgage due to husband not working during covid
Wasn't too bad before we moved but since moved in feels like money is just draining out of my account
Finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia after years of different tests and trips to hospital, really struggling with it
Also then told am peri menopause - Every day is a struggle
Wishing for a holiday but wont happen
Suppose to go to mother in laws holiday home but bro in law bullied his way ad took our dates - Cant change my annual leave now either
My poor cat has diagnosed with an illness that cant be cured, only medication and will only live for 2 years max
Someone who i though was my one of my best friends for over 15 years has ignored me and no contact whatsoever since last summer- dunno what i did wrong :(

JohnTheRevelator · 16/07/2025 17:12

My poxy gas meter has packed up. I'm currently waiting for an engineer to come out to fix or replace it. I rely on gas for hot water and cooking so it's an absolute pain having no gas. It says online that someone should be out within 3 hours of contacting them if you have no gas,I've been waiting an hour and a half so far. I'm not holding my breath!

I don’t agree. People have problems, some big some small. I’ve seen some beautiful support from one stranger to another.

Constant financial uncertainty because partner hasn't worked consistently for over two years. Short term contracts, no job security. As a result I'm in a job I would have left by now if he had a proper job because I'm too financially scared to move. Its so wearing on the nerves.

Teenage son (middle child) expelled from school 15m ago, undiagnosed with anything but clearly unwell, kicks off frequently. Under CAMHS but on waiting list for treatment, seeking private help in meantime. We’ve had to hide knives at home as he flies in to a rage and it’s the first thing he goes for. Toddlers in house also. Postnatal depression. I want to walk away from it all and not come back.

That sounds incredibly tough. Have you spoken to a gp about your pnd?

WhenIwasyoungersomuchyounger · 16/07/2025 16:40

@Katemax82 I think it's anxiety, as I don't actually need a wee, just have an overwhelming feeling that I'm going to wet myself.

I know that I'm being ridiculous, but I just can't get a grip on myself.

Reading everyone else's posts does put it into perspective though!

Im sorry to hear it. My daughter has an overactive bladder exacerbated by her anxiety so I sympathise

Whatafustercluck · 16/07/2025 16:47

I'm not even going to contribute. Anything I would say pales into insignificance besides many of the horrendous things others on here are facing.

💐 for everyone who is dealing with awful life and death events right now.

This has made me cry.
I'm truly so, so sorry for you, for your children, for your poor broken boy, and for your sister whose sorrow I can't even begin to imagine.

Have been going blind for a number of years.

Now discovered I'm also going deaf.

Seems a bit unfair.
