Is Pride exempt from public indecency rules?

DD (aged 14) went into London today with a friend she is staying with. I can only assume friend’s parents didn’t realise it was pride weekend and we don’t live anywhere near London so had no idea.

Aside from the fact that it was a complete ballache getting back out because tube stations were closed, DD said she was shocked at some of the things she saw in terms of arses on display with men just wearing “thongs”.

How is it OK to have such sexualised stuff going on in view of young kids?

Why shouldn't kids be able to attend Pride?

You missed the point.

Don't bring your kids to pride then!!! It's very bloody easy.

Why shouldn't kids be able to attend Pride?

I'm just refuting the argument that it's something new

But it's also obvious there is an undercurrent of homophobia even if people are acting like there isn't

Ah there we go. Resorting to the age old ‘you’re homophobic’ thing when your argument falls apart. It doesn’t wash anymore. Try harder.

Charming.

You said I know, but quite frankly, all you have to do is use your eyeballs 😅 when I pointed out that Pride events generally promote themselves as being family friendly and gs r no 18+ earnings on their website.

Yes I’ve been to a Pride event.

I have no idea why I have to read some ‘well written texts’ on the history of Pride in order to point out that public nudity and fetish is nit ‘family friendly’.

Anyone who doesn't understand what the Pride march is London is like and wants to go with their kids,

Are you suggesting that despite their claims, we should assume that Pride is full of men displaying their sexual fetishes and is therefore utterly unsuitable for children? I

According to Pride history, gay men worked hard to dispel any links with paedophiles and inappropriate behaviour around children as a myth though??

I'm not claiming or suggesting anything. You, by contrast, are saying a whole lot more than anyone asked for 🙄

Once again, people can and should do their own research. You obviously do not think that London Pride is suitable for kids. I don't either, particularly. I do think Pride elsewhere can be very family-friendly. Not all Pride events are the same. You seem to be struggling with understanding that part.

I'm also really not sure why you seem to be under the impression that I personally have any influence on what the Pride organisers say about their events?! I didn't design the website. I also don't really care what it says. I'm aware of what I might see there, just as I'm aware of what I might experience at carnival or at a concert or a rave. If you take offence at their claims, you're welcome to email them directly. I'm sure they would just LOVE to hear from you 😊

Also, your assumptions are just getting bolder and bolder; I've never seen public nudity at Pride?! A naked butt cheek does not consitute full on nudity. And for some reason you seem desperate to suggest Pride is connected to paedo's and so on. I may as well take the opportunity to say I disagree strongly and find it super distasteful and weird that you keep suggesting such things.

Sexualised behaviour in public is not appropriate. Sex is great, but it belongs in private, not in public spaces in the middle of the day.

Wearing a thong isn't sexualised behaviour

Sadly, they are the special caste and apparently exempt from the normal rules.

Two tier system as I said up thread.

More and more people now belong to the "special group". And it's straight white women behind them with their placards. It's all very clever really. And it's worked.

Horseebooks · 05/07/2025 22:55

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 21:57

So you think it's acceptable for arses to be out at an event that's public and not age censored?

Yup

Sorry you felt forced to share that story 😥. What a horrible experience for you. I hope life is treating you well.

People like that poster will only ever defend the loudest coolest cause. Everyone else becomes cannon fodder.

Let's hope we don't break out into a war. That poster will be cowering behind all her chap wearing blue haired non binaries whilst they'll be running over her to get away and suit themselves.

What the actual....so gay people are cowards now as well as everything else they've been accused of on this thread.?!? I despair.

Making the argument that pride has always been about fetishes isn’t quite the flex you think it is.

To be fair to what I said, your daughter could have walked out of Oxford st to far worse if some serious protest was going on, which it does from time to time in cities. I tend to not go on any big London match days either as can be intimidating with drunk football hooligans

What do you mean "to be fair to what I said"? I'm not sure that even makes sense, but OP wasn't being "unfair" to what you said.

There was no need to come back to defend/repeat yourself. You had your say and insulted the OP - just leave it there.

Straight men like arses too

Doesn't make them sexual

I mean if they are used in a sexual act, then yes, yes, it does.

UsingAMansNameInAWomensWorld · 05/07/2025 22:52

DaniO2 · 05/07/2025 22:49

I think a gay man might disagree with you there... 😅

I think some people are either incredibly naive, or just want to be seen as totally cool and liberal and forget about safeguarding as long as no one can accuse them of being a bigot.

You are so beyond deluded! Strawberry chocolate hasn’t the habit of using itself to dominate and abuse other people. As a child abuse survivor who was abused by a man using his sexual fetishes on me I don’t want to have to avoid looking and constantly anxious about seeing these perverts displaying their kinks to anyone around them. How about they keep it to themselves in their private homes or at some kink party where everyone has consented to see it. The world doesn’t revolve around men’s penises and arses and their right to shove them wherever they want! Oh wait it’s seems it does with people like you around to defend them!

Sorry you felt forced to share that story 😥. What a horrible experience for you. I hope life is treating you well.

It's about men dressing how they want to dress....

That’s what women and children need to do. Look the other way, walk the other way. You’re a homophobe if you challenge this behaviour.

Another ridiculous statement that has nothing to do with this discussion.

And what hours that? In our local city it's not uncommon to be seeing it at 7pm on freshers night or other student celebrations. Parents don't have to voluntarily take their children to pride either.

But why shouldn't parents be able to take their children to Pride? It's a day-time event. Gay under-18s and children of same-sex parents should be just as welcome there as adults.

BundleBoogie · 05/07/2025 22:49

No way, these people should be in jail, if they’re not already.

What are your thoughts about all the men who go around bare chested as soon as the sun comes out.

JaneEyre40 · 05/07/2025 22:49

SquishedMallow · 05/07/2025 22:47

So how far does your acceptance go exactly? Do you have any boundaries for minority groups ? Because you seem to have a lot for the majority? Or does your tolerance and acceptance only work one way ?

Gay people are the majority group? Since when?

You sound just like the woman who said that the 9 yr old girl should ‘just look away’ when confronted by the erect penis of a trans identifying male (who turned out to be a convicted sex offender) in the naked women’s sauna.

That’s what women and children need to do. Look the other way, walk the other way. You’re a homophobe if you challenge this behaviour.

Yes. That exactly the same thing. Christ. You're disgusting to even suggest that.
