Michael Jackson was a paedophile. Why does the local school choose one of his songs for the kids to perform to?

I also have a friend whose little boy has learnt all his moves and she puts MJ on for him to dance to.

I don’t understand, hearing his music makes me feel sick.

I work in dance, every dance teacher I know uses mj songs. They're great songs!

Dummydimmer · 05/07/2025 09:23

MJ was probably a Paedophile. However, his music wasn't. Quite a few classical musicians were Nazis/ Imperialists. Where do you draw the line. ? I still like MJ's music and classical composers who I wouldn't want to spend time with.Back to MJ, I think it's beyond a doubt that the family was dysfunctional and abusive in many ways. You can't judge the music solely by what the person was like "in real life" . E.G. I loved Prince for ages then realised that he had serious flaws. Still wrote some great songs.

@Ponoka7 What have the Who done?

Pete Townshend is a pedophile. He was convicted for having child abuse images and was on the child sex register for five years.
I forgot to put Elvis on the list. If anyone reads about the Beatles they were specifically told to not go near underage girls because it was making other artists less popular. We still listen to Jerry Lee Lewis.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 05/07/2025 08:37

He was never convicted of anything legally speaking. Not my cup of tea personally.

Neither was Jimmy Saville…

x2boys · 05/07/2025 09:23

I watched both the Neverland,Documentaries and beleive them
But even if he wsent a paedophile he was certainly guilty of emotional abuse
He built those young boys up to beleive they were everything to him than dumped then when they hit puberty.

@Ponoka7 What have the Who done?

I assume the other pp is referring to Pete Townshend's caution, from Operation Ore, whereby he'd accessed child abuse images as "research" into proving British banks profited from porn sites according to wiki/the citation relates to a Telegraph interview. He had nothing on his computer.
Have not read the case files so not sure how credible the defence was but he accepted the caution nonetheless and was on the sex offenders' list for five years (he admitted his credit card was used for a dodgy site).

Bridport · 05/07/2025 09:22

For the children the music and dancing is just harmless fun.
By the time they're old enough to understand about Michael Jackson they'll either have forgotten it or will just have happy memories of dancing with their friends. Jackson will just be a long dead old man to them.

MyCyanReader · 05/07/2025 09:20

P0d · 05/07/2025 08:39

But that child will grow up and realise mummy was making him dance to paedo songs

Well I used to watch Rolf Harris cartoon club...

Separate the music and the person. He was a very talented musician. He was also a weirdo.

Take beef at the parents who LET their kids stay overnight in his bed!

What was the other documentary called? Xx

Ah one of them was called ‘Chase the Truth’. I thought it was interesting so good to watch things on balance.

Looks like it was on Amazon and You Tube…

I like documentaries and found it interesting….given that MJ has died I was looking for some balance based on facts so enjoyed it.

Again though, where do you draw the line? Just musicians? Or artists? Or authors? Or actors? How far back do we go? I'm not entirely sure of the morality of a lot of the Tudors, do we rip their portraits off the walls and burn them? Or does 'it happened a long time ago' somehow mean that it doesn't count?

It's ridiculous. There is almost nobody in the public eye who hasn't done at least one questionable thing in their entire past. I think a degree of separation is necessary, otherwise we are left with nothing and no history either.

NoNameMum · 05/07/2025 09:20

I mean where do we draw the line? It’s an established fact that Elvis dated Priscilla when she was 14 and he was 24.

I sold my MJ albums and never listen to him now. And I LOVED his music. It was watching that documentary that did it for me.

I would probably not be irate about it, but I think you have a point!

The documentary had the opposite impact on me, after watching it I believed mj was innocent

PuppiesProzacProsecco · 05/07/2025 09:16

@PansyPotter84 the allegations didn't stand up to scrutiny?! Have you watched those documentaries where those poor men bare their souls about the abuse that went on in Michael Jackson's bed?

I was a mega-fan - literally worshipped Michael Jackson. No-one with a degree of intelligence and common sense can watch the Finding Neverland stuff and walk away with anything but a complete conviction that the man was a paedophile.

I agree with the OP that it's not appropriate for a school to use his music in a performance. I personally can't derive any pleasure from listening to him any more but I get that some people can separate the art from the artist.

VintageKefir · 05/07/2025 09:16

I think Savill case is bit different. Tbh I am surprised BBC is still standing... State and public funded peado fun is quite something...

Taking the songs on their own, what exactly is it about them that makes them paedophile?

They contain a hidden wavelength which targets and brainwashes children. Every “OWWW” and “HEE-HEEE” is an activation signal.

StMarie4me · 05/07/2025 09:15

Never proven. Many, including Macauley Kulkin, have refuted the claims.
Personally I think he was a childlike asexual. His childhood was decimated by his parents. He did t have one. They made money from him and his siblings.
The parents of the children who used to go to Neverland wanted to gain from the situation. He just wanted friends.
As I say, never proven. And he was an incredible musician.

x2boys · 05/07/2025 09:14

P0d · 05/07/2025 08:57

But nobody doubts that he slept in bed with young boys. If your anyone else did that would you think it was innocent?
I find it so weird that people can’t see it.
why are Saville and Glitter demonised but MJ is still some God. He wasn’t convicted because he was one of the richest and most famous people alive.

Quite if Kev down the road had sleepovers euth young boys and called it beautiful and natural i imagine the reaction would be very different.

chachahide · 05/07/2025 09:14

I don’t like his music particularly but he was never actually convicted was he?

He was definitely a strange chap, but was anything ever actually proven?

ALPS100 · 05/07/2025 09:14

YANBU

I feel the same about Jerry Lee Lewis - married his 13 year old cousin. Sick.

Hiding in plain sight

bookworm1982 · 05/07/2025 09:14

Itallcomesdowntothis · 05/07/2025 08:51

Quite a powerful and horrific documentary. I then watched another documentary from an independant journalist who wanted to investigate all claims through evidence and facts. A lot of the Neverland story was debunked and it was shocking.

He was never convicted of anything however we feel about it so we can’t prevent his music being played without that (in my humble opinion). R Kelly on the other hand? Completely different story.

What was the other documentary called? Xx

Ponoka7 · 05/07/2025 09:10

No need, the glitter band own it. Which is why it's still in the film 'four Christmases ' and the Joker.
OP the list is endless, Bowie, the Stones, the Who, then there's the art work and statues. Then there's our royals, which if we can ignore the hypocrisy of them, we can ignore anything.

@Ponoka7 What have the Who done?

MinnieCauldwell · 05/07/2025 09:11

The artist Eric Gill still has his work exhibited at the BBC, he had sex with his sister, daughters and family dog.
Oscar Wild had sex with young teenage boys
Picasso was a domestic abuser as was John Lennon

Abusers sadly are just everywhere,

Hairyfairy01 · 05/07/2025 09:11

Totally agree with you OP. I also turn off the radio if one of his songs come on and was horrified that my daughters dance show performed one of his songs, (thankfully not my daughters class).

WhereOnEarthIsMyPlanet · 05/07/2025 09:11

SeaDragon17 · 05/07/2025 09:11

Interesting though that you sold your albums. Why not destroy them if you felt so strongly that there was an ethical reason not to listen?

Don’t be silly, she objects to listening to songs by a paedo but not to making some cash from them!

x2boys · 05/07/2025 09:11

Sassybooklover · 05/07/2025 08:50

MJ was never convicted of a crime involving children in a Court. This is why his music is still played on the radio/TV/online. It doesn't matter that there were glaring red flags, or suspicion, he still wasn't convicted. Whereas 70's artist Gary Glitter has been convicted and been in prison (currently still is, I believe) and therefore his music is no longer played on the radio/TV.

Neither was Jimmy Saville but I think we can all agree he was a prolific abuser of children and vulnerable adults.
