Page 2 | What’s your Summer Anthem!

LittlleMy · 2025-07-11T20:41:12+00:00

So despite being flattened by the heatwave these last few days, I’ve still being enjoying my music and just got me wondering what everyone’s summer favourites are?! I’ll start, so as a child of the 80s, mine is ‘Cruel Summer’ by Bananarama. So relatable growing up because my parents never took us on holiday ever so the school summer hols always felt torturously long and cruel because all my friends and cousins did get to go away and I was quite sad about that as a kid and this song as well as being so catchy was just perfect for me to hold a pity party to! 😅 And still resonates as an adult when you’re stuck in the office throughout most of the summer! Anyone else?!

TatianaTwinkletoes · 12/07/2025 18:12

I'm loving all these tracks, some real memories embedded in some of them too! My addition would be Heatwave, Martha and the Vandellas. I was brought up in an area where Northern Soul/Motown/Station etc was a part of the lifeblood of the place and when I left school in the long hot summer of 1976 this was played non-stop!
I'd also add
Nathan Jones - the Supremes
Here I go again - Archie Bell and the Drells
Stainsby Girl - Tom Petty

Dodgy lyrics though.

The absolute worst summer song is Summer by Bobby Goldsboro though. It’s about a 17 year old boy who loses his virginity to a 31 year old woman. If you must google the lyrics, have a sick bucket handy.

I’m with you on the Bobby Goldsboro song. It’s so creepy. (Is it called Summer the first time?)

As I'm in my 60s this might seem like an unusual choice but my most favourite summer song is Summertime by DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince (aka Will Smith).

Edited

I’m surprised this didn’t get more mentions! It’s my go to song.

Breathless by The Corrs. The soundtrack of a very foolish summer fling I had in my teens. Amazing.

I've made a 50-strong playlist but don't use Spotify - DH is collating the songs on Amazon as I don't have a membership (prefer my own library). It's also got a couple of outliers that I'm not sure others would necessarily appreciate. Happy to share it though!

(I wanted to put The Macc Lads' 'Blackpool' on it, but since DC might be in the car with me, decided I'd better not)!

Oh yes please, always love a good playlet especially if it contains songs I wouldn't have thought of!

I may not have caught everything. I refused to have Bill Withers, that song goes right through me! See also, Rod Stewart.

Made it random order, starts with the Wimbledon theme tune which seems a nice way to kick it off.

Thank you for your service @BoredZelda! ♥️😎🍹⛱️

Not from my era but Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles is my favourite summer record.

And I agree with others- the Beach Boys just make you think of sunny days.

I hadn't read past page 1 🤣

I'm a 70s child, but - Groovejet.

Or of course - Here Comes The Sun, ❤️
It's alright... Breathe and enjoy.

I remember the summer of 1989, I was mainly listening to The Beach Boys greatest hits and George Michael's Faith album, so anything from those albums make me instantly feel summery. Another one I love is Fleetwood Mac's Albatross, it just puts me in mind of hot summer days and the sun setting and that kind of mellow vibe you get when the air feels kind of heavy and you're just really relaxed.
Back to Life by Soul II Soul always makes me think of summer too- it was on the radio all summer long back in the late 1980s.
I think I'd just like to go back to the 1980s to be honest - summers then felt so much nicer than they do now - that could be my peri-menopausal self getting annoyed with this heat though and looking to the past with rose tinted sunglasses!
