I can reallly sympathise, my ex-husband is an alcoholic and still dependant on me as he is unable to function in life. I recently let him stay as he was drinking himself to death.
i can really recommend Al Anon, it’s helped me enormously and it’s a relief to share with people who can really understand what you’re going through.
I wish you both all the best

Who is this to?

A long time ago i was married to a paedophile. He was horrendous from the start i wish i had MN back then but first real concern he started saying things like why does it matter if kids are abused if they don’t know about it. He did something awful to my child and i made sure that he had to leave. I wasn’t strong enough i let him back in and then i was at his mercy for next 15 years as i couldn’t leave. He told everyone i accused him of raping my children. He told my children that when they were 10 or so. I never accused him of that. He did absolutely everything to drive me insane and I lost my mind in the middle of it all and was medicated to the hilt and at the worst time locked up in secure ward. I fought for my sanity and divorced him. That sounds so easy but wasn’t. He remained in my life in a negative way for years. Now i live a peaceful life with no anxieties with a lovely little cat and my 2 amazing children that i adore. I only recently really put it in the past. I told them both what really happened. They are under his influence and always will be but i am at peace.

Sorry, i misread the thread! That was my worst problem. Today i am very happy :-)

@NotOldYet Get a decluttering service in. I have done this and it has made a big difference to my life - expensive, but worth it.
My biggest problem is that I'm getting old and can't do things I used to do, and I've had a couple of falls and worry about the future.

This is so trivial in comparison to many others but I want a cat.

I'm on a very low fixed income and can't give them the life they deserve. It would be selfish to get one to service my needs when I can't service theirs properly. I just want another heartbeat in my home. I want to come home and have someone pleased to see me. That's all.

It's a cat. A bloody cat. I don't need to win the lottery. I'm not asking for the moon on a stick. Just a cat but it's out of reach.

Could you look at fostering when a cat charity provides the fancial support but you provide the love. Hard as not a constant fur kitty but maybe an option for kitty snuggles

I’m in bed and the phone charger is downstairs - if I dont get it the alarm probably won’t go off in the morning as my phone will be dead.

I do have other problems but that is my biggest issue right now 😂

I have less than £5 in my bank account at any given time and a DD to kit out for moving to big school.

Secondary or primary school? Free cycle groups are good, if it's Secondary school, I can post you a nearly new school bag.
Ask St VDP or other charities for help with food parcels if accessible in your area.

I hope pp's feel some relief sharing their worries and thoughts. 💐 Life can be very difficult for many people.

Me too. It’s been a hard thread to read 🥺

Have you looked to see if there’s any school uniform drives locally. We have one where I live where people donate old uniform all year round and then it’s open in the six weeks holiday for family’s to pick out what they need

I have a suspicion that my 16 year old cat is seriously sick, cant afford investigative vet treatment (shes insured but changed policies and dont really understand (year cover or something?) and I need to make a call on whether times up. 😟 it makes me feel permanently sick, she's my best friend

MaryTheTurtle · 16/07/2025 22:27

3 cats and fleas. Think we’re over the worse on day 2 or no fleas when combing cats and I’m so over hoovering every single day,, routine is clean cats, hoover, spray indorex wait. Repeat. 3 weeks of this shite now

Svolvaer · 16/07/2025 22:27

Son addicted to cocaine, trying desperately to stop but as we all know it hard. No job, no money.

Me - marriage breakdown because of son, thought we were getting closer again but he’s backed off with the (probably genuine) excuse of mental health.

No money, house looks like shit. Too depressed to sort it out. Overweight and comfort eating.

Nothing to some people’s problems I know but it’s too much for me.

Catsandcannedbeans · 16/07/2025 22:23

Third pregnancy is a lot harder than the other two. I expected that I would breeze this one but I can’t eat anything, the smell of most things makes me want to throw up, and my back hurts. Baby is fine though so I am extremely grateful for that, actually she’s doing very well… since she is leeching my life force out of me lol.

Other biggest issue is we need a new car, meaning one of us needs to sell our car. He thinks I should sell my pink fiat, but I think he should sell his car. I’ve carried three of his children, and been pregnant for a lot of my 20s… I’m keeping Fifi the Fiat.

Honestly, it could be much worse. I know DH will back down on the car thing, I can already sense he is thinking about it.

My arthritic knees. Recently diagnosed and in constant pain, my life has changed.

MadisonAvenue · 16/07/2025 22:20

Our house has been on the market for five weeks, we had two viewings four weeks ago and nothing since. It’s not just our house, the housing market is stagnant around here and on our estate houses usually sell within a week or two but one has been reduced twice and been on the market since January.
We want to move out of the area and have seen two new build houses which will be available soon and are perfect for what we need. After seeing these anything else would feel like we were making a compromise and settling for second best but if we don’t get an offer on our house soon we’ll likely miss out on these plots and be in that position.

Whistlingformysupper · 16/07/2025 22:19

Wow this thread is a bit of a light bulb to check my privilege. So many are dealing with literally life-changing shite, feel almost ashamed that I've even thought of my minor issues as 'problems' in comparison tbh.

Grateful for mine and my families health, contentment and security right now.

No our lives aren't perfect but we aren't dealing with anything on the scale of what lot of posters are 😢

vegetarianlouise · 16/07/2025 22:18

I run my own business in London that is sucking my soul and energy, I make good money but I don't have a life, time for hobbies or socialising. I feel like a hamster in a wheel and don't know how to get out of it. I'm just a cog in the machine, a slave for capitalism and I'm not happy. I dream of moving to the mediterranean, living off grid, growing my own vegetables and giving my middle finger to technology.

Employer being difficult about flexible working request!
So unnecessary.

cadburyegg · 16/07/2025 22:12

I’ve just found out my exh is going on not one, but TWO holidays over the summer holidays but can’t bring himself to pay even £50 in maintenance for our young children. Every day I wonder how I got it so wrong…

SparklingMetre · 16/07/2025 22:09

DH is away other side of the world for 6 months solid… we’re 3 months in. Two amazing DC but omg without him here everything is down to me, it’s relentless and I’m pretty exhausted. Hats off to all single parents where this is the norm for them-it’s really tough.
