Weird first date ?

So I went on a first date with this man that I’ve been talking to non stop for two weeks. He’s been literally calling me everyday. We had a few words a couple years ago but I ended up not following through with him.

anyways we get on the date, and it was awkward? He was staring at me the whole time but no complements, who was staring in space a lot. He even wore sunglasses, I asked him to take them off which he did but put them back on right after….?

Its just very disappointing because we have such good chemistry over FaceTime and phone calls, just for him to show up and he awkward and distant ? Was he just not attracted or into me ?

Hungover
On coke
Has a roving eye
Is a weirdo

Many reasons op. Please text him and ask and tell us what he says 😂

Chuckling at roving eye.

Im quite sensitive to light and wear sunglasses a lot. I wonder if people think I've got a roving eye!! 😀

This is a really weird thread. 😂

HerNeighbourTotoro · 11/07/2025 08:59

We're you showering him with compliments? Why did you expect compliments on a first date?

As PP have suggested, it sounds like he was high on something.

To give him massive benefit of the doubt, it's possible they were prescription sunglasses and he'd forgotten to bring his normal glasses or lenses because it was hot all day, and he felt embarrassed admitting he couldn't see without them on. Some people are funny about having poor eyesight, especially if teased about it in childhood.

Clarkeroyce · 11/07/2025 06:16

Why was he wearing sun glasses?

My first guess would be hiding the signs of drug use. Maybe I’m just cynical

EBearhug · 11/07/2025 08:54

It happens- I've had more than one date where we get on really well, and then we meet, and there's just no chemistry in person. It's just the way it is - and that's without things like constant unexplained sunglasses wearing.

If you really like him, then maybe try a second date, if he also wants to, but it sounds like you'll be better off trying to find someone else.

He’s 29 I’m 24

Ok the sunglasses at age 24 is forgivable. He probably thought he looked cool.
I wonder if he was shy OP, did he seem a confident person otherwise. He might have been overwhelmed and shy, hence the awkwaedness and sunglasses.
Maybe another date is needed to proerly assess if he is shy or just odd.
I dated some guys jn my 20s who were just a bit odd at the time but they have grown into respectable nice men since, with families. 24 for guys is young, they are still very immature.
My husband didnt mature properly until age 50 when he turned a corner and finally enteres adulthood😂he still makes some weird fashion choices.he has one t shirt that is so out there that I refuse to be seen with him in it.

He hasn’t texted me

Have you texted him?

hennybeans · 11/07/2025 08:49

Just staring at you and inappropriately wearing sunglasses without explaining: drugs. Who knows what kind or why.

KentCatLady · 11/07/2025 08:48

Always trust your gut instincts!

MotherJessAndKittens · 11/07/2025 08:45

TBH he sounds a bit dangerous to me with that odd behaviour. I would put it down to experience and block him.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 11/07/2025 08:43

Was he high?

alcoholnightmare · 11/07/2025 08:43

could they have been prescription sunglasses? My ex wears his constantly, even in house in summer

Fastingandhungry · 11/07/2025 08:40

Maybe he doesn’t fancy you?

Fastingandhungry · 11/07/2025 08:39

Subscription sunglasses ? Although what does it matter?

With respect the ‘chemistry’ you feel through messaging isn’t genuine. Until you meet in person you really have no idea whether there’s anything there and in this case there wasn’t.

Texting for weeks on end creates a false intimacy. Meet up asap and see if there’s a genuine spark.

Edited

Agree with this and think that...

"this man that I’ve been talking to non stop for two weeks. He’s been literally calling me everyday."

...is the weirder thing. Very full on for someone you don't know. The way people act remotely can be so different to how they really are - so much is in our head projected onto them plus they can have a persona especially in messaging - so it's likely to be a disconnect in some way if you go from so full on to sitting opposite each other having to bring that chat. I wouldn't be following up and invest less next time, wait to see who people really are and whether there's a spark.

He could have had a valid reason for wearing sunglasses, but I'd expect him to tell you in that case, especially as you asked him to take them off.

Really?

I wouldn't disclose a medical condition, for exmaple, to someone on a frist date. I'm really photosensitive and wear sunglasses outside on all but the dullest days and even inside on occasion if its really bright because it's painful. I wouldn't feel the need to explain myself but I'd tell someone if they asked me directly.

Well, not go into massive detail! But it would be reasonable to say something by way of explanation, as she specifically asked him to take them off, and he did but then put them straight back on again.

Absentmindedsmile · 11/07/2025 08:36

Just block him and move on.

I’m liking the Bono option but given that he’s married, I think it probably wasn’t Bono.

Roy Orbison?

I don't think either of them could pass for 29 😅

Especially as I'm fairly sure Roy Orbison is dead.

You could just say that you are photosensitive, it's not something to be embarrassed about and it will clear up any speculation. I'd rather people know that than think I'm on drugs or hungover.
