To want to nip this in the bud ( LGBTQ views , child )

I’m after some advice really on how to approach this.

I have always been the type of person to support anyone to be who they are. I’ve never shied away or shielded my children from the world - very much a ‘love is love’ person and always encouraged my children to support those who need it and be inclusive ( in terms of people being bullied , disabilities etc too ) .

My youngest is going into high school ( 11 ) . Over the past few months I’ve noticed a few comments such as “ there are 2 genders “ , “ I don’t support LGBTQ “ . I’ve addressed this in the moment . But recently he found out his new school has an LGBTQ assembly on a monthly basis and he has started saying he doesn’t want to go because “ he doesn’t support it” . I sat down and had a chat with him , I explained to him that it isn’t really his place to choose to not agree with it - it’s not a choice , i explained it as he could say he doesn’t agree with people eating meat as that is a choice he would be making , but someone’s sexuality is their feelings and not a choice.

I am sure comments will allow me to explain more how the conversation went from my side so I won’t drag this post on with that but his comments were unnerving :

  • he believes someone chooses to be gay , they can control it but they choose it
  • we can choose who we fall in love with
  • if a friend of his told him he was gay he would still be friends with them but not as good because they chose to be gay and he doesn’t support it.

I know he is very young and he doesn’t understand and has things to learn. He is the sweetest boy and the way he said these things sounded scripted as though he has heard others say this . I know he is a child and it’s my job that guide him and that’s the advice I’m asking for , how do I address this? I’m not saying I need him to go around advocating I just don’t want these views becoming ingrained and he becomes the reason another student who is struggling, struggles more. I know I may be overreacting but this age and as the years go on is a time that he can be heavily influenced . He’s a quiet, sweet boy and I do believe he could be heavily influenced.

Another concerning thing is that when I asked him where he had heard all this and where it comes from he said his Dad .

No the op’s long op was about her concerns re homophobia not trans. She made that clear and is handling her concerns well. .

Your attempts to erase literally the first point she makes is quite something.

Exactly this. It’s just appalling.

Yes. So she was talking about gender, not sexuality.

That's exactly my point.

I suggest you take this up with the OP, not me. All I'm doing is repeating the words she used.

Your child needed an LGB club though.

Why would you want your child to join a club where he might be told by activist that the reason he’s unhappy is because he was born in the wrong body and is really a girl ‘inside’?

I suggest you look at what happened to Ritchie Herron and reflect on what you are being told.

LGBT clubs are crucial and incredibly valuable. How dare you say said clubs will be run by activists. That is scaremongering at its worst. My son tried to take his own life because he was surrounded by homophobic language and shunned. He is still battling massively with his MH now as a result. He needed a place to meet others like him. So gay kids can’t have lgbt clubs at school because a few on MN are obsessed with trans ideology - that’s pretty disgusting.

Yes - she said that some people feel as though they are born in the wrong body, and that some people disagree with that, and he can make his own mind up.

I imagine that most (all?) people acknowledge that some people feel as though they were born in the wrong body so, again, there is no reason to make this thread about transgender people.

I understand this is personal to you, and I'm sorry about what happened to your neice, but it is still not what the thread is about.

It isn’t always though is it. There are GREY AREAS!!!

There really aren't grey areas.

The kids who got liberty blockers, went first started with this 'treatment', overwhelmingly gay or lesbian and their parents didn't want gay or lesbian kids.

It is homophobic through and through. And as it progressed it picked up many autistic kids, who couldn't understand that it was ok to be gender non conforming. Gender non conforming kids are statistically more likely to grow up gay or lesbian.

There is no 'L or G' when the T is introduced as it turns everything on it's head.

It is a terrible, terrible idea to introduce to confused growing kids.

There's a lot of playing the player, not the ball going on @Sabire9

How about you debate the points instead of trying to smear everyone?

LOL

I'd say the parents of that child were doing a pretty poor job if school assemblies were the most significant and influential factor in the child's life, leading to transitioning.

Any assembly I've ever witnessed has been mind numbingly boring.

Again, this is just deeply offensive.

Jesus Christ wtf is wrong with people? You have no clue at all what this family went through and continue to. How nice for you to just be able to sit back and judge. They are living it.

My cousin's child was heavily influenced by a teacher, who gave her the 'born in the wrong body' narrative, which my cousin's child, very confused about the changes in her body due to puberty, bought into.

The child wanted to go down a medical pathway, which my cousin was deeply reluctant about, but there were threats of going no contact, so she was supportive.

My cousin was then told by medical professionals, 'better a live son than a dead daughter' and that scared my cousin enough to support the decision to take the hormones.

Now that she's detransitioned, there is lots of regret and very complicated emotions from both my cousin and her child. I don't blame my cousin, she was totally let down by professionals who should have known better. It's a genuine tragedy for them all.

And judgement from people like you, who haven't the faintest clue what they've gone through is just the icing on the cake.

BundleBoogie · 10/07/2025 22:29

What do you mean by “being force fed heteronormativity”? Who is being brainwashed?

We all are. It's everywhere. I mean, I'm not offended by it. But it's forced down our throats. Fair enough, as long as other alternatives are also addressed.

My post was mainly addressed to those wingeing about the occasional LGBTQ assembly at school, implying it would warp childrens socialisation.

It's a Sin (brilliant though it is) is absolutely not suitable for an 11-year old! Would you want your 11-year old watching extremely graphic representations of intercourse, whether heterosexual or homosexual?

I missed that, thought he was a teenager.

My child was desperate for an LGBT club they are crucial for gay young people in school. Being able to attend one and having a place to escape the homophobic language he was subjected to may have stopped him trying to take his own life.

Suggesting that inclusion and education are all attempts to harm children is disgusting. My child had/ has a right to inclusion and other homophobic children being educated.

What crime would be committed by expressing that a person thinks being gay is a choice?

Homophobia?!

Have you read the part in the Cass report where she highlights the ‘in joke’ among staff at the Tavistock where the proportion of gay and lesbians kids being referred was so high they said there would be no gay kids left?

’Transing away the gay’ is the phrase coined.

You may not understand the enormity of the issue but your child and his rights are vulnerable to the trans activists.

Stonewall, the TQ+ charity, has actively lobbied government to change the definition of sexual orientation to base it on ‘gender’. If successful, this would render legal protections for your child on the basis of his sexual orientation meaningless. So that homophobic hate crime law you clearly put huge value on would be meaningless. The Legal Feminist or Sex Matters has useful explanations on the technical legal aspects of this.

Even recently, now that the Supreme Court judgement, in a case brought by women who know that biological sex is important and real, benefits your child. If FWS had lost, it would have been detrimental to your child’s rights and protections. The trans activists, to use your words, don’t give a shiny shit about LGB, except when they need to use them to further their own wishes.

I just wish you could understand who the bad guys are here. It’s not me.

And again it’s nothing to do with the thread.Homophobic language which often causes gay children to be driven to suicidal idealisation is what it’s about. You want a trans thread start your own.

heroinechic · 10/07/2025 23:07

Ask your son if he fancies boys or girls.

If he fancies boys (which I’d be surprised if he’d admit due to his ‘beliefs’) then his homophobic comments are likely due to his feelings around his own sexuality.

If he says he fancies girls, ask him if he chooses to do that. As in, he could fancy boys, but decides to fancy girls instead.

I imagine that will help him understand.

And ignore all the trans debate shite on here people just cannot help themselves.

I’m sorry for the harm this has done to your family member. I’m sorry that some people who seem to working under a false impression that they are kind would react so heartlessly about a vulnerable kid. It’s quite astounding.

Yeah and it’s quite astounding re the way gay children like my son are treated by trans posters like yourselves on MN. It’s vile. You simply don’t give a shit in your obsession with lecturing re trans.
