Will this dress suit a plus size bridesmaid?

I’m getting married next summer. Hoping to have that eclectic look for my bridesmaids - different colours but all cohesive. I’ve chosen tones of pink as I think that is romantic.

Im buying the dresses. I have one bridesmaid who is plus size (12). She has an hour glass figure. Will this dress suit her in your opinion?

I know not everyone likes the material but I do, thanks in advance for your input

What a ridiculous take. You can still be friends with someone and have other independent thoughts. They aren’t mutually exclusive. Would the same apply if you thought a friend was skinny?

Size 12 is not plus size. The OP clearly has a negative and warped opinion of her friend.

Size 12 isn't slim. That material is unflattering on most people OP. I wouldn't choose it.

depends how tall you are

if you're 5f1 then 12 isn't slim

if you are 5f11 then 12 is slim

WitchOfSomorrostro · 08/07/2025 11:39

Depends where OP is from. Where I'm from size 12 is absolutely 100% plus size. Sizes 4-6 slim, 8-10 - medium, 12 - plus, 14/16 - fat, bigger than 16 - difficult to find altogether. Regardless of height. And no, it's not Japan/China.

But that dress is a no. Not because of the size, but it just looks cheap and nasty. It's creased to fuck even in promo photos/videos, so in reality, after a days festivities, it will look like a flammable 5quid nightie from aliexpress.

ClairDeLaLune · 08/07/2025 10:15

Oh my God, 12 is not plus size. You are fat shaming your poor bridesmaid. I’m glad you’re not my friend. I hope to God you’re a troll, surely no-one in real life is this vacuous.

Canshehavewaferthinham · 08/07/2025 10:12

I am a size 8 bottom size 12 top (huge shoulders 'cause I lift). It depends fully on her shape. But I have to say I don't think clingy satin flatters anyone-even if someone is very slim and toned, they'd still look better in something else.

Keepingoin · 08/07/2025 10:06

OP you have to accept when you ask for opinions here the posters will generally give an honest opinion.

I'm sorry to say this time I definitely agree with the majority of posters. This is not a flattering look. Those I've seen in dresses like this look awful. Even if they are incredibly thin you can usually see their hip bones sticking out. Slinky nightdress springs to mind rather than stylish flattering bridesmaids dress.

Iceandfire92 · 08/07/2025 10:03

Why not ask your bridesmaids to choose their own if you give them a budget? The dress is cheap-looking and will not flatter a size 12. I would feel self-conscious all day and wouldn't enjoy myself if I was forced to wear that. If they choose their own within a colour scheme, they will pick something they like that flatters them.

But it looks amazing in the second photo. My friend is smaller than that model. Carries weight in an hour glass

If you are so sure, why even ask on here?

PumpkinsAndCoconuts · 08/07/2025 09:53

Are those dresses made with synthethic fabric? they will get really hot and sweaty if they are...

It also looks like something that would show sweat stains easily!! Not great.

The shape is nice imo. Will be really flattering for an hourglass. The fabric could show off every lump, bump, bra line etc. That's something you can usually fit with a slip, shapewear etc. But it really isn't particularly great in summer IMO.

Viviennemary · 08/07/2025 09:50

Shiny fabric is not meant to be flattering to larger sizes. But 12 isn't plus.

Mulledjuice · 08/07/2025 09:41

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:30

My friend has big bum, big booms and defined waist (I say this as a good thing)

Edited

That dress will not be flattering. It's an empire line Bias cut.
Ask your friend what she thinks of it. Why haven't you already done so?

Jamesblonde2 · 08/07/2025 09:41

The dress looks not very forgiving on anyone over a size 8 I would say.

Superhansrantowindsor · 08/07/2025 09:41

The fabric is going to cling to every lump. I think you’d need to be very slim and very toned. Might look nice standing still in the photo but moving around it could look bad. The colour is lovely but I’d go for something more floaty.

XiCi · 08/07/2025 09:41

Are you the type of bride that wants their bridesmaids to look like a sack of shit so that you look better in comparison? If so then crack on with your pink satin sale dresses. If not, you might want to rethink and include your bridesmaids in the decision process.

BangersAndGnash · 08/07/2025 09:40

If you are going ‘eclectic’ ( which is great) allow your bridesmaids to choose the style that suits them and they feel comfortable in.

Ask her, not us.

vyvyanne · 08/07/2025 09:39

Recently on clearance sale. Good reviews

There are very few people this dress would look good on. The people who it looks good on will buy it and give a good review because it suits them. If it didn't then they wouldn't have bought it.

As there are very few people it would look good on they don't sell many and have a lot left to get rid of. Hence the sale price.

XiCi · 08/07/2025 09:37

You need to ask your friend as only she will know what styles of dress suit her. You could have pinged her a photo and had your answer in 10 seconds instead of faffing around on here asking people who have no idea what she looks like. The dresses look cheap. You seem to be implying that they're the same dress but they very clearly are not. Im a size 8-10 but the style of the 2nd dress would look horrid on me (also hourglass).
Why on earth would you ask a bunch of strangers if the dress would suit your friend instead of asking her? Ridiculous. Unless the whole point of the thread is to wind up people with the size 12 comment. Just weird.

WhistlingStraits · 08/07/2025 08:16

I assume OP means US 12, which is a UK 16?

Anyway, that dress would highlight a large belly and arms, a less shiny material would help.

I also thought OP meant a US 12 ( UK 16 ) until she said her bridesmaid is smaller than the size 14 model in the second photo . She is just clearly being ridiculous, regardless of her language skills .

CunningLinguist2 · 08/07/2025 09:29

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:08

Oh apologies. I don’t know why I thought it was. English is my 2nd language

English is also my 2nd language but I know a 12 is not plus size — and the size equivalents in EU and US sizes. I am also a linguist and this is not a language barrier issue. Own up, you goofed. Big whoop, but covering it w “I don’t have English as my first language” is a weak excuse :)

PinkyFlamingo · 08/07/2025 09:26

Genok · 08/07/2025 08:09

English is my second language. Apologies

Aw come on you've got eyes! You can see your friend isn't plus sized!

Growlybear83 · 08/07/2025 09:26

I think the dress is really horrible and unflattering. As others have said a size 12 is NOT a plus size.

CunningLinguist2 · 08/07/2025 09:25

12 is NOT a plus size?!
satin clings like a MF to anyone though and accentuates any and all bumps and cellulite.

so if she’s a smooth voluptuous 12, excellent. If there’s any mummytummy/wobbly nobbly bits (on any of the bridesmaids whatever their size!!), satin WILL show it, especially with lighter colours and especially on the cheaper side of fabrics.

Regularmumandfriend · 08/07/2025 08:23

Hi OP
I would ask for this to be deleted as its triggering so many people. You won't get dress advice as the plus size comment is derailing everyone.

Triggering? 😵‍💫

BogRollBOGOF · 08/07/2025 09:22

It's a nice nightie for the wedding night.

It's a very unforgiving fabric and cut for the vast majority of women with normal womanly lumps, bumps and variations of posture and body composition.
The pastel colour won't add any camoflage to any deviation in the way the fabric drapes.
At size 8-10, I'd look bloody awful because it would highlight my mum-tum, and all my (natural, feminine) soft bits. It's not a size issue, it's a body composition and texture issue.

The model looks good because she's a model, has an aspirational body shape and a team of experts making her look optimal for a small number of photos. It's their job to make the dress look good for 15 minutes.
That's very different to wearing a dress all day as a bridesmaid.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 08/07/2025 09:22

Does this shade of lipstick suit my skin tone OP?
