What would you use 'extra' rooms for in your house?

Downstairs the extra room is the TV/cinema room.
Upstairs we have 5 bedrooms but only need 3 for that purpose. One we converted to an upstairs laundry, the other to the study.

Bought the house because it had a garage. That's now a laundry room. Ds's old room is my office / craft space / chill out space and we've done the loft so dh has the equivalent space. It's amazing having my own space (dh hates it because it's so cluttered)

We have an office downstairs.
Upstairs, we have 2 full double spare bedrooms (one of which I do muse about turning into something, but no idea what), and we turned the huge third double room into a giant dressing room for our teenager. I love it, it’s fabulous.

A home gym, definitely. Kids are 18 and 16 now so maybe in a few years time!

Ooh yes, utility room with ironing board up all the time and a TV on the wall. And a big clothes drying rack.

Potting shed. Greenhouse.

I would love a sensory hang out room for my son, or if it was one for me, I would do a home gym set up.

Box room.

Study room so spare room could be craft room too as well as study too. And I'd shove a sofabed in the craft room so I could have lots of guests without people having to camp in the living room.

I would love loads of extra rooms. A library, a music room, a dining room, an office, a sewing room. The dream.

The small bedroom is now my study/ sewing room; we have a spare bedroom; DD has a small home office, a bedroom and a lounge in the loft.

I have a peloton/gym room it’s not posh, also has wardrobes and I’ve put shelves in for bulk buy storage of stuff like toilet roll

We have a playroom, husband and I have separate bedrooms (i co sleep with one of our children and the dog), husband has a study which is also a guest room, and another guest room is where I see clients, also have a dedicated laundry room

Upstairs utility room - which we have done. It is a game changer. A box room for guests, as we have more laundry than guests

for us with 3 teens I would like

Lounge - nice calm grown up space
Lounge - kids hangout, video consoles etc
Study with bookshelves and comfy ready chair as well as computer desks
Kitchen/breakfast room
Dining Room
Hobby room - for crafts and fossils and lego etc
Utility room for all the mess

Actually, my vair vair posh grandfather's enormous ex vicarage house had a laundry room - when I was small, it had a twin tub and ironing board and the most enormous hanging rack (the type of maiden that pulls up to the ceiling). I don't remember them moving to automatic washing machines but I guess they did!

I would go for this with an acre of Lakeland heated airers, and some contraption of my own invention that would be a heated airer inside but would wheel outside for when it's sunny.

Unfortunately though we are past the washable nappy stage, both DCs are fond of outdoor stuff (DD is in Scouts and DS wants to be, DD cycles as a sport and they both go on outings with me), and DD has bouts of constipation and leakage.
So we are still washing central.

Craft room or workshop is my dream.

I will say that we absolutely prioritised a house for living when we last moved and sacrificed what others may consider asessentials to them.

There are four non essential rooms which are used as two offices, a TV room and a games room with pool table and dartboard.

Definitely horses for courses but it's created so much fun and relaxed living in our house.

I know this is truly chavtastic and not very mumsnet but we would put in a bar, pool table, and darts board. Maybe a pinball machine or some old arcade games. We play in a darts and pool league together, so this way we could get in some extra practice and decimate the competition… also host people as well I guess. Kids have enough space to play, if we had extra room we would do something for us, being selfish makes us better parents.

Orangerie is making me expand my ambitions!

Now I’d like a sun room.

I was satisfied but now I want an orangerie too. 🤣

I would love just a laundry room! That's all!

Office, library, guest room, crafting room, and I’d like an orangerie as well.

Am I allowed two in this scenario? 😂 my partner and I talk about this all the time, we’d have a playroom for our children (both under two) so we’d be able to make it age appropriate for both of them as they grow older, and a little games room for us with a dartboard, air hockey table, mini fridge, TV, little sofa etc. So basically a playroom for the actual children and a playroom for the big children 😂
